absolutely! even a small building can easily swallow a platoon, depending on the amount of floors, doors and hallways. add to that the close-off ring (did a maybe 100mx20m house during a recent NATO exercise as team lead/point-man (since first to spot the contact is the one that takes verbal control), 3 contacts, assisting the police. from SIERRA (recon) platoon arriving and starting to feed info to HQ, to BRAVO and CHARLIE platoons surrounding the entire building while staying hidden, which took maybe 3 hours since we had a LOT of area to cover. after we got the order to breach, despite having issues with an armed non-compliant outside the building, meaning ALPHA-4 went in with 1/3 of combat strength occupied. (good thing A-2 trailed them). since the rest of A-4 and A-2 cuffed the remaining two suspects (noncompliant, ofc), checked them (preliminary) and after my team came back to reinforce, searched the entire building for drugs/explosives/weapons/anything potentially dangerous, all in under 20 minutes to ENDEX, constant CQB function until every room was cleared of course, shitloads of hallways, trash, negative corner-feds with tiny ante-chambers all the way too... bleh. i felt like i did a shitload of mistakes, it felt so much longer than it actually was (done this kinda stuff a LOT, just never in conjunction with the police) but all we got was praise from all sides, which is rare as FUCK in Finland. maybe if we'd had time to train more MOUT/urban search training, since our squad makeups keep shuffling about every exercise, so you kinda have to find the tempo of your fireteam all over again and likely hold extra training sessions so everyone understands that if we stack up then we stack up, no matter if we move slowly - nobody runs off, the fireteam is a singular unit when stacked, and when doing dynamic entry that 0.5 seconds between 1 and 2 entering the room can be fatal for both. slow is smooth, smooth is fast. might have been able to cut it down to 17 if i would have just told my team to do a takedown on the suspect instead of trying to talk him into complying, but my team didn't know the hand signals I used because they served elsewhere so bleh. also had to wait on A-3 (that would do full searches on the detainees) for too long, if they'd been in place we could have had it in 15. wishful thinking but yeah you're absolutely right, buildings just suck in people - it was only because of good intel from the police and recon platoon that we could move so confidently, since if we'd had 5 or 6 contacts we would have needed all of ALPHA platoon in there just to get overwhelming force and proper tempo/keep them reacting. putting it shortly, this one insignificant building with 3 suspects tied up a company-sized force + a supporting recon element. 130 soldiers, at best. redundancy, redundancy.

Folks like you are a toxin in the warrior community. It's fine to have favorite instructors and to fall back on tried and true techniques, but men have been warring for millennia without the benefit of OTG.

This is the part where I ask you to Google occam’s razor. We are narrowly comparing the applications of two different methodologies, not what iffing 47 things to death haha. There are pros and cons to each of these methodologies that go far beyond just what we talk about in the video. You mentioned someone being left alone to do all the work from the exterior of the threshold, that holds zero water when you do force on force. You will always be in a one on one gunfight unless everything goes just perfectly and everyone gets in the room with a good angle on the target before the target starts shooting at one individual person. For example pushing the threat vs running the rabbit in a corner fed room (check out our IG for more videos on that). When panning, other members of the stack could do what is called a double pan, which again is not covered in this video because of The scope of the video being limited.

You also talked about what if it’s a no shoot situation like an innocent person. Would you rather run into the room with that person and have to deal with them inside? Or would you rather call them out to an area you already dominate where you have a large amount of manpower and room to work? Again, the reason none of that was spoken about is because there are too many external factors to try to set up an even comparison. Which is again, why I brought up keeping the comparisons very clean. I know your brain went on hyperdrive when you watched this video but there’s a reason that we didn’t get into the weeds on a bunch of that stuff because it’s not really relevant to the comparison, and causes confusion when it’s not discussed in its own context

@@oriontraininggroupllc2782 I'm not trying to what if you to death, I'm just interested in the approach because I do see a use for it. Our Dept rolled out a solo response program after Parkland, this seems like an excellent idea in those circumstances. If you're alone, clear as much as possible before you commit to the room if there's a pressing reason to go in. As to the 1v1 we'll agree to disagree or we can discuss in greater detail elsewhere. Yeah there's a split second where if you come in and there's Mr. Bad Guy in the deep corner you're clearing it's 🎶 just just the two of us 🎵 but half a second later my number 2 and 4 will have an angle and be joining in, but that's more of the "dynamic" approach I'm more familiar with that stuff so that's why I'm curious how you guys handle it if there's a kid sitting with bad guy on the couch when your guy pans across, that sort of thing You mentioned challenging and calling the non badguys out into your space, I'm with you there, solid tactic. How do you go about getting your other guys in play with something like the couch scenario? Would you have the guy panning just muzzle up/down and let the rest of the stack enter in a dynamic fashion so the corners are clear and you can get more guys involved? Treat it more like a barricaded suspect or what? Thats the part I'm kinda scratching my chin over 🤔

​@@LawnMM What's the context of it? Either way, you have the guy pieing hold them and make them come to you / do whatever you want them to do. He's ready to take the shot should he be forced to. Should they be towards the centre of the room you can have both guys hold them from the door.

@@rJonas_ Makes sense, just curious brother. Don't take it as criticism, it's curiosity. Haven't seen it done that way before but I can see some applications for it. Just curious how you roll the other guys into play when you encounter a cluster cause that's what I try to train for. It's great when it's simple but GD if it ever works out that way ya know?

If there is a committed foe in the room, he will see you first. Walls like that are not protection. Speed, surprise, and violence of action is how you defeat a real threat. Pieing doors and stacking outside a room thinking about risk... is called 'surviving to death'

You can. DD deployment is just that. That does not decide an entry. You might halt entry and pan due to several reasons.

This video is about the distinct differences between two specific types of clearance. You certainly can combine and flow between, and we advocate for that. This video was just defining and showing some other ideas that folks argue about.

The idea is to distract and disrupt. If you know it’s coming and have been exposed to it a lot, it’s neither of those things to you.

Whichever has more dead space. Not all rooms are exactly even even if it’s a center fed room. You can take in account what type of furniture or items are in the room that can provide concealment for an enemy fighter. These go off percentages and in making entry, you weigh your percentages on which side you think there’s more likely to be a threat. That’s how you decide when it’s almost identical. First man is always right even if he’s not. You don’t have all the time in the world so this is where experience and quick decision making come into play.

Military doesn’t use the flood method mate. Panning and piecing the threshold and cleansing before entering has been commonplace for a long time.

@@PeterNichtlustig0815I’ve always taught my joes to never rush to death/defeat. We try to at least square up before entering threshold or panning across.

You're really only going to use dynamic entry during hostage rescue situations or if there is an active shooter to prevent the shooter from executing hostages and killing civilians.
