There are signs that Earth's great stores of ice on Greenland and Antarctica are beginning to melt in the wake of rising sea surface temperatures. With sea levels beginning to rise, scientists are looking back at past geological ages to understand the influence of ocean currents and other factors. They are searching for insights into where our planet may be headed a millennium into the future.

Imagine being a climate scientist, devoting your life to going to greenland. Take measurements, make good 3D models. Collaborate with space scientists to make observations from space etc. All of your work is done with pretty shitty pay, compared with what you would get going private and making us click on more ads. Then, years later all your hard work will be used in politics where one side say: "OMG WE'RE DEAD IN 10 YEARS" and the other "NICE PROPAGANDA" Eff all of you that just jump in a ditch like a mindless npc. Thanks spacerip for your hard work over the years putting out high quality content on youtube where everyone else is busy posting mindless shit that is only making us dumber. I remember watching your content when in college over 10 years ago and the fact that you still make this great content is awesome.

This video is cr*p. CO2 is not a problem and never has been. No display of graphs of ice cover area from prominent arctic research institutes. Yes, ice cover fluctuates over the years. The Ice Hockey stick graph turned about to be a fraud and institutes were shown to have massaged data to fulfill a political idea, not a scientific one.

You can't predict the future. Definitely not through data projections. However you can study the past and what that tells us is that there has been much bigger variations in climate throughout human history. In the time that homo sapiens have lived in Europe both Woolly mammoths and Hippopotamus have settled for prolong periods in England. And it's not like these were over vast time spans. Climate has shifted massively sometimes within a few decades.

This cycle is perfectly capable to handle us EXCEPT the excess carbon we put back into the cycle via mining it. We made changes which require hundreds or thousands of years to handle.

Same here. I spent my teens and 20's in Michigan. We had feet of snow all winter. Thanksgiving and Christmas were white. The lake completely froze as far as you could see in winter and never got above 40 degrees in summer (we actually got to cool off when we went swimming). I just spent a year up there. We had barely a few inches of snow. It was not what Michigan considers cold. Christmas was rainy. The lake didn't freeze at all in winter and felt like bath water in late May. In the past, we didn't dare go swimming before July because the lake didn't completely thaw until the end of April.

They froze instantly when rivers froze then the tilting of the earth just put ice on top of those rivers. Then when the rivers unfroze under the insulated ice the fish were freed. Now how long can a fish live but be frozen will tell you all how long this has been.

@JohnToolan-oz6gx no, it’s completely natural regardless of humans being involved or not. My argument is, is people focus on the impact of humans while not understanding it’s happening regardless. We will never stop it, just delay it. The idea that we can stop it is goofy. Earth has had far worse rises and falls on its own with zero humans on the planet. Sure, we can do things to slow it down and I’m all for it. People just got to stop pretending it’s gonna fix anything long term.

More important then the arctic, is the role of Antarctica moving back to the south pole to reglaciate like in the karoo ice age. This is what reduced the CO2.

@JohnToolan-oz6gx The only way that I see, is to do CO2 removal from the atmosphere on a huge scale. It is possible if the nations of the world act together in a WW2 type of effort. But, what are the odds of that happening?? Global warming will have to be so advanced that it is obvious to everyone. CO2 will be at 500 ppm by 2050, and sea level will be rising by inches every year. Maybe then. BUT -- the loss of Greenland and WAIS will likely be unavoidable, meaning a minimum of 70 ft ocean rise. A lot of places still gone --- BUT - the real horror of a Global Anoxic Event may be averted. Do you want me to tell you about that???

Temperature rises cause CO2 rises. That's why we're seeing so many positive feedback mechanisms start to engage now - we put CO2 into the atmosphere and that started raising the temperature, the rising temperature released more CO2, the extra CO2 made it even hotter.. Don't worry, though. Once it gets above 1000ppm CO2 the whole population of humans will get too stupid to care about what we did to ourselves. CO2 is a brain poison!

You are aware that the notions of "western Antarctica" and "eastern Antarctica" make absolutely no fucking damn sense so near the south pole? The only reason they're called that is because of the Euro-centric standard map of the world, in such a way that the bit with the tip is closer to the left part of the map, and the other one to the right edge, but, you're aware that Japan is west of the USA, right? even if you would have to go east on the map. So yes, calling it west and east so close to the pole makes no sense. If you go west or east there, you end up running (or sledding) in circles.

The Ice Age came from the Land masses separating. This made the canopy drop causing the atmosphere to expand. To anyone who does not know what "expanding atmospheric pressure" would do it's like holding the trigger down on a can of key board duster the can gets cold right. So would the earth freeze. Now this would not be enough to freeze whole rivers in place with fish swimming alone like normal then they are frozen instantly. The ring of fire exploded upwards blasting tons of seawater into the atmosphere causing giant slabs of super cold Hail that blanketed the earth. This Hail fell into the rivers, along with expanding atmosphere caused rivers to freeze from the bottom up instantly.

The first event was the ring of fire ripping and taring through the crust allowing separation of the continents and the other event was the asteroid strikes that according to Science "Killed the dinosaurs". All these events was the same single event that reconfigured the entire world as the weight shifted around the planet the earth tilts back on it's axis. This is why no sunlight hits the North Pole or South tricking Science into thinking an massive Ice Age lasted for billions of years when the ice age happened with this other events I have mentioned. Rapid Freezing. I could keep going. But I will let this all sink in.

@@ProfezorSnayp anyone with a brain knows that this video promotes mostly one view. The video cites lots of fact, but also along with lots of possibilities/what if's/maybe's/theories/beliefs. Concentrates on/highlights/closeup graphics on areas dramatically melting --while negating to commit the same amount of time to areas that have actually had increased ice buildups. Nothing about countries that would actually benefit from warmer temperatures & changes in ocean currents, like Russia, Africa, Norway, Sweden, Afghanistan, and others. So, you want him to do all that work going back through the video, doing research and and then citing examples, just to prove/appease himself to you? He need not waste his time. He owes you no explanation of his response.
@derikwww
@derikwww 22 күн бұрын
Just ignore the evidence? You mean, some of the evidence. There's a lot more evidence out there, not just the evidence you agree with. Stating facts while omitting other facts is not a fair and balanced video. Remember this-- >>>Evidence can contribute to conclusions. There is no blanket statement that evidence makes something true, or that evidence makes something false>>> Also, go back through the video and listen how many times he uses the words possibility/theory/maybe/what if/how plausible/might affect/could conclude/could threaten/could force/uncertainty/predict? The narrator knows that he can't speak in absolutes/because in many cases, there's no "definitive proof". That doesn't mean what he's saying is wrong--a lot is factual, but a lot is scientific guessing. There's a lot of other facts that were omitted. Obviously you can't include ALL of the facts in a 45 minute video, but it's not balanced. If you're going to cite theories and possibilities, but leave out other theories and possibilities because it doesn't fit your agenda, then you're not doing a proper service to your viewers.

(And perhaps then you can also explain to me why you would choose to spend even one instant of your time on this earth as an unpaid volunteer propagandist for fossil fuel billionaires.) As to “rights” - well, as is often the case it’s a matter of deciding whose rights take precedence. The ‘right’ of fossil fuel magnates to frack and drill their way to resources they had nothing to do with creating, and the ‘right’ of unpaid volunteers like yourself to strut and own the libs, or the right of the rest of us and our descendants to exist in a functional biosphere. It’s not looking so good for the rest of us at the moment, but we’ll see.

@John-gq7vt
@John-gq7vt 22 күн бұрын
Three reasons believing in a 6000 year old universe doesn't make sense: (1) The bible doesn't claim that the universe is 6000 years old. (2) The bible doesn't say it's contents can be used to calculate the age of the universe. (3) The bible itself doesn't claim it's contents are literal. That age was calculated by one man, James Escher, using his interpretation of biblical content. So "young earth creationists" place their trust in one man rather than centuries of evidence produced by millions of trained, educated scientists. Escher vs. All of Science. Smart.
