For the first time I was CORTISOL challenged recording this amazing episode with Carly. My thoughts were scattered and words hard to put together. Carly was a gracious and patient guest. Her journey has be simple and uneventful. Stories like Carly's need to be heard.
Let me tell you about Carly. She is a 27 year old phd student in Ontario, Canada who has been living with Addison's Disease since she was 22 years old. With a sudden onset of symptoms over a few months Carly keeping PUSHING ON thinking her failing health was simply the stress of life. Hoping a rest over the holiday break would resolve her overwhelming "fatigue", the feeling of DOOM brewing inside of her and the comments from family and friends that she looked upwell led to a trip to the doctors. Her grave state and doctors who recognized the likely cause of low sodium Carly was quickly diagnosed with Addison's Disease. She took her diagnosis simply as a new chapter in her life and went back to living her dreams.
Her energy and outlook is contagious. She has learned valuable lifestyle skills to manage her illness, avoid crisis, have high quality of life and accomplish her goals. She knows when to PUSH ON and when to PUSH OFF with her Addison's Disease.

Excellent episode!! Some random thoughts while listening: --I believe earlier diagnosis can help prevent or minimize other autoimmune-related complications by getting on hydrocortisone earlier. The more comorbidities you have, the more challenging it can be to manage adrenal insufficiency, so please get help when you need it --The stairs reminder is very beneficial as a helpful guage of the cortisol level. For me, it's the difference between quickly walking up the steps unaided to having my legs feel super-heavy and needing to drag myself up step by step using the railing. --I love the new "push off" phrase! :)

Fantastic interview.. Loved it. Loved the " push off". Term...😅😅😅Going to remember that....As i think we all do push way too hard... Then we must remind ourselves say to ourselves.. " push off"... the pushing....😅😅Love how organised you are . Thats a great idea to write a schedule..!! So we dont " overpush ourselves" And so important to give ourselves those important breaks. For nutrition, rest and pop our magic pill😅😅😅. To keep our bodies functioning. I find listening to my body is the most important thing. As our bodys will always tell us when to stop abd rest. But we are human. And push. Then collapse in an exhausted tearfull heap !! Which can always be avoided...pacing and managing...i set alarms on my phone when i need to tske my meds... so i cant forget. And yes that 4pm slump of energy draining away. Brain function going... soon reminds us to pop our magic pill....Then we feel almost human again😅😅😅. Early nights...yes...lots of sleep.. i love wgat you said Jill" find sonething in life that lights up your soul" Tottally agree..Thats what makes life worth living. Mskes us feel happy . Happy mind happy body...so connectted..we all need to find something we love doing...and get on and live our lives to the full...This illness will not stop us...living our lives....we just need to take care of ourselves. Mind body nutrition...lots of self love....and pushing off...😅😅😅

The strangest thing with me is I never crave salt, but I know I add salt to my water because I have to Addison’s disease and I take high vitamin C like Camu powder in my water and B5 B1 and I try to eat right I’m never hungry, but I eat things like meat and vegetable Love my avocado I have to say with cocoa powder and some maple syrup makes great dessert, chocolate pudding, and I have frozen bananas with Kiefer and cream makes great ice cream I like something sweet so if I crave anything it would be that but I try to eat meat and vegetables for proteinand I believe I’m eating right just never hungry. I have to make myself eat.

Think it was a month or two later anyway, they found out I had Addison’s disease, but when I got out she did not put me on no prescription I have not been on no prescription no pills I’m exhausted all the time have to lay down, lost a lot of weight since I’ve been in the hospital I lost weight in the hospital never have an appetite. I make myself eat every day. I was very active person I push my lawnmower, a mow, my whole grass, my whole yard front and back with my lawnmower, pushing lawnmower I hang all my clothes I clean carpet and tile with my husband very very hard worker for years married for 23 years with him and I noticed years ago I was having brain attack every month very very scary and it affect me for days after if not a week or two very exhausted very tired, but I’m not on any medication to see my doctor here in about a month at the end of August so I don’t know what’s going on but since I’ve had all of this, you feel like you’re dying it’s just a very horrible feeling that’s all I gotta say
