Chech all the batteries in the bank separately and make sure u dont have one with a dead cell that will draw down all the good batteries and cause them to fail faster

Holly, good job. You should look for a manual impact driver, a tool that lets you put a screwdriver bit in (like a phillips), and when struck, it applies a lot of force to the screw. Search "manual impact driver" at Amazon to see the tool. Also, you should use anti-seize compound when you put things back together so they will come apart much easier the next time. The end of that cable has a 10mm ish nut on the end! Much faster and easyer to just undo that than fiddle with that pin.

Always lots of work on a boat for sure. You're very good at making things work. Sometimes or probably most of the time you can't run to the local store and buy what you need. But you make it work much respect. ⛵

I have noticed that when you start your engine, you move the key to run (1 o’clock) and then to start (2 o’clock). Then after starting you seem to return the key past run to the off position (12 o’clock). I have a Bukh DV20 too and I have always been told to keep the key in run and not dwell long in “off” with the engine running before turning to the kill position (11 o’clock) because it is bad for the alternator. Unless yours is a different installation and has a glow plug position perhaps. Also don’t leave the key in the kill position as it drains the battery through the shut down solenoid and eventually will burn the kill solenoid out. This all said, I am not a Bukh expert.

While on the mooring you can just shift into gear and charge the battery. The boat will just have resistance. Just like being tied to a dock. Better to run engine under load. Great place you were at. Fair winds on the rest of the voyage

Yes. Then engine might have been easier or instead of the pin, undoing the nut at the end of the rod. It was screwed in flush with the end of the rod and you could have replaced it to the same depth. You are awesome. I envy your courage and adventurousness. Keep it up.

I bought flat semi-flexible solar panels from Lensun They are 50 watt each and I have 4 mounted with 2 still to mount. I have very light loads as you do: no refrig, no water maker .. just LED lights and radio. I attached them to the deck with Sikaflex-291. Love them. Good Luck

Bad luck with the gear lever. There's a small grub screw right at the bottom of the lever, its hidden unless you put lever in reverse. Normally a small allen key will get it out. I had the misfortune to dismantle a morse control box after the detent button stopped working, there's only 3 or 4 moving bits inside and a small spring. The box itself was riveted shut and l had to drill them out then use nut and bolt to reassemble. Its a clever but easy to understand mechanism inside, just clean and pack with grease. On ours the spring had rusted to nothing but got another for pennies. The repair is much cheaper than cost of a new one. Loving your approach to sailing, wish l was there with you........

I was always taught that diesels don't like running under no load, ie neutral and to charge the batteries while in gear. Running in neutral can cause glazing. I used charge my batteries while moored securely with astern engaged. Never had a problems, except you use a bit more fuel. Any thoughts on this out there?

An easier way to release the gearcable is just to release the cable from the clamp (two inches in front of the mechanism) instead of disconnecting from the control. Then the whole gearwire will move, but as the gearcable-sock is no longer attached, the motor will run in neutral. A 10 sec job instead of 15 mins

Bit late now I know but prob easier to disconnect the throttle and adjust revs pushing the cable in and out. 😁

Great video Holly, it's good to see you getting the job done. I don't know what access you have to your gearbox but I think you might find disconnecting that end a bit easier. Having said that, if you still haven't got that button unstuck you might be able to re route the cable so you can use it in the cockpit and make a handle so you can engage forward and saturn separately from the throttle. Vice grips are the best invention, well after the hammer. Hope you get it sorted. It would be interesting to know what blew your fuse, it might pay to look for chafed wires.🏴‍☠️

You are a master at "improvise,adapt and overcome." If all else fails, break out the visegrip pliers, the PB Blaster and WD-40. As for questions, how old is the motor on your boat?
