Join me as I sit down with NHL legend Teemu Selänne to discuss the lessons his father taught him, how to handle success and failure, the experience of owning a restaurant, and how he keeps Finnish traditions alive in his family. Don't miss this inspiring conversation with one of the greatest players in hockey history.
Join me on a 1,5 month-long road trip across the US as I meet with Finns and explore their experiences and perspectives on what it means to be Finnish in America, success, and failure, and living abroad.
Featuring interviews with IIHF Hockey Hall of Famers, the Ambassador of Finland to the US, a professor at Michigan University, and more, this docuseries offers a unique glimpse into the lives of Finns in the US.
Created, edited, and produced by Santi Fox, with music by artlist.io/Santi-276613 and mastering by Jonas W. Karlsson. Featuring a logo by Jouni Jones Lehtonen, see end for full credits.

No offense but it fucking pisses me off when Finnish people, while speaking English, perpetuate the very incorrect pronunciations of Finnish names that native English speakers use. His name isn't fucking Selani. Very good production though.

We use what we get told in the US our names are. If I say my Finnish last name in the US the Finnish way, nobody understands it, so I learned in the 10 years I lived there on how to modify it so the DMV will understand me 😁 part of what we talk about in future episodes is also what we had to change to conform into the english speaking culture, especially the US where they mainly don't care to pronounce anything right.

Well that goes other way around too, i think you are not pronouncing all english names correct either. Yeah it could be a pretty funny when foreigners try to pronounce finnish names especially when there is a lot of double vowels or consonants in the name.

Lol... Teemu doesn't like taxes, which in turn keeps Finland stable and allow to help everyone. Teemu does not like lenient jail sentences, while it has helped Finland to become one of the safest countries by concentrating on rehabilitation instead of punishment, having third of recidivism in ten years compared to USA in TWO YEARS.. Teemu is a regular right winger who has never taken time to find out WHY Finland is so happy and nice place: Policies that he disagrees with. Teemu also does not know that Finland is more business friendly than USA. Teemu is rich. He does not need to know these things, he can afford to pay someone to handle everything. That is our entrepreneur and philosopher.. All he knows is what his buddies has told him and that he has to pay more in taxes if he moved back.

Lenient sentencing is definitely not why Finland is safe lol. It's the reason why people like Michael Penttilä are allowed to murder again and again. Rehabilitation is a good approach for many criminals, but Finnish law simply doesn't know what to do with the rare but extremely dangerous repeat offenders who show no remorse or willingness to change despite being sentenced for homicide multiple times.

@droogiesouls8635 Жыл бұрын
Wow, typical jealous Finn. Heh! Teemu has earned every dollar he has, through extremely hard work. Finland needs longer jail sentences for sure. The justice of people does not meet with the justice of system, we want longer jail sentences for pedos, rapists etc. Taxes are high in Finland and should be used way better. We throw away so much tax money to absolute nonsense, such as foreign aid and handing out free social welfare for anyone who comes to our country. Mindless. That's why our land is on the verge of collapse. Kulutusjuhlat on ohi.

Teemu is a great hockey player and seems to have a good heart BUT he’s not a great political mind. He doesn’t see the connection/correlation between what’s great about Finland and why it is that way. How Finland provides a more equal opportunity for every child to follow their dreams, has a lot to do with the taxes that enable an excellent educational system, healthcare, and social services etc.
@nv2138712nsijudnf

Also, having harsher penalties for breaking the law and imprisoning a lot of people hasn’t made the US any safer for us Americans.
@johnj8069
@johnj8069 Жыл бұрын
@@nv2138712nsijudnf more lenient penalties wouldn't make the US any safer either... Finland has traditionally just been very homogeneous, everybody has been the "same" , everybody gets a decent education, nobody gets to born in ghettos, no racism or racial injustice (again because everybody is/was white, it's obviously changing slowly with the refugees..) Or do you really think that Finland would get "less safe" if they gave longer sentences to rapists for example?
@nv2138712nsijudnf
@nv2138712nsijudnf Жыл бұрын
@@johnj8069 if the criminal system would be more focused on punishment than rehabilitation Finland would be less safe, just like the US is. Recidivism rates are way higher in the US, meaning: a one time offender is likelier to cause more suffering to more victims after they serve their first sentences. It is true that in a country such as Finland where every child gets a more equal chance at life there are less reasons for anyone to turn to crime. This has nothing to do with the color of people’s skins.
