Great video, August! For people like me - old and wishing I could go back for round two at a career - the gear and rigging narratives are highly valuable. You, Traver, Buckin and many others inspire me to ignore my freakin age and start career number two anyway! You guys are having fun doing what you love to do! Be safe. You were made for this!

I know exactly what you mean!

Hi Wayne, I know it's been a while since you submitted your comment to August. But I am facing the age issue too. So I wonder what your second career is? In my case, I put on my latest business card "Small and Medium Trees". This brought in a surprising number of fruit and landscape trees. And it's easier to talk with people about what they want in pruning this way too. I was a widower for a very long time. But am remarried now. Mrs New Wife will not let me climb. However, after talking like a Dutch Uncle I bought a long extension ladder. It gets me pretty well up there and I'm not climbing. And the old tree surgeons used ladders a lot. So I don't care what some young bucks say. So, anyway. That is my aporoach. What was/is yours?

Hey August, don't take it personally about referring to the viewers as "youtube". I watch a lot of video's on the tube. The best one's are the ones that are connecting to each person. You are a great guy and I think the world of you and your product. You explain what's happening to detail so even someone like me can understand it. Thank you for your hard work and honest narration. Hard to find people that convey that to people. Please don't be offended by the request for not wanted to be referenced as 'youtube" even though, as a group we are. Thank you again. All you guys on your team are good shooters. Thank You!!

August, I am liking your tree cutting videos. I own my own landscaping company and I mainly deal with mowing, prop clean up etc. Soft landscaping. I do do tree trimming and tree removal but the tree has to been in an open area and not to big. I have taken a chainsaw class and a tree climbing class from the local community college. I know how to and have climbed 70ft up a tree and loved it!!! Customers get scared when I am up that high when I am just sitting in my saddle chillin. lol I like watching you make your cuts when you are up in a tree. I like how when you make the wedge cuts you sometimes get creative. You might not always make a text book wedge cut but you do what you think will work best in the tree. I have learned from your videos some very handy cutting techniques. I like how you were dropping limbs by making a back cut a little way out so that the branch would fall down on itself then you cut the branch completely off so that it would fall straight down without hitting the house. I will be using that type of cut on a tree job that I have. And as you know there is nothing more rewarding than when you are able to drop the entire tree and watching it fall exactly were you want it to fall. I had a customer who was scared when I was cutting a 40ft tree down in his back yard. I told him that he saw me fell the other 2 trees and they landed perfectly. I used a stick and marked off the area and location I was going to fell the tree. I was taught how to use a stick to estimate were you are going to fell a tree and were it is going to land. The customer finally let in and let me cut the tree down. I was going to try to top the tree but when I got up about 20-30 ft my spikes were going into the trunk way to easy and without much effort. I climbed down and said that the trunk was not safe to climb because my spikes were going into the tree. The customer wasn't sure about this but I said it is my call and I wasn't go to climb the tree because it wasn't safe. When I felled the tree I had a 15ft opening to land the tree. It was between the garage and the garden. When the tree fell I was off only 6" from the rock that I used to mark my estimate. The customer was happy. When we started to clean up the tree the bark was falling off by just touching it so it was a good thing that I did not climb that . The trunk was rotten. Thanks for the videos.

You guys are hilarious! Love the attitude and "back and forth" while you casually wreck out the tree, really good stuff. .....and the neighbor coming over and asking you to look at a tree, had that happen more than a few times, love it. Keep yourselves safe August and Damien. Randy

Been binge watching and I have to say this was the most fun to watch. Relaxed, humorous, just 2 guys doing what they are good at and having fun. I’m just a guy with my own sawmill and lots of woods here in WI trying to learn better ways to take down snagged oaks and other hardwoods. Thanks and be safe.

Thank you for taking the time to teach us new tricks. I’m a few years into tree work(still new to rigging), but when I see most the things you guys do, I love know I have so very much to learn. Keep up the great work.

ive always used the same old school cheapy snaps for light rigging, same reasons, i just use a different knot to attatch mine to my line...lol... good to see that im doing some things right in life. i may never be as skilled, or as knowledgable, but i often see you and i approach things the same , which makes me feel kinda like i was made for some of this...hahaha! i loved the face cut no back cut, though ive been cutting for 20+ years, cant say ive ever intentionally done something like that, awesome stuff! thank you for all the great videos!

HEY AUGUST THESE TYPE OF VIDS ARE AWESOME FOR ANYONE ..THOSE WHO ARE BEGINNING OR FOR US W EXPERIENCE WE MAY NOT HAVE CONSIDERED SNAPS..I'LL USE SLINGS FOR KNOTLESS RIGGING BUT SNAPS COULD BE EVEN QUICKER..BONUS FOOTAGE OF HOW TREE WORK CAN BE FUN BETWEEN "LITTLE BOSS" AND STAFF.

August Hunicke hay buddy what you think about your lanyard also being your main line. I been doing this for years and its always a conversation piece. But in lots circumstances I am only lanyard in. If I am blocking trees down I double wrap one lanyard and single wraps second in case of tree shake. Not saying I will change how I do it. 23 years never a accident or injury other than limb kick backs and such.

1st off...I want to say...You guys REALLY KNOW your stuff when it comes to falling trees..!! Like PERFECT..!! I'm sure there is some accidents, but from watching quite a few of your vids, You guys are VERY SAFETY MINDED..!! And that is ABSOLUTELY #1 on anything... 2nd off...When you guys were talking about the body language persay..with the folding of the bid, and Damien mentioned winking at the wife on the way out, you didn't say anything about...What if THE WIFE WINKS at you on the way out?? :-)

quick question for you buddy the monkey Beaver climbing belt I recently purchased I've never climbed with a belt that has buckles that clip together like the i s c buckle you trust them buckles a hundred percent I always climb with a belt that had like a regular belt buckle on it and should you ever change them buckles or are they good for the life of the belt
@AugustHunicke6 жыл бұрын
b r they are awesome. ISC is state of the art quality, that’s why I wanted them. To put the belt on over rain gear much like a seat saddle (if you use an adjustable bridge.)

I suggest you try the enForcer on the pulley sling to see the real weight a cut can generate. The dynamic elongation of the rope can change those stats I think. Cheers ! Nice vid as always!

No criticism, but there is always a safer better way. Always rig from above your tie in. Just one of those things like loading the spine of the biener not the gate. If your rig point blows out you're still tied to something. Love the videos. It's nice to watch professionals. Keep up the great work! And not only is that electric saw a wuss, it's ugly and the ergonomics are brutal. Stay safe and climb high!!

Great video as always! Dedicated to putting out great content for us to enjoy. Question for you, when you were natural crotch rigging at 2 points would that decrease the dynamic loading of the enforcer? Making some of the actual weights higher, as opposed to the negative rigging forces on the single spar through the xrings? Thank you for any explanation on this
@AugustHunicke6 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. The scale measures what is happening to it.
@corychase40116 жыл бұрын
August Hunicke, I never gave it a thought about that aspect! Thank you. Sometimes my mind tends to over think situations.
@AugustHunicke6 жыл бұрын
Cory Chase if we were going through a block up there.… Whatever the enforcer feels would be nearly double felt by the spar. Ariel friction above diminishes overall load on the spar.
@stephen11335 жыл бұрын
Have you done any videos where you test dynamic vs static force/weight of pieces in negative rigging scenarios? I have never seen good testing data on that. Just bomb a piece out, get the number, then weigh it hanging there.
