My dad took his own life when i was only 5. My dad was my world, rock and hero. This song always reminds me of much i had wished he had stayed one more day to make him realise he was so loved. To everyone out there that is struggling reach out to someone that you trust. To my dad that is now my angel in heaven that has given me the strength to carry on thank you so much for being my dad.

I'm 75 and I love East 17. This particular song never fails to bring the tears. I lost my 91 year old mum in 2021 whilst I was seriously ill I'm hospital with Covid. I missed her funeral and never got to say goodbye. I think of her when I hear this song 😢

I was doing my daughters house seeing my 3 year old granddaughter and she had the radio playing in the background when this came on and said oh dad this reminds me of you and when we were little I almost got emotional as it’s such a beautiful song 🎶 These guys should get so much more respect and recognition for all their great hit la and this one is a masterpiece ❤

When I was younger, this was me and my dad’s favourite song. Round about that time, he was suffering from schizophrenia really bad and went out to cope with the pain. Me, being at oldest 6 years old, missed him immensely during this time as my only hope of seeing him was potentially on the couch on Saturdays. One night, I was in bed crying about how much I missed him when he was out and my mum heard me. She must’ve called him to come over as the next thing I heard was him playing this song over my bed as we cuddled for a bit. I still remember that, even though I’m 12 now and things are much better. He still struggles with schizophrenia, but I see him everyday

As I was leaving my wife in the hospice I turned back and she gave me a beautiful smile. The next time I saw her in the early hours of the morning she left me. She knew she was going when she smiled at me. It was her way of saying goodbye. At peace after all the pain.

listening to this song December 2023 and it reminds me when I lost my daughter in 2018. I lost her due to a bridge incident on February 21st where she had decided to end her life and had chosen to jump of the bridge and an oncoming vehicle had hit her. she had been flown to the hospital and by the time they got there she passed 10 mins later. There was so much going on and I am left in tears every year listening to this song as it brings back so many memories.

This song has literally saved my life many times and continues to do so. I imagine it is my young daughter singing to me and telling me not to go because she still needs me. The lines, 'I thought I heard you say you love me, that your love was going to be here to stay,' and especially, 'I've only just begun to know you, all I can say is won't you stay just one more day'. So, I do. I do stay just one more day.

My older sister died the day this song reached the top of the charts.... I remember looking at her in the morgue holding her cold hand and whispering the chorus to her over and over again. Strange that I felt more close to her at THAT moment than I probably did for my whole life. Miss you ❤️

Tony Mortimer (the tall one in the group) wrote this, and was very reluctant to have it released as a Christmas song as he wrote it about and for his brother who committed suicide. It really changes the meaning when listening to it with this in mind.

Yes, it reflects his state of mind expressed through this sad and melancholic song. There is both hope and sorrow and emotional charge. It is written from the heart and soul and with a lot of feelings. That is why it is beautiful and will remain forever. Pity for his brother. May he rest in peace!😢😢

I loved this song back in December 2020. The song especially reminds me of the good time i had with my brother on that Christmas day. I remember reading all the sad comments about lost loved ones. Little did i expect that my brother would die a few weeks ago and now this song continues to remind me of Christmas with him. I think he was the only one in our family to find happiness at Christmas time.

Great song... When this came out in 1994 I was 14 and my cousin (also my childhood best friend, mentor and big brother figure) had passed away earlier that year from Cystic Fibrosis, heartbreakingly just short of his 18th birthday. Could totally relate to the pain and the themes of loss and grief in the song, as I faced my first Christmas without the biggest, most influential figure from my childhood. Was so glad this held on for the #1 slot at Christmas that year! RIP Simon - 25 years on, and you're never forgotten... Sleep tight, cuz!

I was listening to this, this evening and something told me to read the comments and now I can see why. I’ve been debilitated by grief since my Mum died unexpectedly at age 59 in 2014 and I remember when this was around and we both loved it. Whenever I hear it, I just want to cry because I wish it was that time again and she was still with me because I’m never going to be the same person without her. I remember saying in her eulogy that I fail to see the point of me, without her… and that will always the the case. 💔 my heart goes out to anyone experiencing grief right now.
