I would probably cut the 8.5 square so I had 1.5 strips left over for another project as well. But I thought the scraps in a jar was a cute idea.

@@robertaarrowsmith2860 I'm with you on the cutting!! I did a project from Gudrun Erla's KZfaq that used up leftover Honey Bun strips so having these 1.5" left would work great. Or as @Shelly Richards said above-use them for crumb blocks-which I've been on a roll making :)

I was gifted a huge box of 80’s era poly pillow stuffing. I’ve been chopping up my tiny scraps of batting and fabric with my rotary cutter and adding those crumbs to my free pillow stuffing. No one knows but me what’s in those pet beds and pet toys and it keeps it from going in the trash.

Sometimes I pin, and sometimes I don’t. If I am matching seams or trying not to cut off tips (like in flying geese), then I pin. I also tend to pin when I add borders so I don’t stretch the fabric. If I am just straight stitching squares, strips or rectangles together, I don’t pin. Cute pattern. Thank you so much for providing so many free patterns and videos!

I almost never pin and almost all my points are perfect. I'd probably use a jelly roll instead of a charm pack. Sew 4 half-lengths together, then subcut into 2.5" lengths. Once you have several variations done, use 4 different subcuts to create the block.

Cost wise the Mini Charm packs are better choice plus using a jelly roll involves more cutting. I think Kimberly is making this a quick and easy quilt.
@shellyrichards7455
@shellyrichards7455 3 жыл бұрын
Actually when you figure cost per yard, mini charms are more expensive. Yes there's a bit more cutting, but the sewing is much quicker, plus then you wouldn't need to cut down layer cakes into mini charms. I guess it depends on what you prefer to do. I know it would be much faster for me with the jelly roll method. Even cutting 2.5" strips from a layer cake and sewing sets would be faster for me than a huge mess of mini charms. If you're planning a quilt larger than this lap quilt, the impact would be even greater. By no means am I saying this was a wrong method, merely stating there is an alternate method some may wish to consider.
@faydixon5955
@faydixon5955 3 жыл бұрын
@@shellyrichards7455 I was talking about the overall price. Four Mini Charms are a lot cheaper than a jelly roll. But we each do it how we choose. Kimberly's goal is to give us projects that are quick and not very expensive.
