“You want people to be comfortable, which is why my studio looks like my bedroom when I was seventeen,” says Joe Barresi.
When it comes to mixing, Barresi reaches for his Afterneath Otherworldly Ambient Reverb.
“I was just like, manipulating it [the Afterneath] on a vocal, and it was creating these crazy harmonies, ‘cuz it was delayed, but they were sorta not exactly perfect ‘cuz I’m manipulating it, and it was the eeriest shit ever, man. It’s always out when I’m mixing. It’s out right now.”
Extra special thanks to Annie the Dog.

I had the pleasure of spending a day with Joe at his studio a while back and he's one of the most interesting and inspirational guys you'll ever meet if you're into music production. He has a legendary story for everything you look at and go "whoa, what is that?" just like in this video. He's not just a sound engineer and producer, he's a true artist and master of his craft.

I will never appreciate anything “modeled”. How anyone can claim it’s better than the original is way past my understanding. How can the modeled sound be better? It’s missing what makes the original what it is, fundamentally making it not as good. Even CDs are missing something that only analog has. I will not compromise my sound. Vinyl and analog all day baby.(as I push my strymon big sky out of view.- to be fair it’s the only digital pedal I own).

Lawnmower and Garden Supply Studio was opened by Kevin Gilbert... The man who wrote Sheryl Crows first and most popular album and founder of the Tuesday Night Music Club. When Sheryl hit it big with Kevin’s song “All I Wanna Do...” she fucked over Kevin and the rest of the TNMC who wrote these songs for her, by firing them and hiring different musicians for the tour to essentially be “the band” (a gig they were promised)... Kevin rightfully hated Sheryl and it was compounded by Sheryl’s habit of taking songwriting credit in the press. Kevin did get a bit of revenge when Disney was very insistent on using “All I Wanna Do...” in its advertising and Kevin would not sign off. Even though He and Sheryl would have made a ton of money off of it... In His last argument with Disney, he asked them if they even knew what the song was about. They said “sure, it’s about having fun”... Kevin said “No... Its about getting fucked up at 9 in the morning|..” and that was the end of that!.. Kevin passed away not long after that but his music was stellar and definitely worth a listen...
