I now realized what got me to really like Jae. He's stubborn - does what he really wants, makes his own decisions, goes after his dreams. He doesn't let anyone really influence his decisions. Things that I wanted for myself for a very long time, but can't do due to a lot of factors and bec. of letting people dictate how I live my life. Hearing him go on with these things, inspires me to take care of myself too in that aspect, my own happiness. Thank you Jae. Just keep doing you! We love you!

As a fan of got7 and B.I(stilll new), i have observed these guys are very real, and they are always telling it that no they are not perfect. In fact,I think many other idols speak about this, about being imperfect, their insecurities but then go back to the facades bcoz the companies told them to. Still leaving jyp for got7 and yg for b.i has given them so much freedom they seem genuinely happy!!

I love how Ambika gave exactly right questions for Jae to tell the whole story without missing any point. This interview gave us a lot better explanation about the duality of being an idol and human being at the same time. I wish a lot of 'misperception' about how he fight for himself as a person with 'normal life' and what he tries to explain over and over for the almost past 2 years will be diminished. Thank you Ambika and Femina India. Love you Jae! You and DAY6 always got my support and prayer ❤️

Really enjoyed this conversation :) Ambika had excellent questions that let Jae speak out about everything he's been holding back. It's so great to see him so liberated, I think that prioritising his mental wellbeing has done him a world of good. While a lot of us fans find comfort in K-idols - by forgetting our worries through listening to their music and watching their videos, I don't think that this requires us to put them on a pedestal of perfection. Once we recognise one another as fallible human beings, we can seek comfort in each other instead of judging people against a yardstick of unrealistic expectations.

I do research in idol-ness and idol performance and that's a subject I'm very passionate about. I'm also a fan of Day6 and I adore Jae but I feel like I failed to support him properly at times. One of the negative impacts of keeping a clean public image is that everyone is bound to fail at some point (everyone) and the public doesn't know how to extend mercy towards people under the spotlight. Even myself, a person whose area of study involves the performance of idol-ness (i.e. never breaking character, like Jae correctly put it), at times I failed to acknowledge that he had decided to take steps that would inevitably lead to him making very public mistakes, as a natural part of the process of doing what he felt was right. People should be held accountable for the bs they do but people love holding others accountable for failing their expectations of integrity and coherence when no one is coherent 24/7. Just as my favourite mystic philosopher Simone Weil points out, we must forgive others the debt of not being who we think they are. We aren't what we think ourselves to be, just the same. To know this is forgiveness. Now, celebrity culture is a double-edged sword for people who want to make a living out of their art, because there is very little middle ground between succeeding and struggling. I pray that Jae will eventually find a comfortable, somewhat stable place on which to stand, because it isn't easy. I understand his parents' advice because parents would always encourage us to pursue stability because they cannot stand to see us shaken or failing. I'm a person who doesn't take many risky steps without making sure I have all the necessary security which is why I find it hard to understand when people just go for what they believe in, like Jae did/does, so while that is the reason why I usually make the mistake of being too judgey at first, I will eventually come to realise I need to learn how to trust my gut even if it means taking biggers risks and setting myself for the risk of failing miserably afterwards. Now, I don't want Jae to fail whatsoever, but, as a fellow believer, I always pray that, if he does, he'll still be okay with having gone for it. Regret cuts deeper than disappointment. Damn this got LONG but LASTLY, I'd like to point out that, as someone who loves and very much respects idol-ness and idol performance and the people who pull it, I enjoy the way Jae points out the problems and the things he couldn't play along to without disrespecting his peers or trying to come across as better than them for trying to break that mold. Especially when he acknowledges the cultural differences. I respect this dude a lot and I really just want him to be happy and content with his own choices and if we get good, enjoyable music out of it... Even better! ^^

I'm so thankful that Jae is so passionate about talking about the "imperfect" sides of him and idol life. As Jae says, I also hope that people will realize that idols are human too. Idols can go on and enjoy their own lives. Idols can also struggle with mental issues as well. They just have to appear like they are fine. So please, everyone be kind, respectful, and understanding to idols and yourselves. Thank you Ambika Muttoo for interviewing Jae! This interview is very insightful and I appreciate how attentive you are to Jae.

Thanks to eaJ I enjoyed G7 being human and made me feel so much happy knowing they were going to be fine and they were going be more free to feel human again, make mistakes, not being able to know all, feel down but still raise up and work hard. Thabk Jae for your twitches sincerly. You deserve the world , and to be real, and just you.

I loved this interview. Jae looked so happy and free. Opening up about mental health is critical and certainly needs to be faced. There have been several things idols ending their own lives and we can’t just bury our heads in the sand and pretend their isn’t mental health struggles don’t exist in idols lives. They are real people with real struggles just like all of us. Can’t we enjoy their talents and support them and stand by them as they live their lives too?! Way to go Jae. I love him and support him fully. ❤️

This is a good freakin interview! 🔥🙏🏼 Not sure what is happening but im glad Jae (and Day6?) are free now. Im really happy that their Idol days are over, im not really a fan of that side of their life cu’z like he said they were just products made to be “perfect” therefore we cant really relate to them, but when we get to see who they truly are that’s where we get to relate to them the most. Can’t stand those fans treating these idols as gods… I like considering them more as an artist, they’re more inspirational that way cu’z we can also achieve being on that status. Just appreciate their work, and keep supporting them, and stop worshiping em like a bunch of wacks. This why im so happy Got7 got out. We get to see how happy they are, we get to see the things they’ve been wanting to do, we’ll get to see more of their human side. One of the reasons why I like Got7 the most is how they are popular yet underrated at the same time, I love how they were just low key and grounded (and their friendship is relatable af). I wanna see the more recognition they deserve but at the same time I dont want to see em at the top… cu’z im afraid that they’ll also become like every popular kpop out there. Ahgase is such a beautiful fandom, one of the best. And if ever Got7 become more popular, im sure more toxic fans will infiltrate the fandom. And I DONT WANT THAT! This made me more appreciate Jae. Im still new to Day6, and im freakin loving their songs! But this interview made me wanna check out more of Jae’s works! He’s one of my fav singers in kpop industry, one of the best vocalist among with his bandmates, Got7’s vocals and many more.

On the part of idol image where people can have a realization that our idols are not perfect and it's okay for me not to be perfect too, maybe another thing that will happen once it's normalised is with the way we treat other people and these idols as well, which is also important to end this perfection stigma. So much hope for a healthier environment. I hope we get there Edit: I personally pointed it out because of my own experience, as an over achiever since elementary and high school, then landed on a decent and popular university. While I did everything for my own goals and dreams and being rewarded more than expected, there are people who will build expectations of you. That you also get ridiculed or treated poorly when they see you fall from the person they thought as you. Even being branded as boastful when you just point things out from a concern. My first realization was when I fell off the class rank from 1 to 2. I was shamed by my parent for it, publicly. So when I went to college, I became more secretive about the things I achieve in order to crash those expectations from me and maybe keep it that way. But then just the fact that I attended a popular university is something to be bragged about and to get standards of you built with. Until now that I'm working, it feels as if, I can't slack off, make mistakes, fall down, get distracted like normal people (Sneak into my life: I did and their reactions and treatments of me are the mentioned above. That is why it can be so frustrating). Expectations are good at a certain degree, especially since it can help us too. But expectations that are accompanied with standards of you gives unnecessary pressure, especially when you must be dealing pressures on your own already. These are the reasons why I just applaud and appreciate people that achieves something and not say to them straight in a tone that might trigger additional pressure, not confidence. People around me, even strangers, because I do not know what they are going through or if what they go through includes these things. I don't want to be the person who will add them higher standards to maintain and more pressure than they are already feeling. My experience and understanding of my experience made me be careful with the way I treat other people. I do the same for idols.

Enjoyed this video, and that's one thing I like about Jae, he speaks his truth. The idol industry is very sad and what I mean by that they won't let the idols be themselves. They wear mask, and then the mental health issues kick in. Korea seems to turn their back on mental health issues, because they seem to believe in perfection as a whole. A lot of these idols are suffering, and one of the reasons suicide is so high in Korea. Proud of Jae, will continue to listen to his music and support. One question, is he no longer with JYP? He said he was free?? Just wondering.
