Before you comment ... please consider, that I was not sponsored and did not receive any instruction or education on the product from Dyson. I also didn't want my review to be influenced by what I saw others do, so I did not watch any videos or tutorials, I simply performed a real-world test like I believe most would do. Also, please know that I tested in on dry, damp and wet hair, so please watch the entire video. xo's

Hi Tati! I just got finished using mine for the third time & I really like it but there is a learning curve for sure! I have very curly long Hair that takes about an hour to round brush? blow-dry with my regular dryer. This just look me 45 min with the Dyson & I'm hopeful I will get faster in time. A few tips to try. First section your hair while it's damp so random pieces are not being sucked onto the barrel. Also you can use the med temp if the hot is to hot on your scalp. Of course always use a cool shot to lock in the curl & finally and most importantly turn off the dryer before releasing each curl. My curls hold for days, maybe even a little to much think of the mom on the Goldbergs show. LOL! Give it a few more tries, I think you'll find it worth the effort. XO

I think not watching a bunch of reviews or instructional videos is a good test to see how intuitive / user friendly a product is. Some people are used to some curling irons having the same results even if you start curling hair from the ends or the middle. If it takes too many steps (like switching things on/off or hot/cool) or a lot of preparation (dampening hair) to make something work then it makes sense that people might get frustrated when using it. The learning curve is real.

From what I’ve seen of stylists trying out the product, there is a rather large learning curve. It’s one of those products that takes getting used to and figuring out what works for your hair length. I personally wouldn’t spend that much considering I can do the same thing with a quick blow out and then 20 minutes with a curling wand. But the technology is awesome and maybe the design can be improved on and made more user friendly.

honestly i like that tati went in not knowing how to use it, just like most people would. if a product is THAT confusing that you need to thoroughly research how to use it (vs a simple curling iron) and its half a grand, than its a waste of money! a $30 curling iron is easy to use, wayyy more affordable, with better results! i feel like people are just desperate to waste their money lol

Everyone likes to talk to Tati and treat Tati like she has never done anything in her life. Hair, makeup, anything. She said why she didn't watch the videos about it, she explained her problems with it, but didn't say the product was bad, and even tried it on multiple people. She even praised Dyson. You all want Tati's first impression, not her to spend 5 hours learning how to use the product. If what she was normally doing, the way she normally sections her hair, works for her all the time, why should SHE have to change HER routine to make a product work? The point is to make the consumer's life easier, not harder, and for $550, it shouldn't take watching a specific video or a completely new routine.

I really appreciate your review of this product, Tati. After watching it I still wanted to see for myself and was able to snag one of the Air Wraps during the most recent Sephora sale. I have super thick hair that is about an inch longer than shoulder length. This product actually worked so well for me! I was able to dry and curl my hair within half an hour when it typically takes me 1.5hrs! I think this really goes to show that while a product might not be well liked by one person it might work well for another. There’s no reason for anyone to get up in arms about it. We all just need to be nicer to each other. Thank you for all the hard work you put into your reviews. It’s appreciated and doesn’t go unnoticed 💕

It's actually easier and faster than my curling or flat iron and my hair is healthier and looks much better. Yes $550 sounds like a lot of money but its a dryer, curler and a straightener. I guess it depends on people's preferences, I like mine to have loose curls and it takes time to get used to it but once I got used to it, it saves so much time. Not getting my hand or face burnt from the normal hot curling wand or a straightener is also a plus. And it doesn't make my hair having a burnt smell or doesn't make my hair crispy. The airwrap left my hair soft, shiny, and with the curl that I've always wanted but never got to achieve before getting this Dyson Airwrap. Plus hair looks healthy and natural too.

As I a hairstylist I would just like to give a few pointers for this tool and curling hair in general. Start fr the bottom and keep sections neat. Use a clip and only drop about a 2 inch thick row of hair at a time. Each curl should be within the length of the barrel. The best instruction for the tool is to heat until dry, also don’t move the tool back in forth just hold it still, blast with cold air for 5 seconds and then turn the device off to release the curl. Also DO NOT TOUCH YOUR CURLS UNTIL YOU ARE COMPLETELY DONE. The more you touch them right away the more they will fall. Hope this helps you and anyone else trying this device (or just curls in general) good luck! Lots of love for all your videos ❤️❤️

It looks like you're supposed to start mid-hair...not at the ends. You move it back and forth to create tension...but you start it from the middle and let the hair wrap on its own. If the hair is layered or textured you may not be able to move it back and forth as easy as they show.

Jessica Walker - I don’t think anyone is “defending” the brand when they complain about Tati’s testing done incorrectly. I love her, and I agree a tool shouldn’t be so hard to use especially for such high price, but at least whoever is testing it should read and follow the instructions. She tried the tool twice, and each time wasn’t done correctly. You are a hair stylist, tell me something, when was last time you saw someone not putting up their hair and separating in sections when blowdrying, curling or straightening hair?? I have never seen that. No one would do that, not even with a regular tool. You can’t expect your hair not getting caught up in a suction tool when it’s all down. It’s cutting edge NEW technology. Yes, anyone should read and follow the instructions. 2 minutes at theDyson website is all it would take. Any consumer would have done that, especially if you are buying a never-seen before tool for $550. I appreciate she is trying to give an honest review from a consumer point of view, but a consumer would have read the instructions and try to follow them. Also, she is a reviewer and people would want to watch her videos to find out more about the product. This video was very hard to watch and criticism should be expected.

my friend got one for her birthday, she does an amazing job with it on any type of hair, my hair is almost impossible to work with if it comes to curling, she managed to curl it with the Dyson. her own hair is very very curly and even that goes into perfect curles....

Start with damp hair. Section off hair top and bottom. Take a 1 inch section. Hold hair toward the end and turn it on and wrap up. Don’t go back and forth. Hold til hair is dry and then do a cool shot. Turn it off while the hair is still in the curled position (don’t pull the iron out while it’s still blowing air). It should work!

I was thinking the same thing. If she treated it like a curling wond it probably would've been easier. Instead of her hair drying doing her makeup it would've been more wet to use. I don't know anyone who curls their hair starting from the very middle top piece. She made it harder on herself. 🤷 I think she's mad at the price to make it seem like it's not worth it.

@Tati, I agree with your rationale around not watching reviews by other 'KZfaqrs'. but I would recommend watching any videos by the company or tutorials on using a product. The access to information is lightspeed these days. anyone's logic to ignore it (not referring to Tati here), saying things shouldn't need instructions is just lame! Products are called innovative because they don't operate the same way as the existing ones - hence the instructions!

MrRin213 except that most instructions for cars are pretty standard. Once you learn to use one you can pretty much use any car without watching tutorials. Especially expensive cars, they’re designed to make your life easier not harder. If you’re paying this much for a product that already has a standard use, why should there be such a steep learning curve to learn to use that specific product?

Lol ur kidding right??? Don't u have a right or wrong way to do nails... I mean u can spend so much money on a product but its not going to do the service for u. I honestly feel she should have gotten the hang of it first, then made a video. Practice with any tool makes perfect. This is a tool to assist with styling. Not a tool that styles for you.

My hair is thick, and unevenly wavy/curly/frizzy. Blowing with my GHD and a round brush took 30 mins and produced a fuzzy look that had to be smoothed out with a heat styling tool - curling iron or flat iron adding another 15 to 30 mins to my styling time and tremendous damage. I bought the airwrap smoot+control and in 10 minutes I blow dried my hair with the styling brush with very little frizz. I used the larger curling barrels very quickly and produced smooth bouncy and healthy waves at the bottom. It all took approx 13 minutes in total and my hair has never looked this good. I'm thrilled - less heat less time. It's very lightweight and not loud and obtrusive. Also, I've watched a ton of review videos and I'm surprised at just how many (including this one) are using it all wrong!!

There is a learning curve but it's not extreme. It takes a few tries because it's a different way to style. But once you have it down it's amazing. It's all about sectioning your hair and grabbing the right amount of hair and using it on damp, not soaking wet or dry hair. If your hair is dry spritz it with a water bottle to dampen before styling

Not shitting on Tati, just saying I typically come to her page for the most thorough and knowledgeable reviews. I was excited to see her review given her past ones usually include a TON of information, most of which she researched beforehand. Seeing her not even bother reading the instructions in full before trying it out was disheartening and made this review a lot less helpful. Just a thought as a consumer!

Exactly! I think the barrels are way too short to be effective on long hair. Mine is super long and I can curl it with a wand, but the barrels on this just seem so stubby. I think it's a terrific volumizer but not so hot in the curling department. I hope you get your Dyson dryer, Tati.

Why make a half attempt review? You read instructions when you get a new primer?? Why not read instructions with this.
@breannarg
@breannarg 5 жыл бұрын
Lisa Mefford that’s a good point. I even thought, if there was a new eye lash invention - curls your lashes and coats with mascara all in one! - you wouldn’t just try it. You would research it. You would make sure you give it the best attempt. In my opinion she used it more like a blow dryer - in the skill she applied - and not sectioning hair or holding the curl. Going to the end of the piece of hair, not the middle. Which is fine. But that’s an easy fix if you watch an instruction video... which is different then a review
