The UMX planes are really an inexpensive gateway to flying RC. I got the pleasure of meeting and talking to one of the product developers for HH. I expressed my encouragement to him on keep making and improving models like these. They are definately on the right track. Excellent review by you my friend. 👍👍😉

Indeed! I still have an original UMX T-28, as part of my UMX fleet. I’ve been flying it for well over 10 years, and updated it with an AS3X receiver. The UMX Radian is a must have for anyone interested in the smaller planes. It’s a real delight!

Flying, slope soaring and especially thermaling with minimal equipment is my niche. Just puttering around the pattern and occasionally catching my glider is satisfying to me. I don’t mind ailerons but I really enjoy just rudder and elevator even more. I think this is the ticket! I’ll be sure to post videos like I did way in the past. Thanks for a wonderful visit. I’ll be back!

Bro, you probably do. It's funny man, we've talked about this before. This is one of those planes I was so sure wouldn't be my cup of tea...then I flew it. Totally changed my mind.

I have the original AS3X but no SAFE version which has yellow markings. I haven't flown it for years but agree it is a remarkable machine. I always had an issue with it porpoising in the glide and I never got to the bottom of it. Tried different weight packs and even a minor decalage alteration. I guess there is always a chance it was the earlier SAFE receiver? Anyway, I never plan to sell it. I glued the velcro in without the wing bolts: I just slide the wing in to fly and out to store in its case. The less lazy option is to put two holes in the velcro before gluing ... I have ridge soared a low wall with this in the past (a ha-ha to be exact). Can't see me doing that with one of my 2m jobs! I'm not a UMX fan really but I love this, the Yak 54 3D for indoor flying (although not as good as Twisted Hobbys Clik) and the UMX Stryker. Just remembered the battered baby Stryker has not been out of its box for a very long time either ...

You know man I don't fly my UMX stuff as much on a consistent basis, but I love them and go through phases of flying them a lot. They are so simple and easy to deal with, and the little Radian really surprised me. It is one of those planes I would not have bought, but now that I've flown one I'm so glad to have it. One of the real blessings of being sponsored is I've learned a lot. They send you what they want you to feature a lot of times and often it may be things you wouldn't think you'd be interested in. What I've quickly found out is that my gauge of what I know I'll like and what I know I won't isn't as accurate as I thought it was, and that has been the case quite often.

I bought the original version and love it to this day. I love to park fly because you can easily pick up thermals if you fly over a parking lot. I absolutely love it!

That looks like the perfect plane to toss in the back of the car, on top of the boogey boards and beach chairs, and bring to the beach or on any vacation really. I've wrestled my FMS Cub and other UMX's into the car for vacation. But, theyre really not suited to beach takeoffs or landings. This little guy looks perfect for it! Guess I'm adding it to my list. Thanks for this one, Adam... a nice change of pace and a lovely contrast to the high octane flyers. We love ours, but it doesn't get much 'channel time', so it'll need digging out. Loved the "But don't hit a Karen!" line 😂

Used to have this one but sold it quite a while ago. Love the Radian 2m, the original Conscendo & yet to fly the new FMS ASW-17. A nice gentle glider the umx. Beautiful flying Adam. Well presented.

It's a nice little plane and looks like relaxing fun. To bad it doesn't have ailerons and enough channels to program camber and reflex. The sink rate is actually more important on something like this than glide ratio. It looks like it has a nice slow sink rate. I would like to see an affordable motor glider in the sub-250 that is more high performance. I think suppliers can build upon this concept. Maybe a 900mm wing span, six/five channel.

The little Radian gets even better when you make a hole in the back of the battery tray so the battery can slide into the fuselage. I fly mine with the battery as far back as the battery wire allows and it glides even better plus it gets rid of a lot of the uncommanded climbing while the motor is running.

Cool Chris, but how would getting the CG back make it climb less under power? Not sure I understand that...should be the exact opposite.

@@ModelAV8RChannel because when the plane is nose heavy it needs up elevator to carry the nose at low speed (glide), but when you increase airspeed and prop wash with the motor the elevator gains more control authority and causes the plane to nose up and climb. It also makes it more aerobatic and it feels lighter on the sticks. When the CG is right the elevator and horizontal will be almost perfectly straight for level flight, almost no visible up elevator trim. It's only a small hole in the foam to test it out 😉

@@tonydarst8211 mine CG's at 35mm back from the leading edge on my balancer with the prop blades folded. That's level balance none of that stupid nose low balance people always say. Balance is balance and it's not balanced till it's level 😁 Just a little back from the 28mm they say is the rear limit 😜 It could probably safely go back a little more but that's as far as my battery lead allows.

It's a great little plane for sure, my only regret is that I waited so long to buy one. It can be relaxing or fun, just love it! You shoul also try the UMX Ultrix, it's really fun and probably the easiest to carry around.

When soaring, keep in mind that the power consumption of the rx and servos can actually drain that miniscule battery a lot faster than what you're used to in standard sized models, even if you don't run the motor. Don't ask me how I know. But it' worth the risk!

I consistently have to fight to keep mine in sight because it thermals so well. I think I just burned out my first motor. I wish there was a brushless option.

Are UMX the thing Eflite does best? Looking back on their history they've really excelled in that space like no one else, and they are all shockingly good. I couldnt find a list anywhere, but they must have had at least 50?

Yeah man I'd say 50 or better for sure. No denying they are THE ultra micro planes to own, and you're right...most of them have flown great.
