Try using brake cleaner instead of simple green. I find SG leaves a residue. While Acetone is also a good cleaner, brake cleaner seems to give a better result.

This is an excellent demo! Clear steps, some failures that are artistic and provide more learning, good visuals, clear audio, and no music - thank you god for that! Very clearly shown! I am not familiar with this process at all, but I understood it clearly. I'm going to try this out. I want to anodize jewelry wire to add color as I cannot find the shades I want and besides, this is pure fun! Many thanks!! ❣❣

Very interesting home brew anodizing video, thank you. Look at the battery connections at time stamp 1:35. It looks like the negative plate is touching the upper round bar. I'm guessing you noticed that (maybe the charger was pegging) because later in the video they're farther apart. I like the safety aspect for you and the part (gloves and explanation why). I've watched auto body videos where they rub their bare hands all over the part they're going to paint without cleaning! Thank you again, simple and easy to do.

oh wow, had no idea that anodizing aluminum was that easy! one suggestion about the tip of it not getting dyed... it could be because the electricity always wanting to take the shortest path.... so if you suspended it in the acid with wire holding up each end - so that it's laying sideways in the acid - that MIGHT get it to etch it more evenly.. ALSO do you know of any type of 'resist' you could paint on the piece before you etch it in the acid??? it definitely does exist, but I don't know what it would have to be so that it doesn't come off from the acid...... So as far as which one I like... well I did REALLY like that pattern on the second one.. almost like it was sprayed with a resist or something.... BUT I have to go with the first one you show3ed us... I just LOVE that fade on the tip... you couldn't get a better fade if you tried... lol ... seems like it would be worth experimenting on to find the best way you can make a purposeful fade where you want it and how strong it is... maybe using a very slow motor to lower the piece into the acid over the whole time period its being etched... that way the area in the longest would have the darkest dye --- ONE LAST THING... do you know of a way to remove the dye after it's be anodized? I wonder if you were to put it back into the acid and etching process if that would pull it off??? and if so then you could paint some resist on top of the dyed areas you want to keep and then etch it again then dye it with another color.... then you remove the resist and it's the original color underneath surrounded by the second color.... dang this seems like so much fun to experiment with!! LOL THANK YOU!!! I'll prolly start playing around with this soon enough.... thanks for bringing to my attention.. this is awesome!!!! :D

@hayatel2557
@hayatel2557 Ай бұрын
Mate you miss some steps. To get a uniform color you must add salt to your dye. The positive object should be in the middle of the negative. Negative side should be long on top and bottom so electrolysis can be 100%. Positive side should not touch the bottom. You can also do it in two steps. Once finish turn upside down and start process again before putting in dye. Don't forget salt is essential in dying process.

I'm curious if the acid-electro stage is simply to remove surface oxide? Or does ithiscreate a more uniform or specific surface texture for the dye to "stick to"? Also I wonder if you could use heated vinegar instead of battery (dilute sulfuric) acid? Something to try.

People throw away batteries from cars every day often dropped off outside car parts and service shops or recycling depot. Just pour out the acid and that is your solution to etch. Once the battery empty and dry and you have experience with tools you can cut split the top plastic from the bottom tray and the led cells are your anode to submerge to the bottom of your acid bath solution and that is what you connect your negative power supply wire to. Amazon sell the dye or fabric store even Walmart might. And distilled water Walmart cheap and only use distilled water. Aluminum wire to hook up the parts u find in home Depot home building electrical wire by the ft just ask someone must be aluminum cored wire to ask for. Good luck and don't start breaking battery open if you don't know what you doing it's acid and led both dangerous to anyone who don't know how to handle it.
