Honestly despite the ridiculous premise of this film, they did show class divide pretty well, and are pretty damn realistic with how the world's elite and governments would react. 100% they'd leave us all to die while they hide away in a bunker or in this case, build giant ships capable of withstanding country-destroying tsunamis.

The San Andreas fault mega quake 10.9 as stated but not possible as the fault can only produce up to a 8.3(XII intensity)Also other faults seem to get activated like the Puente Hills Fault, and Newport-Inglewood fault as sections of the LA Basin split. Also it's stated the major faults in the San Francisco bay area get activated too. 3. South American 8.5 earthquakes(X+ intensity) 4. The Japan earthquake 9.0+(X+ shaking intensity) 5. Washington DC earthquake 9.4 even though there are no faults in the Chesapeake Area.(IX intensity as the ground doesn't shake that much despite the magnitude) 6. Vatican Earthquake 7.0-8.0(IX intensity) 7. The rest of the earthquakes produced by the shifting crust are at the intensity of the chicxulub asteroid impact earthquake 66 million years ago which produced a whopping 13 magnitude earthquake, and produced mile high tsunamis, but this isn’t even possible anyway, because no fault or subduction zone could produce anything over a 10. Only something by impact like a landslide or asteroid could produce a tsunami of gigantic proportions.

Was the part where they were talking about how the plates are moving and creating gigantic tsunami's a deleted scene, it kind of feels like info like that would have been relevant in explaining the mega-tsunamis

Absolutely loved this movie! I'm so grateful I saw it in a THEATRE and not STREAMING on TV! The opening where LA is destroyed was quite intense. You could feel the anxiety in the audience, and I remember being a bit outta breathe myself! 😳🥺

2012 is a guilty pleasure movie of mines. But Theres a series on apple tv called extrapolations that to me is a mlre realistic 2012 though its set in a modern timline and ends in the 2070's but it shows a more gradually series of climate disasters and catastrophes like below sea level cities like nyc being flooded over the next 2 decades and air quality from wildfires and pollution causing babies to have lung and heart defects, all large animals extinct, poverty rampant, etc. A more scary look at a disasters cause its death by a thousand cuts where as this it was a super fantastical global disasters.

That last moment is just plain stupid, the dome would crumble instantly rather than roll like a giant ball!

There was an earthquake and tsunami in south america 3 monts after this films was released, it means that many people see this scenes and die in the same way 12 weeks later.

Also if Yellowstone erupted do you think it’s possible it could have a type of catalyst event and cause a fault (Either the San A. Or the other fault line off the coast of California) to rupture of go off? They’ve been saying we’re overdue by thousands of years for a mega earthquake, a super volcano eruption and a mega tsunami. And the longer it takes for the event to happen to more energy it will release - meaning it will be more impactful

This movie mad me so sad seeing how half of my species humanity just dies and only the rich and greedy get to live and a couple of others at least a happy family got to live another that made me sad was like in the video the Sistine Chapel and other historical human things just being destroyed all that work all that history all that meaning gone for ever

Y’all know there’s a fault line that’s in the middle of America. It’s inactive but it’s a fault that’s right in the middle of Iowa. I learned about it a longgg time ago because I live in iowa but if I remember correctly it’s a dud and I’m not sure it’s either never been active or was active hasn’t been active for millions of years.

with current earth events i would say earth is on track for these things which the movie eluded to, have to understand the making of movies is also in certain ways truth but given small bites were not shown everything, gives the audience something to think about, wether its true or not
