This style of quilting is a great way to quilt on your own. It’s the way I learned. It’s fun watching you do it. I swear I could feel the fabric.

You're right, Andi! Straight lines are generally quite manageable for most. Otherwise nice wavy lines are incredibly forgiving. 🤣 Thanks for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Your quilt is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for sharing. You’ve inspired me to try both the potato chip pattern as the diamond quilting. Like you, I’ve always ended up with squares. Will try 60 degrees plus 30 degrees.

Your reversible quilt is beautiful. Did both sides of your quilt come out even? Yes, it is a bummer when your machine acts up while quilting. Sewing through so many layers of fabric is hard on any sewing machine. The last time I did a lot of machine quilting, both of my Kenmore sewing machines acted up (the bobbin area fell out of one of them, and the foot control kept getting stuck in a running position on the other). I ended up finishing the quilting on my Singer 301 antique sewing machine. The more modern machines just don't hold up as well. I need to take at least five of my sewing machines in for servicing. Two of them also need repairs. Two other sewing machines need to be given away; because, I just don't like to use them. The Potato Chip method is a good addiction; because, it will not hurt your health and you get to have a lot of fun while making beautiful quilts.

Yes, Arvetta, miraculously they did match up! I was very fussy with my spray basting and basted the edges well so nothing would move while I was quilting it. I've been down to one machine for the last 20 years and this baby has been a champ. It's the electronics that are being weird. While I'm just sitting at my machine it starts to sew on it's own. Then it stops for awhile. Then it goes again! So crazy. Hopefully they can get it fixed. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

I do the same with ironing board on my left. I have trouble with quilt hanging and dragging on my right. I put quilt on my lap and pulling it up on my chest but still falls and drags. Any suggestions. Don't have another ironing board or table.

Thanks for the great video! You always provide great ideas and tips and tricks😀 One question though about diamond quilting….when you used the 60 degree angle, you spaced your lines 2 inches apart When you went the other direction using the 30 degree angle, how far apart did you space your lines? It looked like 2.5 inches but wasn’t sure Thanks for your help
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 25 күн бұрын
It should have been 2.5-inch in both directions, Marcia. I checked the quilt and I'm pretty sure that was the distance in both directions unless I was off on one row of stitching. It certainly can happen! Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Got any tips or tricks for how to get the two sides of the quilt to line up when you are basting them together with the batting.
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 26 күн бұрын
Tricky, Kathryn! First I made sure they were the same size. When I placed the backing down on the floor, I taped it well to keep taut and it in place. I placed the batting starting in one corner, keeping it just an inch from the edge in both directions. That way I could see where to line up the quilt top. As I laid the top I checked that it aligned with with the backing every few inches. With just an inch of batting it was easy to check. With those two sides in place I also checked the others and they needed a bit of adjustment but not much. Once the top was in place, I lifted it in sections and spray basted it making sure the adhesive was especially heavy around the edges. So far with the quilting I've done everything has stayed in place. Just take your time as you lay each layer. I thought about hand basting the edges together but decided the adhesive would do the trick. Pins may also be a good option, too. Help this helps! Thanks for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Where do you start sewing on the quilt at sides, middle? I've only quilted by hand not on a machine and I want to try it.

This quilting was done from side to side beginning down the center, Stephanie. Then I work towards the edge, turn the quilt, and sew the other half. Free motion quilting usually begins in the center and works outward in an all over pattern. Sure appreciate you watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Thank you for your video. May I ask, what weight thread do you use for your quilting. And is it cotton? Thank you. 💗
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 26 күн бұрын
Yes, I most always use cotton thread, Evelyn. Quilting thread is usually 40wt though I know many quilters use a 50wt. I just haven't tried it yet and I'm sure it'll do a good job. When I'm piecing I'll use a 30wt or 40wt depending on which color works. I've also combined threads in one quilt without problem. Thanks so much for watching! Happy Quilting, Lea Louise

Who designed the potato chip block?
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise
@InspiredQuiltingbyLeaLouise 24 күн бұрын
Good question, MaryJo! Though the original name of this block is still a mystery. I've found it being taught at a quilt retreat in the 90's as a 'Lumberyard Quilt'. More recently it's been called 'Scrappy Rectangles'. The latest name began a couple years ago. Lots of quilt patterns were being published between the 1930s - 1960s but I've not had luck finding this one. I'm hoping a viewer may know the answer. Thanks so much for watching!
