It's an incredible time and labor saver! We are all about frugality here at Alderman Farms, but there are times when spending a little money is well worth it. This was one of those purchases.
We were able to plant FOUR times as many rows using the seeder as we could by hand in the same amount of time. We are pleased as punch. Get yours here: amzn.to/25hZi1M

Suggestion: When planting butterbeans or fordhooks use a 3 foot piece of 1.5 inch diameter pvc pipe to save your back. Just drop the beans down the pvc pipe as you walk while standing upright.

You bet! Used it again today to plant 14 more rows of corn in the "big garden," plus 4 rows of pink eye purple hull peas, and two rows of peanuts!! My only advice is make sure you get the little wheels that go with whatever you wish to plant. It came with six options, but we need to order a couple more. It's amazing how the simple design works so well, though. Glad we got it, for sure. Thank for taking the time to comment!

That is why I bought a Hoss stand alone high wheel planter as you can make your own plates for odd sized seed and spacing the options are endless, gave away my Earth way planter several years ago not strong enough, as got a Jr. Planter as a present but they had drawbacks couldn't make own plates, gave it to my best friend. Love my Hoss and have complete asst. of plates and a LG. asst. of blank plates have made 4 special plates plant sweet corn at 6 1/3" Each to his own the Earth way was okay for Sandy Loam, difficult on clay even with tilling with Troybilt Big Red. God Bless your Gardens!

+Alderman Farms that would be a good choice unless you work your soil very loose like mine then the stand alone is better I have 2 wheel hoe also with most of the attachments. There are 2 things you can do to improve the soil to the max, talk your neighbors out of their leaves in the fall and till them under. there is as much tree underground as above and they store trace elements in their leaves from down deep in the earth. You also can put AZOMITE on the soil as it has 76-78 trace elements (their website has an analysis). A garden your size it would be cheaper to become a dealer and make a profit and cover the costs for you plots unless you have someone close who sells it then do a barter. I side dress my rows and put a cup in the bottom of each tomato plant mixed in with dirt with a little Epsom salts, and sterilized crushed oystershell/ pelletized for chickens a great source of calcium. If you use leaves (cheap) they disappear by spring (the color of your soil will become darker) and increase your worms in the soil you need to check your Ph. as some leaves can be slightly acid like oak, maple leaves are sweet, but they add nutrients and breaks up the clay and you have the greatest worm crop and castings after a couple seasons and plants do better in drought conditions, and with the worm holes the soil drains better. Sorry for rambling, have a nice Garden.

My earthway is great for everything except brassicas (cabbage, broccoli, etc) and seeds that size. They get caught behind the plate and crushed. Bigger seeds don't get behind the plate, and smaller seeds do sometimes get back there, but not crushed. But there's an easy fix I found for less than $10. Works like a charm. I can't include the link, but do a google search for "earthway fix" ,"farmhack" and "youngfarmers" and you'll find it.

Second year using ours, and we love it! Planted okra by hand because we soak our seeds ahead of time, but everything else went through the seeder. As you said, fast and easy. You're quite welcome. If I like something, I don't mind passing it along. ;-)

Used it a lot today. Well, I guess it depends on how you look at it: it works so quickly, I guess saying we "used it a lot" is kinda misleading. Worth every penny. BTW, be diligent looking online. I think you can get it for under $100, and maybe luck up with free shipping somewhere.

Hmm. Not sure what's happening there. Ours has worked flawlessly, though we did have to replant our corn and set it to a lower depth. Sounds to me like there is perhaps a defect in your mechanism. If you haven't had it too long, see if you can get a replacement. Sorry for your trouble, we really love ours. :-(

It is very interesting! For my small snail farm (Yes, snail farm) I have to plant a little quantity of sunflowers. Do you know if this tool can do it? I have tried to ask directly to the producer, but I have not received any answers yet. Ciao from Italy and from… Le Marche (Which is the name of the land where I live)
@AldermanFarms
@AldermanFarms 10 жыл бұрын
The company that makes them provides interchangeable seed plates that snap in and out of the planter, depending on the size of the seeds you are planting. Even if they don't make a plate specifically for sunflower seeds, you could always use a plate designed for a vegetable with seeds of a similar size. Thanks so much for writing all the way from Italy! ;-)

Got one of these from my parents, was really excited about it. Now, remember I got this for free...and it was not worth it!! Absolutely the worst seeder I've ever seen. Does not plant seed well at all. I've tried beans, corn, and peas. It didn't work worth a darn. The only thing I use if for now is to make the trench and space the rows. I seed the old fashioned way. I'm interested in trying the high wheel seeder after reading some of the comments

That's interesting, Mike. Our experience has been different: we've been pleased, and use it every year. We bought ours, and for the record, our review was offered just because we like it - we were paid nothing, nor were we asked to do it by anyone. If you have the time and inclination, I'd be interested in knowing more specifically the problems you experienced.

And men should wear boots. Lace-up boots, and they should be laced right up! And if you're too lazy to tie them up properly, you're too lazy to work in the garden.
