1:09:53 of the twenty-four 5-0 leagues on the Legacy playlist on the channel, four feature Phyrexian Dreadnought, tied with Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow. Uro, Titan of Nature's Wrath is actually the most represented big payoff threat card in all trophy leagues, featuring in six lists, although in two of those it's alongside Dreadnought in Stiflenought shells and in one it's part of a more low to the ground RUG Delver list, rather than just "pure" Bant control strategies. Depending on how hard you want to define "archetype-defining", it's either Uro or a tie between Dreadnought and Yuriko for most represented card for 5-0s.

(replying since YT isn't letting me edit the comment) I'm probably missing some that aren't outright titled with "undefeated". The Spunky control challenge from January 2022 also converted a 5-0 with Uro, raising his trophy representation count to seven, and also making it a three-way tie between Uro control piles, Dreadnought, and Yuriko.

I really like these sorts of A+B combo decks where A and B are not dead draws without one another. Every combo piece except dreadnought works on its own here. Ps Game 1 against reanimator had me laughing my ass of.

If Doomsday + Mind's Desire becomes a deck, it will either be called Doom's Desire or something stupid like Chocolate Granola. Congrats on the trophy and the greater prize of 27/27 Varolz!

If it gets called Doom’s Desire, I pray it ends up being called “Jirachi.” (Jirachi is a legendary Pokémon whose signature move is Doom Desire.) Naming a Magic deck after a Pokémon would be *chef’s kiss* Jirachi is also known as the Wishmaker, so we’d then need to make a Grixis variant with Burning Wish.

Boshhhhhh!! Thanks again for playing the deck man. This was a wild ride and lot of fun to watch haha. I’ve been seriously considering getting into legacy recently, and Varolz shadow/naught was the deck I was considering. I still thinks there’s a ton of space to explore with this idea, but it feels really good to know that the skeleton of this deck is really strong. Makes me feel a lot better buying in to it as my first legacy deck haha. So glad I could submit an idea that gave you some interesting play patterns. So glad we got to see a 27/27 Varolz. Nothing is better than a maniacal cackle after the deck gets to do the thing! The list looks super fun to play, even if it was stuck just being Deaths Shadow post board a lot.

@41:50 the cavern on wizard makes me think there's a Thassa's Oracle in the deck to be able to win around Veil of Summer after exiling the deck to Mind's Desire EDIT: watched further. Doomsday too is neat.

Last week you played against a UB high tide deck and I left a comment saying that someone should build that deck with Thassa's Oracle. Seeing Tendrils, Mind's Desire, and Cavern on wizard made me think someone was crazy enough to do it! Watching literally 2 minutes more and it appears they're just a storm deck that swaps to doomsday post board. :(

For all the issues I had with Dragon's Maze, Varolz is so much fun to build/play with. He was my hands down mvp at that prerelease with 2 copies in my sealed pool.

Is it possible to stiffle the dress down trigger and just permanent kill creature abilities? I ask because that might have outright won you the game in the match where they had knight/safekeeper onboard.

You can stifle the sacrifice trigger on dress down but it will keep triggering each end step after that

Yeah there are deckbuilding conventions and then there is understanding deckbuilding. All of those effects have been replaced with on-theme versions of cards that fill their roles.

Awesome brew and finish. Fatal Push/Dismember are not worth maindecking. There is no point in playing removal for small threats when your threats are all so much bigger and faster. Bowmasters, Daze, Brazen Borrower, Slip or more Stifles and Noughts are all better alternatives to Push/Dismember.

I’m sure Dismember is partly there for life loss, and, with black so heavily represented in the format right now, Snuff Out isn’t a free roll. Fatal Push might still be important with Grixis Delver being a major metagame player. 🤔

To put Varolz in the title is definitely misleading. One With Nothing could have been in that slot and just as impactful since you can pitch it to Grief.

Always team Solidarity, but that feels a bit heavy on the sauce, even for my taste. It looked waaaay too loaded on mana value, sure Sail into the West can be decent for you when resolving, but I think that becomes win more if you can even get off the ground. It could also just load up your opponent on hate. It is an interesting concept, but I prefer a much more spry list - build up more storm with less mana. Also didn’t see enough to really grasp the entire list, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Not really a fan of the splash color Solidarity personally.
