The album is really experimental in it’s production so it’s hit or miss for a lot of people but minimalist hip hop production makes for really interesting trippy sounding beats and Earl executed the minimalist beats on SRS really well. As far as his rhymes their is tons of figurative language on here. Allusions, similes, metaphors, all of that is on this tape you just gotta listen closer. It’s not like old Earl but it’s still dope 💯.

@inyrui inyrui I mean hey man, to each their own. But I personally disagree. His delivery has always sounded a lil lazy, at least since Doris, and hes always loved using minimalism in beats. Those were qualities in his music I liked since day 1. Its true, this is definitely his weirdest album and hardest to get into. But when I listen to this record I'm not coming to it for intrucate bars or hype beats. I come to it for the ambiance it serves, which is about battling depression/suicidal thoughts in the wake of tragedy. I think Earl's grown as a man and musician since he came back from Samoa and his progression to here makes sense to me. It's not his obligation to us as fans to stagnate and make the same kind of music forever just for nostalgia sake or w/e. No disrespect family I can just tell you at least appreciate his old stuff so thought I'd share a different opinion with you.

I’m trying to like this project. But I just can’t dig this. Doom or Kool Keith could maybe rock this, I feel Earl took on beats he can’t handle. Love his previous work, to bad this album isn’t for me. People are comparing it to Madvillainy, but I think that album is milestones ahead of this project.

I don't really agree w the madvillain comparison album wise, but I like the project a lot. Gives the vibe that you're traveling thru his mind. Lazy, hazy, downtrodden, but hopeful. The flows aren't his best ones but they compliment these beats very well, just in a non-traditional way, especially on this song. Lyrically, Earl is still untouched amongst his peers and others his age, even if you don't dig the flows. Give it a little time.

I never really gave it a second thought until I read your comment just now, it took me a minute to figure it out too. My initial gut feeling was 3/4 because my brain keeps hearing "123 123", but that doesn't work. Then I counted "123 123 12", I'm pretty sure that's the easiest way to count it. So in a weird roundabout way it's actually 4/4? Or I guess 8/8 would be more accurate? I know very little music theory so I'm not 100% sure which one it would be considered, I'm thinking 8/8 though.
