Go behind the famous equation with Hitoshi Murayama. This famous equation, part of the theory of relativity set forth by Einstein, changed our understanding of nature at the most fundamental level. The fascinating story of energy (E) and mass (m) is still evolving a century since Einstein as we understand more of where they come from, how they shape the universe, and the missing pieces of the universe: Dark Matter and Dark Energy. Series: "Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory Summer Lecture Series" [2/2006] [Science] [Show ID: 11026]

I hope you had chance to see my last video clips, I try to slow down as much as possible to explain things clearly. Atoms will grow size wise only if they pick up more mass particles other wise they will stay the same size or decay. Mass supplies the energy to a atom, atoms consume the energy within certain rate, if supply exceeds demand another electron will formed. We know well molecules don't move in higher speed, their movement wont exceed more than 10 mile an hours within atmosphere.

22:00 what things in a proton or electron are moving so fast ? what thing make them to move the proton or electron n what make them to stay or does those things inside them stop moving when a proton don't move n they move when it move ? if it is like that then what is the thing which is controlling them ? if mass is that how much proton is moving inside the atom and that produce energy what make a living thing to use that energy on right time when they need it ?

That make's more sense because all objects have their own time line of broken symmetry relative to their own energy or mass at the centre of their own ref-frame's. The apple composes itself from photosynthesis from the light and low potential gases, into high potential liquids and solids and after the work has been done radiation is the normal death principle as the apple decomposes itself back into gases and vapours from the inward absorption and outward emission of electromagnetic wave front's

As in (E=ˠM˳C²)∞ the Lorentz contraction of space and time is between the energy and mass. The greater the energy the greater the contraction of space and the slower time will run. Mass will increase relative to this and each ref-frame can be seen as a vortex in space formed by the rate that time flows. C² is light radiating out in all directions forming a sphere that can be squared to form the future probability. The brackets represent the boundary condition of the ref-frame within infinity!

Vibrating wave centres of matter are opposed motion simulating rest and balance now through violent motion compressing E=mc2 decompressing expanding spheres dissipating gravity. Everything is two opposing vortices compressing+4-0-4+-decompressing expanding spheres. Only difference between solids, liquids, gases and plasma E2 is Volume. Outward expansion of EMR repels like charged wave centres absorbing and emitting the density from two previous levels spiralling outward mass dividing gravity C2.

@emilynmanaig you can add speed on top of speed, but there is a limit. its the cosmic speed "C" this speed limit happens to be the speed of light. if we try and add speed on to the speed of light it wont work, the speed of light is constant. your question is a valid one though, its hard to know absolute motion or absolute speed, im i dont think we are close to speed "C" at all. all we know is what is relevant to us.

The actual equation is m=E/c^2. E is constant with a particle unless accelerated by an outside force so it's a given. c is a given. Your perception of c is determined by the energy/mass density of the medium it travels through. The higher the density, the slower your perception of c is, but it's still c since all velocities are actually in terms of c. Energy isn't determined by the mass, mass is determined by the energy. People keep looking for dark matter not realizing that photons have mass. If you realize this, you will understand mass very well. The fact that you can't measure it doesn't mean it's not there. Oh BTW neutrinos are actually very high energy gravitons. They travel at c with 0 rest mass. The only reason you don't think it's moving at c is because detectors are built underground so they seem to be going slower than c because of the density of the matter they are travelling through. Neutrinos are created by accelerating a massive particle just as photons are created by accelerating a charged particle. The "area of effect" of a neutrino is determined the same way as a photon meaning the higher the energy, the smaller it is. Only accelerating an electron into or out of a proton or a neutron will produce a graviton with enough energy to be detected.

I imagine all forces formed by E2 a locational spherical inward absorption density 4pi and outward emission density 2pi of electro magnetic wave front's forming antimatter matter annihilation, + and -electric charge and EM-field's, or resonance and now interference as time unfolds from an atom or group of atom's contracting E2 reacting and expanding C2 together forming inward force called gravity. Like rain multiplying volume of a lake increasing exponentially as gravity spills over the edge's.

E=mc^2 seems to be missing something that E^2=m^2c^4 still has. I guess Dirac saw this. Maybe part of what is missing is found in E=sqrt(m^2)c^2 observing two possible solutions +m and -m for the same value of E, implying gravitational mass and inertial mass are not necessarily sign-equivalent and that GR has no explanation for antimatter, supposed a complete lack of it, and probably gives an excuse to miss seeing antimatter and to go off on matter-based snipe hunts where it's dimly glimpsed..

For that we have to get even deeper into it see how certain level of energy combine becomes something different.

I'd've thought the E=mc² belonged to M. Curie because of her precision work with radium and polonium and, uranium and thorium-measuring their radioactivity energies-ca late 1890"s... certainly it could have inspired Einstein to formulate it, in-fact it would explain why his Special Theory of Relativity was diagnosed as D-arithmetic, because he'd skipped a proper derivation from Newton for linear dependence and landed on the square-law dependency energy, which Minkowski then worked backward to a familiar mistake we learn in college today.... (Newton was so far ahead of his colleagues that he got lazy and never calculated the mathematical implications of finite light-speed on the perception of space-time, though he recognized Roemer's discovery.)

Have we been mesmerized by the formula "E=mc2"? The only explanation of the c2 (c-squared) part given in this one hour lecture is "just think of c as a very big number." Ok, so really the formula is "E=M times a very big number". Why not restate it like that once and for all and get rid of the confusing concept that somehow the amount of energy produced from mass is directly related to the speed of light squared (which is simply a constant, and may be expressed in any arbitrary units)?

@Michel0555 A good example of converting energy into mass is the creation of the universe. Every solid thing you see in the universe is the "residue" of the energy created by the big bang. Stars, planets, galaxies, etc...

Suppose the radius of Hoag's galactic ring is largely set by constant quantum gravitational flux from the galactic core at ~60K ly, i.e. close to proton radius times near-limit electrostatic/gravity force between protons, each quantum expressing a quantum-based sinusoidal multiplier, and that all gravity follows the same quantum rule. If one can do that, one can suppose the gravitational quantum is spin 1, exchange of two quanta is a spin 2 effect, and easily kiss curved space-time goodbye.

Could human mathematics be based on the dynamic geometry of the Universe? If we take E=MC² we can see that energy is linked to light. Light will radiate out in every direction at a constant speed forming a sphere therefore we have π in human mathematics. This is a continuous process with the future coming into existence light photon by light photon therefore we can only ever have an approximation of π. This is an invitation to see an artist theory of the physics of ‘time’ as a physical process!

I think part of this is a little outdated. (around 31 minutes) As of recently, we now know that the missing mass in a galaxy is the supermassive black hole in the center. This has been proven (at least in our galaxy) by observing the orbit of stars very close to the center of the galaxy with the new corrective optics in the telescope in Hawaii.

Particles were never meant to be confused as things, they are nothing more than points of reference for wave phenomenon & dynamics. People can say the colors: red, blue green etc. & use them to refer to very specific frequencies, the same with this nomenclature of particles that has become a science to itself with limited range, scope & understanding inventing new words for previous words & meanings better described by Quantum Theory & Wave Mechanics. Scientists ignore Science.

Where does E= Mc^2 come from? In 1905 Einstein asked: Does the inertia of a body depend upon its energy content? The answer was: Yes, it depends on its energy E= Mc^2 So, Einstein said - E= Mc^2 comes from inertia 2 In 1928 Dirac said - E= Mc^2 comes from vacuum and can be as positive as negative too 3 Sometimes E= Mc^2 can be ‘rest’ particle and sometimes can be ‘active’ and can destroy cities like Hiroshima and Nagasaki Why E= Mc^2 is so strange ? Nobody gives answer

[25:40] 'Turning Off the mass of the electron' would have no such effect, as its charge would suck it down into the nucleus, and the Earth too would shrink down to a neutron 'planet', and there'd be no general escaping as he claims.... Nevertheless, if these 'imagination' electrons were to retain their mass-energy 511 keV, converting their rest mass to photonic rather than lose it, they'd shrink their orbits according to their wavelengths to about 2/137th their usual. [48:39] No explanation for why galaxies are not expanding with cosmic space, expansion....
