Hey! What's new and exciting!
I have never been a very good imporvisor. As such, I compose all of the solos in my songs and rarely improvise in recording sessions for other artists.
I started developing a new method for soloing over changes. Interestingly enough, I studied with two Jazz guitar teachers and one Funk/Fussion teacher and I was never able to even grasp a method until now.
As you'll hear, the solo is OK, but I want to call your attention to all of the mechanical things I'm doing wrong. If you've followed my channel for any length of time you'll know that these mechanics are really important to me.
Here are my observations. See if you can spot them as well.
1. My posture sucks. Note the rounded shoulders
2. My thumb spends most of the time above the neck. This is not the end of the world as my wrist is still mostly neutral. Still, it's a habit I've been trying to break for years.
3. Notice how high I lift my fingers from the fretboard. It makes it difficult to play fast when your fingers have to travel such a distance. Also, I believe that this is tied to point number-two.
Did you see any of these mistakes? Did you find anything else? Are you making any of these mistakes? Let me know in the comments below.
