Yup. This works. $7 pump from Harbor Freight works like a charm. Park at a downward angle with the car warmed up a bit. 5 minutes and got a gallon out. Super simple

If the average vehicle transmission holds 10 -12 quarts and I remove and replace 2 - 3 quarts is that really going to be enough to make a difference? If I do it say 3 times @$12 quart thats $108 just in transmission fluid.
@RANDOMFIX
@RANDOMFIX 4 ай бұрын
Yeah replacing the fluid like Evet 12 or 36 is a good idea. There is no replacing all the fluid like you as said because it’s in the line and torque converter. I think you can still get a good deal on fluid on rock auto.com I was able to score that fluid for honda at $6. I hope that helps and yes the cost can add up but it’s better than paying $2k to $4k for a new transmission. That honda in the video was my mom’s vehicle and she just sold it and it had over 200k miles and not one issue.

If you use this pump for an extractor only, do you have to clean it? Does leaving oil residue in it cause breakdown of the plastic or vinyl tubing or seals?

Nope, you don't need to clean it, my is still I perfect condition. If the tube is creating a good deal, just cut a inch off and and reinsert. I've used it all fluid so car including brake fluid.

@RANDOMFIX

It comes with only one or two tube size, use the thickest tube possible. I’ve only gotten the tube stuck one time on a Mitsubishi eclipse. I’ve used the sucking method on hundreds of time. We used that very pump at the repair show. So the chances of this happening and getting stuck is about 1/1000.

@@RANDOMFIX I plan on doing this on my 08 Accord with the k24 4-cylinder. The reservoir is really tight there doesn't seem to be much room at all, I hope it's similar to the Honda in your video.
@RANDOMFIX
@RANDOMFIX 3 ай бұрын
Awesome keep me posted, the time I got the tube stuck was on an oil change never had any issue on a transmission. Make sure the unit is empty when you start as it can help determine how much fluid you sucked out. I normally stop 3 quarts and add in exactly 3 quarts. After 10k or 20k I will do another 3 quarts. Make sure you use the right fluid, rockauto.com will give you really good data on which fluid to use and will let you know who the oe fluid provider for honda and then you can buy that fluid instead of having to buy it from honda as it will much cheaper for the exact fluid. Good luck 🍀

@@RANDOMFIX will do I'll let you know, the drain plug on my trans case is seized I've had 2 shops look at it. The recommendation is to just leave it be due to risk of cracking the case with added pressure. The only way I can change the trans fluid is the way you recommended. I plan on doing it this week, appreciate your help!

Thanks for the quick response! Something happened where transmission fluid got mixed in with the coolant and vice versa. Took to a trusted mechanic, he replaced the radiator put new coolant and took out as much of the water out of the transmission fluid as he could. He said there was a little bit of water remaining that he didn't have the tools to get out. He recommended to do a transmission fluid exchange and thats how I ended here at your video!

@@RANDOMFIX You would have to take the car for a test drive in order to go through the gears. I'm curious however if your car has manual gear paddles, like my Lincoln does, if you could keep the car in drive with the brake pressed and manually go through the gears with the paddles while stationary.

The advantage of a thorough Transmission FLUSH, is that it will extract 100% of the old fluid, INCLUDING the fluid that's in the Torque Converter, which will be left behind with the typical "drain" Thus my question is, "Will this method remove 100% of the old fluid, or will it also leave behind the old fluid in the Torque Converter? Thanks!!

Better to have almost all new fluid than never doing it like most folks! Or worse, paying a fortune at the dealer or for a hack job at the quick lube. Do this alongside an oil change a few times, and you're good.
