Good question - I'd start by saying that early exploration/agriculture would have been stunted for centuries, several conquerors wouldn't have been able to leave their mark on history (Gengis Khan, Alexander the Great, Hernan Cortez), areas such as Mongolia would have a lessened significance as they do today, and - assuming a different animal couldn't come along and fill the gap - in many ways we probably wouldn't be as advanced as we are now without a horse to give us a technological leg up.

Its good to see someone promoting actual good behavior around animals. No attempt to touch the baby, nothing momma could interpret as a threat. Touching baby shouldn’t be an issue with momma. If it is, momma isn’t a suitable mother/brood mare, or she doesn’t trust you. Getting foals used to things in life are crucial to their future lives- we’ve had horses in that weren’t touched for years after birth, and not only were they dangerous, but a lot of them were distrusting of people and aggressive asf. Plus, a foal needing to be led around is vital: if an emergency happens where it has to trailer to a vet clinic and it doesn’t know how to walk respectfully next to people or into the trailer, it’s not going to the vet clinic, and lots of vets only do house calls for colic and moderate punctures and wounds.

@@jennahmercado924Often the Mare (mother) will get very protective of their foal, and just like any mother they want to bond with their baby, this mare obviously feels very secure with her owner that she didn’t push the foal behind her and get her body between her foal and her human, also the mare nuzzling her owner’s hand with her mouth is a sign of a deep bond she has with her owner. To gain a horse’s trust is a really beautiful thing.

You should see the unacceptable and awful way the guy at Random Okie Farm treated the baby Zonkey there named Peppermint when it was born! (Half Zebra, half Donkey.) Within an hour or so of birth he hugged it to him tight as it struggled to escape, and things only got worse from there! A day and a half later he forced a halter on, then yanked and yarded on it by rope as Peppermint again fought to escape! He has traumatized the poor thing severely, and taught it to hate being caught and haltered. There will be nothing but trauma, cruelty, and force from then on. He talked about Pressure and Release, and thinks he understands it, but he obviously does not. Nevermind the fact that's far too soon to train him in any way! And the first step is always establishing trust! But he destroyed all trust entirely. So I wrote to his wife, who is very sweet and caring, but a little intimidated or brainwashed by him. I knew it was too late for that Zonkey, but I begged her to please diplomatically get him to learn how to use P and R properly. She didn't reply, but I didn't think she would. They haven't shown any more of the poor baby's so called training since then. Poor little Peppermint was only 2 and 1/2 days old when the guy nearly pulled his newborn head right off! I cried and cried. So now they are hiding his mistreatment of Peppermint. I believe the wife did try to reason with him, because she truly loves the animals all so much, but some men are just arrogant bullies, and I doubt she can control or even reason with him. He's a know it all who won't listen to her. Poor little Zonkey. Peppermint is so cute with his partial markings! I realize halter and lead training does need to be done fairly early. But yanking on his neck so hard like that, and so early? No. That kind of emotional trauma is so cruel! And counterproductive! I hope they do go to a zebra trainer as she mentioned in 1 of the 3 videos of Peppermint. And I hope somehow she is able to reduce his mistreatment of the poor little guy. 😭😢😭😢😭

Love how she approaches slowly and makes sure the mama is comfortable letting her near her baby. Protective mamas can cause injury. Not only is this bad for the person who is injured but also the horse. Good job being safe! :)
