I was a swimmer in high school and one of my teammates over the summer before junior year dove into a lake and hit a sandbar. He was paralyzed from the neck down. The doctors said that he would never walk again, but little by little he kept strong and powered through his recovery. On the last meet of the year, he had been training to swim 50 yards. I kid you not, everyone at that pool shed a tear when we saw him do the impossible. Today, he is back to normal and is not paralyzed (not sure about side effects), but the recovery that was made is truly remarkable. Anyone can overcome anything with enough mental strength and determination.
