I'm 17 and I'm dyslexic. I still have a hard time reading and writing and I'm afraid that I might not go to college when I graduate high school next year. Late update: I got accepted into four different colleges and I'm going to Centenary University in the fall to major in Early Education to become a teacher for younger kids that have a disability

I don’t know where you live but many colleges and universities will give you accommodations even at university levels

Be honest and talk to your grade counselor. Write down some key points. You will get extra help, time and accommodations

Neither of my sons went to college but they were very smart and both now have really good jobs in IT (one has his own company). Sometimes we're expected to do stuff, like go to college, as if its the ONLY way to excel and succeed. It isn't. I know it's a little different but I had to leave school at 15 so never even got much of an education but I've done many amazing things over the years as well as have two books published (Random House). So believe in yourself Sophia, work with the subjects you are good at - enjoy life and know that college is not the only goal. xxxxx

I am dyslexia too. I did not read until almost fourth grade, and my reading is still about a 6-7th grade level. I am also heading into the second year of my Ph.D.. If you want to go to college, then go to college. Do not let your fears stop you from achieving your goals. Keep working. Talk to your teachers and be open about your areas of weakness and things they can do to help. Also, invest in Grammarly (it's a lifesaver). I am sure you will do great things :)

I'm a private K - 5 reading tutor who's always making a point of learning more about dyslexia so I can better serve my students. To that end, this short video was VERY useful.

I have a Granddaughter that has dyslexia and she enrolled in hairdressing and they told her she was making excuses and she fell so far behind she had to quit. Sometimes her homework meant reading 16 pages of theory and then 16 pages of quest They did not give her any accommodations and she is devastated.

Thank you for sharing your story, Tyler. Did you know that California Governor Gavin Newsom is a person with dyslexia? He is very intelligent and successful, just like Tyler. Love your great sense of humor too. 🙂

It's not just about learning to read...most people with dyslexia know how to read. Its a disability, not like they can just learn how to read and boom it's fixed
