These bands make virtually no money for like two years. They are paying for basically everything. All of their money comes from merch from shows, basically. Back in the day when I played with In Other Words ( Tragic Hero ) And These Hearts ( Victory ) They told us how they basically were living day to day and were making all of their money off of merch sales from the shows. They have just enough money to get some food, maybe a single from the dollar menu at Mcdonald's.
