Always enjoy watching the picker. We did wide rows, and a mounted IHC picker on a M. Husks weren't a problem. If we did Shell any the husks got tossed into a pen as bedding. We allowed the Holsteins to glean the corn stalks for a few weeks. Made plowing easier. You do things similar to what we did 60 years ago. A dirty tractor is field ready.

😂 yeah we are kinda out dated we are trying to get newer or just better shape equipment but the farm got so behind it’s gonna take a long time I never plan to have new equipment I like the old but I definitely need to get better and start rebuilding a tractor every couple years to stay in business but it’s expensive and we always end up needing something else

I always enjoy watching what you are doing, and really could care less if your equipment is dirty.....that means it’s earning its keep! My brother would wash his 1486 every Sunday, I never washed my 5020.....and they were both dirty on Monday 😂 If you restore the 560 someday.....fantastic!.....but you are taking good care of it. Great video showing us all your steps.....I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ear corn wagon as perfectly filled as the one you showed.

Another interesting one! Yeah, my Dad taught me young to slowly engage things like that, like the cutter blade drive belt and the clutch on our Snapper riding mower. When I hear neighbors just slamming their mower in with the belt screaming in pain, I cringe. But of course, as a kid I did my share of popping the clutch on it to do wheelies. 😃

One time I wanted to do a huge one, so I let it roll backward down an incline, then popped it while in 5th gear (5-speed). I swear that thing was 45° up in the air. I had no desire to do that again.

Love watching all your projects. Work around a farm or ranch never ends. Watching makes me think of growing up in central Illinois. As a adult living on the west coast have kept my hand in ag by raising project lambs up until a few years ago. Now just have a couple of Hereford heifers that we are breeding for freezer steers. Your calves look really good. Balanced nutrition is so important to healthy, growing calves. Keep up the good work. Love all your vintage tractors. Sean

@@knappfarms i sell a few every month for $1/ lb off the farm for fresh butchers. Mostly cuban and mexicans, some guys buy them for deer mixing meat. Found a guy buying a pot load evey 3 or 4 weeks thats $.10-20 over market for them. Im just starting to get feeders that meet his program, so i wont be selling any commercially till spring. I was breeding mulefoots, they are great eating and will grow on nothing, but you cant give em away at a sale barn.
@knappfarms
@knappfarms 2 жыл бұрын
The market we would have is we sell all our beef as freezer beef by the 1/4 so a lot of those customers would probably also buy a 1/2 a hog every year just have to determine if it economical or if we should just get more cattle I like being diverse though
@Bojangles6
@Bojangles6 2 жыл бұрын
@@knappfarms you cant beat direct sales. If you have the customers and the butcher already lined up, rasing them is the easy part. When grain is cheap its nice to be able to feed more of it. I dont raise any corn but i buy it at like $.25 over cash price from a neighbor to grind it. Saves me money and saves him hauling it. I get a few bushels a week of spent grain from a local brewery too for free. That, some ground corn, dgs and hog concentrate makes for pretty cheap feed and they do great on it.
@knappfarms
