@@housinit I have gotten a few responses with others that have bought them. Overall I think pretty positive. I did have one report that it burned out, but I have no idea how it was mounted, and it was on a 40min flight, so I am thinking it was on a wing or plane, and possibly little air flow. I did also have a report that 400mw started out at 400mw but as it heated up came down to about 320mw, that testing was on a bench with a fan.

I tested this on immersion RC power meter. Its output varies dramatically. At 400mw, on some channels it will put out >900mw! while on other channels it'll be around 250mw and drop rapidly as it overheats. It does overheat and shutoff but if you fly around it's just fine. I do worry about longevity - but it's been great for me so far but I only run it at ~100mw.
@VincentFischer
@VincentFischer 5 жыл бұрын
Very interesting! Is the current draw increased in these 900mW conditions or is it pissing away energy as heat on 250mW channels? Also it would be great if you could briefly mention what channels are 900mW. Thank you

@CesiumSalami
@CesiumSalami 5 жыл бұрын
@@yekt3805 I'm not sure ... i assume it will vary unit to unit a bit. All vtx's have this variance (weak channels and strong) but this one varies a lot. Unfortunately, I wasn't really noting channels with strong and weak - sorry. It was just too hot to handle (most VTX's are they just have more area to hold) and I was too lazy to read the led singals indicating the channel :/

No audio though, right? I got's to hear my quad. Edit: Have you tried the AKK Oscar's backpack? Great form factor and works pretty well for me, but I haven't done any testing to compare it to anything else. I can't remember if it goes above 200mW or not, but I figured I'd mention it in case you weren't familiar with it. I just need audio because I can't fly worth a flip if I can ' t hear my motors/props, and the Oscar's backpack was the smallest VTX with audio I was able to come up with as of about 6 months ago. I actually use them on my brushed whoops.

While that might be true, there is "science" aspects I didn't look at. Like channel bleedover when flying with more than 1 person. True mw rating is another, is 400mw really 400mw etc. Likely a number of others, this is plain and simple...fly it and see what happens.

@thirtythreeeyes8624
@thirtythreeeyes8624 5 жыл бұрын
I would expect it to get hotter the higher the mw. More power more heat, a vtx isn't 100% efficient especially without a proper tuned antenna. The more power you try to get it to pump out the more power gets "stuck" in the vtx and dissipated as heat.
@Kabab

@@thirtythreeeyes8624 these things a lot of the time draw the same power regardless of output. Depends on the electronic design
@thirtythreeeyes8624
@thirtythreeeyes8624 5 жыл бұрын
@@Kabab Really in my experience the higher the output power the higher the input power and every adjustable vtx I have or have seen goes up in both amp draw and heat when the output is turned up, which would make sense considering on 25mw the PA chip isn't even active and that's what's drawing most the power. It seems that at 25mw most will draw about 100ma -150ma with a good antenna, where as a 200mw or higher will draw from double to triple and it goes higher when you go up in mw, you wouldn't expect a 2watt vtx to pull the same amps and produce the same heat as 25mw right?
@Kabab

@@Kabab That's a really shitty design then. I wasn't even aware you could have the pa on and acting as a pass through at the same time. If that's true and they take the same power at any setting than they should be getting hotter the lower mw that's just basic thermodynamics. less power out same power in means heat and lots of it especially if it's the same amp draw as a 600mw vtx and only transmitting 25mw. I'm interested to know which vtx are you aware of that does this so I know to never buy one.

Best nano VTX? Now that sounds like a challenge! I've trouble flying 100mW micro quads through & out the house because it's 100+ years old with stone walls over a foot thick, this might be the key... BTW, it's back down to $14.99, the countdown on the page says there's nearly 7 days left of the sale.

@Nick Burns I wouldn't worry about it, we all know the games they play with their sales prices, you only need to say 'at the time of making this video it was $price, but check the link for yourself in the description' :) bigclivedotcom has created a price effect all on his own, sometimes when he does a teardown of an interesting cheap Chinese sourced item, many people rush to get one and the marketplace reacts by upping the price!

He's got a nice calm voice, babies agree too because apparently parents put on his videos which helps them go to sleep! I take it you've seen his famous (don't let kids watch) Fanny Flambeaux video? The bigclivedotcom price effect does annoy people, but without his videos they wouldn't know those gadgets even existed.

When something cool like this comes out, you should buy 200 of them to sell from your house so we can get it in a few days instead of 6 weeks from Banggood! haha. Actually, this might not be a bad idea for someone who is interested in that kind of thing.

@@NickBurnsFPV Yeah I didn't figure you'd be that guy ;) It's frustrating that Banggood (and Gearbest too) sell such cool products for good prices all the time because by the time they arrive at your door, it's on the verge of obsolete. Maybe we've just become good at seeing 6 weeks into the future and have to take it in stride! With great power comes... a cost.

Is it easy to wire to a crazybee board and a eos2. Never used a vtx only aio cameras.
@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV 5 жыл бұрын
Its hard to say "easy" I have done it so many times. Basics of it is 5v and ground from board to 5v and ground in to the vtx, from 5v and ground out from the vtx to the camera. signal/yellow wire from camera to video in or vin and signal/yellow from vtx to video out or vout. Then the green wire on vtx to Tx1/2 on the board. Set the uart or tx number on the ports tab to tramp on the far right, save and reboot flight controller. All done.

Alright Nick.... now the big question. Fatshark v5, skyzone 02C/x Or eachine EV200. I’m in the market for a fresh pair of goggles. Don’t want to spend HDO money. I’ve watched both uavfuture and josh bardwells videos. If you say eachine I will be pissed lmao, or aomway lol. Anyways I’m leaning toward fatshark or the skyzones unfortunately I can’t try either out so I’m shooting from the hip here. You’re right to the point. Lay it on me. Or do I keep using these crappy emax rtf kit googles and wait for the mythical orqa goggles lol
@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV 5 жыл бұрын
I have only used the skyzone 02X. I think the safer choice is the FS v5. The FS goggles have a pretty uniform fit, the ability to swap out rx modules and big time support.

Nick, how do you get the u.fl to not pop off in a crash or get it to stay on RELIABLY? I hate u.fl for that reason. Thought maybe I could use your technique because this VTX has super solid performance and, of course weight! Also, it's only $11.90 when you buy 2.
@NickBurnsFPV

I am not sure there is a trick. If there is it could 1. putting it on carefully not to spread the outer edges of the antenna clasp, or securing the non-ufl end as to not put pressure on the ufl. We could use some e6000 glue, which will give, I don't recommend securing the ufl with strong glue as the impact could be to pull the ufl off the board, which would be bad bad.

Using iNav, I'm trying to get smart audio to work on my f411wse fc over its softserial tx1 port under Tramp protocol. I am new to the Tramp ways and I don't have my rx yet so all my attempts have been through cli only. I am getting video and can change channels and power using the button. Any ideas what I am doing wrong or ideas to try? Thanks
@NickBurnsFPV
@NickBurnsFPV 4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't have experience with iNav. Typically if we have the wiring to the correct pads we only need to enable tramp/smart audio to that port. Again, not sure how iNav expects it.

Does it come unlocked? That would also be a plus. What version of betaflight are you running? I am assuming that the tramp protocol works on any version of betaflight.

yes, not locked. I was running 3.5.7, I do think all version of BF support tramp, there is an issue with TBS smart audio and BF version.

I have, the mic on it is not good for audio purposes, likely fine if you just want to hear the quad for flight not video purposes, but otherwise it seems to be the same as v1.
