I wanted to take a look back on a weird time for TV in the early stages of interactive TV. Specifically the gaming side and a part that I hold fond memories of. I discuss the Winky dink show, the Sega channel, and the Dish Network's own PlayinTV channel. As well as explain the significance of these earlier years to me.

I used to feel the same. The cure for me was to just stop looking for/caring about what anyone has to say about a game (or really any piece of media) and just engaging with it as it is. It's brought a lot of joy back into my life.

There used to be a pizza place that had little TVs in the booths, and either a Sega Genesis or SNES. You could put quarters in and play games at the booth, but it kind of sucked because they attached the controllers to the tables so you couldn't really play anything very well.

I remember Sega Channel, it would let you save progress of one game at a time only and if you save your progress in any other game it would overwrite the save from the first game.

@@yriaddairy Hi,just wanna say that the last part you were talking about what a dark tunnel life as an adult really is...as someone who just recently started being an adult...I can somewhat already just relate because I fear that I won't be able to live the life I was promised as an adult and that it'll continue getting worse...either way great video,liked subbed and hope to see more✌️

These kind of game services was more popular in UK and Europe than US. UK had Sky Gamestar and Playjam,Cartoon Network/BBC/Nickelodeon had their own under the Red Button services. Some of the games was free most you pad to pay a phone call to unlock rest of gamne after demo which you had to each time you turned the game off. Most of these games are lost Media but the Developer Genki who made alot got them running on PC's for free in Browser. I even had Video footage of the Cable and Wireless.NTL ones on a VHS tape but lost the VHS tape.

Mega Man Wily Wars was a Sega Channel Exclusive and has a save system Nintendo's counterpart to it, Satellaview, had zelda games that would save your progress and even transfer it between roms

just finished watching -- absolutely outstanding work. I got really emotional watching it too--but not just from the ending. I didn't work on any of those games, but as a game dev in general, knowing that even a silly little shovelware game could bring that much joy to someone in their childhood makes it all worth it. Even the stuff that's lost media now, the fact that it lives on in your heart is this really wonderful human connection between the people that made the game and you who actually remembers it and the fondness for the time spent playing it. I'm still in the tunnel myself, but sometimes i think that the light we're all headed towards is simply other people and those little moments of connection. Thank you for keeping the memory of those games alive and for making such a lovely video, I can't wait to see more of your work!

The one I remember playing the most was American dragon Jake long, It was fun, childlike wonder huh? Yeah I miss that too. YESSSS YOU MENTIONED JAKE LONG HAHAHA I LOVE YOU!! Damn. almost like you're inside my head. I'm tired too

You forgot the Satellaview too. It was only in Japan, and it was an add-on for the Super Famicom that broadcasted games. I know there was a partial remake of Zelda 1 on there, as well as a spinoff to A Link to the Past. There were other Satellaview games, many of them are lost, unfortunately.

This still looks a generation newer hardware wise than the games I remember playing (when they did free demo periods occasionally) on Canal Digital (now Allente) here in Sweden as a kid. Those primitive TV boxes (we would've gotten the first one in 2001 I believe) were potato enough that the games didn't even have any sound of their own, just a loop (which I guess might've been streamed off the satellite somehow since it played even on the loading screen IIRC) of So Easy by Röyksopp which played the entire time you were in that "games" menu system/channel for some reason. Took me years to find the song.

I remember playing Game Lounge here and there after watching Boomerang the games were nothing special but I loved playing these short simple games I hope one day the Lost Media Community will some how preserve and archive these games somehow I would like to play these small simple games again

I remember when I was younger I used to just mute all the games then mess around until the music playing on the menu screen (usually random radio hits from the time) would also play during the games. I felt so proud of myself at the time lmao.

Wow man, you grew up fast. The amount of phases of thinking, and their points of reference is crazy over the years. There are so many veils you have to learn how to pull away each one, to really understand the place you're in.

I remember playing some of these games one of my favorites was moko moko as i called it but i believe it was moko 2030? Anyway, yes it was a fun time having these games on Tv i had kind forgotten about it and i saw a video recently on how Japan also had games on tv for some games like Zelda and it didn't click with me how we also had similar stuff till i watched this!
