I owned a 348 for a while and I wish I never sold it. One of the most entertaining cars I've ever driven and it was a total crowd pleaser too. My fiance made me choose between it and a Lotus Esprit, and I chose to sell the 348 because the Esprit was more rare and was in much better condition than the Ferrari, which was going to need it's engine-out soon. I still have the Lotus but I really wish I had kept both, especially now that I have room for them -- and now that 348 values are climbing very strongly.

I've been curious how other stuff holds up after seeing 267whp from my at-the-time 232,000 mile NSX (with just an exhaust). 348s are somewhat more maligned than they should be and the TB in particular I find a handsome car as a "baby Testarossa", even if the 355 refined the shape into arguable perfection.

Why does the chart say you’re revving to almost 15,000RPM? Lol Also that’s an interesting Dip of about 15HP and 15Ft lbs at the same time mid pull.
@vincevassallo53854 жыл бұрын
Good eye. Every 348 has this mid range drop. We try to minimize this with chip and other mods. The popular belief is that this is where the crossover intake opens to give greater intake airflow. The engine operates as 2 4 - cylinder engines joined at the crank. At around 4500 rpm, the cross flow valve opens. It's controversial in the 348 community. The 355 has individual throttle bodies so this isn't an issue for it. The 348 is the first Ferrari engine to use this design so it probably took the engineers some time to figure out the quirks. The 360 engine returned to this design of separate banks each with its own throttle body.
@crxkid164 жыл бұрын
Vince Vassallo very interesting. I’m used to seeing dips like this in the Honda community with bad tunes or no tunes in conjunction with less than ideal VTEC engagement RPM. by changing the rpm operation of the intake flap couldn’t you lessen that dip? Or better yet if you could use the 355 ITB set that would fix it as well
@vincevassallo53854 жыл бұрын
@@crxkid16 that is a very interesting comment because a few people have done that swap. But it is not easily done because the 348 and 355 engines are very different above the block. It is also insanely expensive, not to mention violates smog rules in many states. Programming is difficult for two reasons: Ferrari code is proprietary and so far modding it involves trade offs. So far the best fix seems to be adding airflow to the intake and exhaust. The computers adapt so long as the injectors and fuel rail can keep up. I have upgraded both in my car.
