This is great! My Aunt and Uncle used to take me to Arlingon Stadium to stock car racing around this time. It looks a bit slow by present day but it was real exciting....a shame you can't hear them....they were LOUD! I remember the same starter guy in the boot of the Jag and the winning driver standing in there with him for a lap of honour......Brilliant!

Terrific stuff. Thanks for putting it up. Takes me back to the days when Arlington was dirt with that corrugated iron fencing. The golden days!!

This is my favourite stock car footage on YT It has absolutely everything from leaving home, then having a pic-nic,the kids climbing over the cars..a real family having fun day out. Then the actual race footage, it just can't be beaten..all that's missing from this footage is swinging safari. This is when stock cars were fun! I was at a race recently at Nutt's corner near Belfast. and heard a mother shouting "go on son kill the b*****d"..that was the last race i went to see, it sickened me.

Fantastic early film around the time when I started going to see Spedeworth stocks at New Cross and Wimbledon. Classic stuff and I remember the Jaguar start car with I believe Jumbo "Golden Bowler" Allen the start marshal. He I believe went to South Africa to promote the racing there. Great footage. Check out my 8mm film from the nearby Cross in Hand Oval taken in 1971. ( "Stock Car racing at X in Hand 1971")

Fantastic video! I too thought Arlington had always been concrete!
@nicnak44755 жыл бұрын
The shale track was used for speedway as well , think it was concreted in the mid 60's guessing 67 .

Hadacol Boogie is the tune .. high alcohol content made it a very popular laxative ☺ I recall these days well - some of the best action was in the pits after the race.

looks like old time stockcar racing in New Zealand...we just wrapped the bumpers and side rails right round em and let the drivers take each other out thru the race..lol..you wanna see it now!!

This looks pretty much like the stock car races we had here in Sweden from the mid to late 50´s. The only major difference is that the wast majority of the cars were US made. Hate to think about all this beutiful cars getting detroyed, but they where not worth more than penneys back then.....I know my dad bought a really nice ´36 Dodge in 1957, he paid something like $20.00 for it...I still have the "Ram" hood ornament, and it´s nice condition. The car served him and his friends for a year...

Hey Nick Is it definitely Frank Betts and not Frank Bettis ? as i knew a Frank Bettis who did speedway at the pilot field and wondered if he did stock cars as well ? he had a car showroom in Hastings also a daughter and a son , I started going to Arlington in the early 60's and remember Aubrey (Foxy) Dance , great vid thanks for posting :o)
@NickPettitt5 жыл бұрын
It could be Bettis, I borrowed the film from Ron Cowey who was his mechanic and he told me the name which I could have misheard. Need to find an old programme to check the spelling
@nicnak44755 жыл бұрын
His stock car at the back either says Frank Betts Auto's or Frank Bettis Auto's ( which was Franks trading name) i'm quite intrigued now as I knew Frank well , I know his son Ross and will ask him if I see him :o) thanks .

@@nicnak4475 I've just asked the question on the 'BriSCA heritage drivers and supporters' group on Facebook and Paul Hugget has comfirmed it is Bettis... I've corrected the video description :)

Used to love watching stock car racing at Long Eaton with my parents in the 60's, so exciting. I cannot watch it now when its on TV because of the daft-looking wings on the roof, ridiculous! Stupid decision made by someone.

Nowadays these cars are worth an absolute *_nothing_* Why haven’t they appreciated? You can still probably get an Austin 7 for under 7k
