Great info, thanks for sharing! I just converted my V6 and V7 to using my DeWalt 20V batteries and seems great. I also most recently related uploaded a video detailing my custom hack to be able to use V7 attachments on the V6 since technically, I still need to repair my broken cyclone part on the V7 since arrived broken... though no big deal... just need to complete.

Nice presentation . Appreciate the side by side comparison. Interesting to note that Dyson will promote the V10 by saying that you no longer need your corded vacuum since the V10 is as powerful. But they don't tell you that it is only as powerful as a corded vacuum while on the high suction setting and for only 7 minutes. Nevertheless, they do work well and are convenient to use. Great video !

I'm not an expert in vacuum power figures, but the powered vacuum head helps too. I don't think many corded vacuum cleaners have that and I haven't experienced any issues with my Dyson V7's performance on the low setting.

I just bought the V6 for $200 and I'm glad I did because the v10 doesn't really perform that much better when it costs around $700 here in Sweden. Not going to spend $500 more for a couple of more minutes of run time.

The V10 and V6 charge in a similar way, although the input jack goes into the back of the handle on the V6 and it goes in just above the front of the battery on the V10. The input jacks are also different sizes.

Thank you for doing the hard work for us, I can now make an informed choice. However I'm not sure they are worth the $ considering the battery life and possible replacement. My priority for wanting a cordless Dyson is so I can clean on demand, after my dog and other everyday messes. In a busy home it's not always a once a week job. I would probably use it daily and only for a short time, is this going to cause the battery to degrade sooner? Good question someone asked - are replacement batteries expensive if indeed they are replaceable?
@ksull72487
@ksull72487 5 жыл бұрын
V10 or V11 Dyson claims 15 years on battery vs 24 months tops. Odds are it’ll be replaced before then but the V10 and V11 have the newer design that allows the battery to technically last the life of the vacuum. Safer bet and yes it’s a good point. $100 to replace. So a V10 or V11 is a better buy. Run time people over look. You will vaccum faster and switch settings and that trigger won’t always be held down. You’ll be surprised how much you can get done with one.

Thank you so much for this video. I finally splurged on a v10 cyclone animal and paid $450 for it to only find out it worked for a few minutes before the battery died. Some lady that has a cleaning and organization video on KZfaq said she cleans her entire 4000 sq ft house with it and does not have to recharge. I thought I got a defective vacuum. I did not understand that there are low, medium , high power settings. Plus why is there nothing to hold the power button in place. I find it super annoying having to hold it down the entire time. I feel like Dyson pays a lot of you tubers to promote their product, they all have a code and get paid if you end buying it. IDK...I’ll see how it works over time. I wish Tesla made vacuums. I bet 5heir battery would hold a charge for a reasonable amount of time.
@ksull72487
@ksull72487 5 жыл бұрын
You have to change your thinking to how these vacuums work. If you had that trigger down entire time you’d be vacuuming unnecessarily wasting power. If your lifting that stick up to reposition it then releasing the trigger saves the battery life. Second don’t do it on high. It’s medium or low. Medium I use the most. Low if it’s low traffic already clean areas and high when I got stubborn debris. Yes you can vaccum an entire house but you have to be methodical about how you use it.

Dont forget though, these figures you obtained from real life testing, are all obtained from machines with new batteries. The nature of rechargeable batteries is that as they age, and are put through more and more recharge cycles, they lose performance, and are not able to hold as much charge as they did when they were brand new. After 500+ recharge cycles (500 weeks if you use it and recharge it fully once a week, or 166 weeks if you recharge it 3 times a week, or just 71 weeks if the machine is fully discharged and charged up every day of the week), the batteries can often become so worn, that they simply stop being able to hold a charge, and run for only a minute or less despite being charged for the full 3 - 5 hours, and in this case, they must be removed from the machines and replaced. Some batteries may run for much more than 500 charge cycles if they are not used on MAX much of the time, and thus dont get as hot as they do when run for a full 7 minutes on MAX. The way the machine is used, how often it is fully discharged and charged up again, and whether its run on MAX for most of its life, will bear heavily on how long the machine is able to perform to the official run time specs, and those machines that are used pretty much every day, in a large house, with pets and several people living there, will obviously require more frequent battery replacements than a machine that is only used once a week for vacuuming a small apartment with one person and no pets living there.
@blakaeg
@blakaeg 6 жыл бұрын
Steve Jones Yep. The battery wears after a year or two. Max will not last 7 minutes.

The thing is, Lithium Ion batteries shouldnt be charged to 100% or discharged to 0%. To maximize battery llife, they should be used from around 20% to about 80% charge.

Thanks for this comparison, the real world figures are extremely useful. I own a V6 and the only reason I would consider a V10 upgrade is the waste disposal method.Having to grope around the collection cylinder and manually pull out the compacted dust is a real PITA.
@ksull72487
@ksull72487 5 жыл бұрын
The V10 or V11 isn’t bad. First the battery will last longer with more settings. Second it should not need to be replaced. It’s a better value. These vacs are different 7 minutes on high believe me you can do way more in 7 minutes than you can with an upright. You’ll find yourself adjusting settings and power as you use the vac to get the job done and due to the maneuverability and no cord ultimately vacuum faster. I usually use high when I see a lot of debris. Then switch it. You really can’t compare these vacs to an upright. They do the job but they are a whole new breed. My vote is the V10 as the price is down and will give you the best bang for the buck. On a budget I’d get the V7. The V8 is probably the one I’d skip. I have a V10. The V11 is gonna be a great vacuum but in my opinion too much money and the differences are subtle. So to sum this up. Get a V7 if your on a budget. If you need time and want durability on the battery then the V10 or V11. The V8 really isn’t that much of an upgrade over the V7. The V11 is the bells and whistles so the sweet spot is the V10.

7 minutes? 7 minutes? I barley got my stairs done and thought I received a defective model because it shut off so soon. Good greif. Just double the battery sizes, or do something else. People trust that "reputable" companies will produce a product that doesn't offer disappointing features, so much of the technical information such as, runtime, get glossed over. Gheesh...

I have a dyson v10, trust me, rarely u need the max suction, to me the medium setting works nicely, and it lasts close to 30 mins with power head. That's more than enough, and also keep in mind that 30 mins is the time you pull the trigger, you don't pull the trigger all the time when u use it like cord vacuum, with cordless ones u only pull the trigger when u actually cleaning, so the 30 mins of vacuum time is the time you actually sucking the dirt, not 30 mins of use, therefore it is more than enough for me, i live in a 1000 sq ft apartment, i'm not sure about regular 2 story house tho.

I have purchased over 5 different Dyson vacuums in all of my years ( some of the purchases were as gifts to family and friends ). Now, for first the time; I am having a problem with my current Dyson V8 ABSOLUTE. It now only runs for less 4.25 minutes in MAX ( it is still under warranty; date of purchase 13September2017 ). I keep my vacuums clean. I asked Dyson to just exchange it and if needed I would pay shipping. But, my reply from Dyson was NO. Therefore, I will clearly state this: DO NOT PURCHASE ANY DYSON PRODUCT. OH YEA !

How can the V10 have 35min on low if Dyson says it runs 60min? In another test videos, they tested 45-51min. But 35min is by far the lowest test result i ever hear.
@VacuumAdvisor
@VacuumAdvisor 5 жыл бұрын
60 minutes of run time for the V10 is the estimated time on Low Power mode with a non-motorized tool. The 35+ minutes is in Low Power mode with a motorized tool. All the figures in the video relate to using a motorized cleaner head. There are an entirely different set of figures for non-motorized tools (you may want to check out the link in the text below the video - it leads to a table with all the figures).

Looks like they cut the reach length of the machine, between handle to bottom of brush, after the V6. Then started making later iterations incrementally longer. I wish my V7 was longer, like a V6. That's a strange design choice; shortening the machine and then starting to make them longer again. I think that Dyson are quite partial to the odd, strange design choice, here and there, though. Like giving the V6 a HEPA filter then removing it from the standard V7. And replacing the trigger with an on/ off button on the V12 (which was probably a change for the better, especially considering it's longer battery life) and then scrapping that idea and reintroducing the trigger, again, on the V15. Also, the powerhead on my V7 died because the power wires, inside it, that are very thin and unprotected, are allowed to run free and rattle about, inside the dust channel of the articulated joint and they got damaged and eventually broke, by being pinched too many times, in between the moving parts of, said, articulated joint. I discovered it when I took the non functioning motorhead to bits and saw all the pinch marks in the bent wires. You'd think they would have them shrouded with SOMETHING, to protect them, if they were just being left to route through a channel in between a bunch of moving parts! Any more strange design choices or design faults and frailties, by Dyson? I would very much like to hear about them.
