I rebuilt an old sealed lead acid e-scooter with this exact motor; I had to cut about a half inch off either side of the speed controller to get it to fit the chassis (snugly) but it all fits. Now I'm waiting on the new throttle to arrive with the integrated 3 speed switch and a reverse button. Mine had the reverse button but no 3 speed selector, and your video came in quite handy to figure out why I wasn't getting advertised top speed. Thanks for helping me solve that, there wasn't even an installation guide in the box. I'm running 2x 48V 15AH Li ion packs in parallel, giving me approx. 30AH capacity. I did have to drill out the rivets of the old XLR charge port so I could rivet in the new one (different polarity), otherwise there wasn't any real modification required for the frame. Everything bolted right up and I reused the factory wiring channels to keep it looking like a factory install. (Speaking of, well done with the cable management on the mean green machine, it looks rather neat and tidy!)

Definitely correct, you can go higher voltage and get to those kind of numbers but for user friendly ease of drivability for kids it's great. No carbs gumming up if it sits a couple months and snappy mechanical clutches are rough for beginners too. Again, for all out power and speed I think starting with a Hemi would be the best choice

In the process of building a drift kart with the same motor set up, what size sprockets are you using?
@ROCKBOTTOMCUSTOMS
@ROCKBOTTOMCUSTOMS Жыл бұрын
Originally I used a 54 tooth but I've since changed it to an 80 tooth for more low end power but less top speed and stepped up to the #35 chain. Smaller gear on the motor is still a 9 tooth but in a #35. This link helps for calculating top end speed. That motor I used was rated for $4,500 RPM but after using my GPS to clock the speed of the go-kart I would guess it's turning closer to 4,000 RPM. www.bmikarts.com/Go-Kart-Gear-Ratio-Speed-Calculator?gclid=Cj0KCQjwxb2XBhDBARIsAOjDZ35Jv1xZ0X3O2e103oMdL9Vok1CwbcBsCT6T8JZzEzsRpplbk55PKJUaAiXAEALw_wcB

Would u reccomend this kit for a 110cc kids quad / ride on cooler project? Or would that setup not be good for a heavier project
@ROCKBOTTOMCUSTOMS
@ROCKBOTTOMCUSTOMS 3 ай бұрын
If it has a transmission it should be fine if you gear it right you should have plenty of power to take off in 1st gear then shit up for more speed. If it doesn't have a transmission it's just in the speed you should probably go for more voltage.

Are you talking about a little ride on cooler like pit bike? If so I think it would be good for something like that You're probably going to only be going 20 mph or so I think it's fine if geared right.

Im going to convert my sons hammerhead (2 seat full cage) go kart do you think the 48v 1800w kit would be powerful enough or should I get the 72v 3000w
@ROCKBOTTOMCUSTOMS
@ROCKBOTTOMCUSTOMS 7 ай бұрын
48v may be pushing it with 2 people on rough terrain. I would go with 72v and you could always slow it down with the high med low switch for starters and with the right gearing it should be plenty of power for the 2 seater.

I am a high school student and we are trying to make a go kart basically just like yours here, how well do the batteries you are using work on the long run? We are going to make a video and post it on YT so once that comes up I'll share link
@ROCKBOTTOMCUSTOMS
@ROCKBOTTOMCUSTOMS Жыл бұрын
I've never tried to run them dead. Usually about a 45 minute to an hour ride or so then I charge them back up. The charger I'm using shows an approximate percentage while they're charging and I've never seen it below about 25% when I plug it back in. A lot of that would depend on terrain weight of the rider and gearing. Let me know if you have any other questions about the setup. Thanks for watching

If you want a decent cheap gokart experiance use sealed lead acid batteries (sla). Like he is. I also use them too. But if you want a long battery life and more power and a long battery lifespan. Buy lithium batteries. They are more expensive though

Awesome go kart btw! What is the gear ratio?
@ROCKBOTTOMCUSTOMS
@ROCKBOTTOMCUSTOMS Жыл бұрын
Top gear on the motor is 9 tooth and axial gear is 71 tooth so I think that comes out to roughly 7.9:1 ratio top speed is around 20 mph. I originally had a 56 tooth on the axle it was topping out a little over 30 but didn't have great power on takeoff so I switch to these 71t. All that is with a 14" O.D. tire.
