There’s another sump alarm we like to use, has a similar two prong sensor but it’s tiny and has a suction cup in the back side. I stick it to the top of my spin float sump tank, for that one time the float switch doesn’t work.

Great video Bob! I really like that you always share your hacks and knowledge to help others! So many people in this world aren’t willing to do that. Some of the old time beekeepers wouldn’t dare tell their hacks or share their knowledge. You and a lot of others I know have turned that around, myself and many other folks appreciate this new movement and I believe Hive Life is playing a big part in that along with you! I hope you have a very happy Father’s Day!

A lot of people are having problems with queens this year getting mated and start laying. I had 1 to take almost a month to get going. My honey crop will be about normal for me with 12 strong colonies. The alarm can be made with a 12v backup beeper or light. Really a great idea 💡 ❤️🐝

Queen cells are in . Picked up at 7:30 in by 8:10 I split out a frame of brood with capped brood and no eggs or larvae for each of 6 splits and shook 2 frames of bees in each i also put in 3 frames of capped honey and a frame of wet honey and pollen in each . When i opened the spits they obviously knew they were queenless they were howling like mad . This should make them happy I hope these carnolians are as pleasant as the swarm fr last year it is so calm i havent worn any ppe working them . That left the donor hive with 5 frames of open brood and 2huge double sided capped brood .🎉 Its weird you do all you can to make these little bugs succed and it is totaly rewarding !🙂

Great video, I liked that you showed the Basswood tree so closely, I don't have them in my area of SW Missouri. It's pretty neat to see some of the commercial side of things and a frame extractor like that. The comment about the one yard with low bee residence is what worries me, I'm trying to trap feral colony swarms from outside my three mile radius to bring some back into my area. I went two years without seeing a honeybee on my cucumber vines and just stopped growing them because of the low output, like 20% of what I usually got, the native bees just weren't doing what the honeybees had been doing, same conditions by the way. I don't want to buy a package of bees because I've seen too many horror stories and I'm not sure who I can trust. And another complication is that I'm going with insulated Layens hives, with our temperature swings in my area I think they would just do better, 100 in the summer to Neg. 0 at times in the winter.

I had been a strange flow year to say the least. I'm surprised the clover has did as well as it has this year cause we haven't had any rain till recently. I noticed that the black locust has put blooms on again, not like they do in April with a big cluster, but a small one. I believe it has something to do with being in an agricultural community. I noticed a few years ago that when my apple tree got drift on it, it put on a secondary bloom after it recovered. Herbicide gives trees a slow death, like it kills them in half lives. I totally understand what you mean when you talk about not wanting your bees around all that agriculture, there are a lot of chemicals sprayed in our area.

Hi Bob in general how many times can someone split a colony in a year. Just curious on an estimate. I’m trying to figure out how many split I could make of say 10 colonies. And when focusing on splits do you still get a significant amount of honey?
@bobbinnie9872

Hi Bob, You've featured a Hive Lifting extended arm device in an earlier video and many beekeepers opt to manage full & empty box movement that way. With the weight of either full brood sized supers to small supers, at what point would you consider bringing in this form of mechanical aid which is able to self level/balance? I ask this question as your video shows boxes being carried. Video, lovely locations, well organised anticipated flow and the managed separation of honey sources to meet the storage gathering. Very well explained, thank you.
@bobbinnie9872
@bobbinnie9872 Жыл бұрын
A lift would certainly be helpful but in many of our yards it wouldn't work well because of the terrain. It would probably only work in about 50% of our yards so I'll probably never get one.
