Great that Joan had the presence of mind & professionalism to rise to the occasion & be gracious. Someone inadvertently handed the award to her first. Forsythe took offense & then "refused" to speak after Joan treated him with respect & professionalism. Linda & Diahann just stood there - and stood there. The show would have been cancelled if not for what Joan Collins brought to it.

Have just seen Dame Joan on the Graham Norton chat show talking about this moment. Apparently when they all went up on stage the girl handed the award to Joan, she looked over to John to come and make the speech but he wouldn’t as he’d already taken offence that they had handed the award to Joan. She said a few words, being the professional she was and then tried again to get Forsythe to speak but he refused and said “you’ve already said enough”… After this awards show he sulked for months and wouldn’t speak to Dame Joan for nearly a year! Jealous Prima Donna springs to mind.

That was awkward AF. Joan called on John to step up. When he didn’t. She spoke. Then she even tried to “ego stroke” him by calling him the big boss. But, he still acted like a big baby. Any woman over 50 has experienced this with more than one man. Lol. He was ridiculous.

THE PROBLEM MAY BE SOMETHING ELSE. Joan was taught that every man was at her beck and call, Forshyte wasn't like that. Maybe he really did not like her, and this aroused in her aggression resulting from the rejection of her as a woman? Then out of frustration she would say after he died that he was a misogynist and stuff like that.

She also said "Linda?" and Linda Evans wavered far too long for live television. Joan Collins simply didn't want the entire cast to look stupid on live television so she took the lead when the other two didn't. And show me a press release and/or video of the 1984 Emmys and then I'll believe you.

I can't say the others did the same thing, especially the way they treated her. One word comes to mind: JEALOUSY. While the main characters were originally to be BLAKE AND KRYSTAL lets face facts, the show flopped until JOAN showed up and saved it! The show really was held together by ALEXIS! I met JOAN and she is a lovely, professional actress.

Because of what Joan said on Graham Norton? Judging from this clip Joan's recollection of it on Graham Norton is not entirely accurate. Her words on Norton, (John) 'She said enough.' What he actually said was, 'No, you said it.' Joan then recounts how John 'walked off' but he doesn't do that at all in this clip. Another slightly off detail in the Norton interview: Joan mentions John's age as being 62 at one point during her run of Dynasty. John turned 62 in January 1980 and before Dynasty. John would've been 63 when Joan came aboard as Alexis.

@@rah1721 I think I’m calling for a bit of proportion here. Your initial input ‘out of control ego, pitiful..’ is way too strong. If, as you say, the ‘producers’ wanted JF to AGAIN pick up the award (not entirely sure of your source on that), I would say that by 1986, THAT is completely out of line, and probably done to keep massaging the ego of a vain, temperamental, not to mention paranoid, Diva (and we are NOT talking Collins). To draw a direct comparison, when Dallas began in 1978 the dramatic arc and main characters were well and truly written to be, Bobby Ewing and Pamela Barnes (a modern day Romeo and Juliet marriage disapproved of by both families). Three years later the undeniable, unquestionable star of Dallas was Larry Hagman/ JR Ewing and the rest of the cast, as well as the producers, both knew it and accepted it gladly because he guaranteed the show’s longevity (nicer people all round than the bitchy Dynasty cast who were at each others throats behind the scenes). That Collins was still accepted to stand graciously by as an ‘also ran’ when that dull non entity insisted on hogging the limelight is ridiculous. Any show with a cast like that regularly share speeches, she spoke for no more than 20 seconds and there was NOTHING to stop him saying ‘Thank you well said Joan and here’s my few words’ but oh no he threw the hissy fit from hell and blanked her for a year. Small, small man.

She asked for a 5,000$ increase per episode which wasn’t that much considering the total costs of the show. Aaron Spellling wanted to limit these costs because ratings were not as good as the years before and didn’t want the whole cast doing the same. So he went to the press and they announced “Oxenberg: Terminated”. That’s how she found out she was fired. And the replaced her by an American unknown actress who was fired mid season. Then the Amanda character was completely erased from the story and Blake and Alexis only talked about their 3 children (instead of 4). Catherine Oxenberg talked about it a few years later and she was not bitter about it. Just detached and amused about how the show business works.

Damn!!! Sexism is still alive and well reading these comments! Dame Joan saved the show from being cancelled and John still got higher pay and in his contract it stated he got to be larger and front and center in all Dynasty photos!🏳️‍🌈❤️🏳️‍🌈❤️🏳️‍🌈 Sorry but what in the Hell would Dynasty have been without Alexis!!!

They are sabotaging Joan's moment, and trying to belittle her, but the only people on that stage that look like FOOLS, is them, because they know Joan is the REAL star, especially Linda Evans, who delivers the most limp half hearted Thankyou. cringe.

@Robert A. Lofgren Jr. Joan asked Linda to join her at the desk, Linda shrugged her shoulders and said no, only then to just lean forward pathetically and make a halfhearted thankyou, she didn't step up to the mike as you said, she ignorantly just pushed her head forward, this is rude and obnoxious to the people there and to the audience, but she did it to offend Joan most importantly. you can think what you like, but i have my own opinion, thankyou.

Forsythe was a bit of a jerk. He was upset because the awards girl handed it to Joan first, so she gave the acceptance instead. Maybe if he weren't the last to get on stage and walked a little faster.

Oh please. Judging from this clip Joan's recollection of it on Graham Norton is not entirely accurate. Her words on Norton, (John) 'She said enough.' What he actually said was, 'No, you said it.' Joan then recounts how John 'walked off' but he doesn't do that at all here.

Joan asked John to come forward but he didn't, I heard he was annoyed with Joan and didn't speak to her for some period after. If this is true then it is really sad, Joan was really professionnal and let's face it Dynasty would not have been a success without her.

@Robert A. Lofgren Jr. -- Well, they did an interview TOGETHER on Larry King (you can search on YT here) to promote the production where Joan explicitly said that she suggested Linda right in front of Linda. So unless she was telling a bald lie to Larry King (whom she is friendly and fond of)...

@Robert A. Lofgren Jr. - I honestly don't think anything you said helps anything. You said nothing that disproves the "fact" that Collins suggested Evans for "Legends", other than saying that she was lying. No producers on record said anything contrary. I've seen several interviews with Evans who repeatedly said there were not any nasty feuds between them during "Dynasty" and they were friends before the show and since. Doesn't mean that they're best of friends nor there never were conflicts while working together. And if Joan was so nasty like what the OP implied, then why would Linda return and do a show with Joan? Evans is not a type of celebrity who was ever desperate for acting work. The press has the tendency to make mountains out of moles and sometimes that's the deliberate intention from the shows' PR as well. I'm not here to defend Joan if she was ever a diva or not. I don't really know and really care.

@Robert A. Lofgren Jr. - Thanks. I just saw it. Honestly, she didn't denigrate Linda at all. She said they are opposites and even used the word "compatriots" to describe their relationship. And the clip that Piers used to show what Evans said was kind of taken out of context. The press always wanted to pit them (like they do with many co-stars who are females) against each other to sell tabloids. It's sexist. But there's a far cry between "not the best of friends" and "arch enemies." And, again, if they were enemies back in Dynasty days, then why would they reunite and do a show years later?

Joan spoke about this while narrating her own docu "This is Joan Collins" and she did share John barely spoke to her for the remainder of the season.....However "Prima Donna" does not spring to mind" with his behavior as there are sides to every story n we've only ever heard Joan's side. It was clear Joan/John had issues...During an interview (that's here on youtube) when Joan's name was mentioned...John insinuated there was no separation between Joan n Alexis.....Forsythe believed unequivocally that he was the star of Dynasty (He had clauses in his contract that stipulated where he would be position in any/all promo shots and that he would always be the highest paid cast member, 5% season 1-5/7.5% seasons 6-9) Joan received a significant increase at the start of S5 but it did not matter to John b/c of his clause.

The producers made it known that john was to accept the award. If you watch, joan intentionally hurried up first. Joan had to be in a pissing contest with him. Joan was also known to actually be Alexis, all her life. A lot didnt get along with her on the set. With john, it was reported the opposite with him. She clashed with him, because of who she's always been. Read up on her, especially from a son. She's always been a complete narcissist.
