Dry surface waterproof bags are just that, they are not supposed to be summerged under water. You would require a much more expensive technically designed bag for that. Normally you would place items such as towels, clothing ect. in the bag, force all the air out and then seal, roll up and clip together (in very cold conditions, i.e. wild camping). However if I'm kayaking and the possibility of kayak turning over, then I would connect bags to kayak (so they don't float off), I would purposely leave some air in bag to allow max float ability. That is how a surface waterproof dry bag is to be used (ie surface water floating, not submerged)! kind regards

I just purchased one and when I tested it, the interior lining was completely wet. I didn't put anything inside. I was careful to fold the top down several times as instructed. I may have to send the bag back. I don't understand why there isn't a dry proof closure at the top and then we could roll the top down as instructed for extra protection. As it is, it doesn't work and I cannot recommend it. at this time. Also, there was no letter from the company inside the vinyl cover the bag was in. I would like to have the company's information so I can contact them to see if I am doing something wrong or if I will have to return the product.

Thanks! I did and they responded very quickly. I was very pleased with their response. Here's part of what they wrote: "In order for the top to seal and for the bag to be airtight, it's recommended to fill the bag not less than half, but not more than 3/4 full. What I recommend is that you put a bath towel in it to test, and roll the top a minimum of 3 times before clipping it shut. It's ideal to roll it as close to the top of the contents as you can, making sure it's as airtight as you can get. To test, you can put it in the bathtub, submerge it from side to side and up and down, and then check the contents of the bag." The bag I purchased is too large for my needs and I had just put the empty bag with the top folded several times, in a tub of water. So it was my bad. I hope this info will help other newbies!
