Caltrans finished the I-80 paving project in Hercules three months ago, but several sections of the freeway still don't have any painted lines. It's a cause of concern for Hercules Mayor Dan Romero, who says drivers can't see the lanes and multiple accidents have happened due to improper turning. abc7ne.ws/3NVjCV0

High cost of living in the Bay Area, and we get this? With the amount of taxes and fees that we are paying, I expect infrastructures to be like Singapore, Japan, or Dubai.

I see this all over the Bay Area... also faded white lines on grey colored concrete being used rather than 'blacktop'. These white painted lines just disappear into the light colored roadway and are barely visible. So, so dangerous.

That repaving project was botched from the beginning. The cement laid down on the freeway near that area has crooked seams that grab at your tires and make it difficult to drive in a straight line. Some huge holes in the #3 and #4 lanes between the Hercules exit and Appian way were never filled, so drivers still have to veer over to the right to avoid them. Some of the older painted lines that still exist on the freeway are so worn out that they're nearly invisible at night. Other lanes have newly laid asphalt that's so thin they're already starting to buckle.

So dangerous, and it's not the first time. Once was driving in Redwood city, and they had not only scraped away all the lane paint, they had shut off all the power to the street lights along that road.....so dangerous.

'Continuously reinforced concrete' must be a new technique in concrete paving? I haven't seen reinforcement of any kind used in paving for many decades. I noticed they do not place dowel baskets at the sawcut joints, either. They must install some sort of periodic relief joints for expansion on hot days? Or does the reinforcing steel prevent the blowups by expanding as a continuous unit? Interesting.

CRCP has been used for decades and you likely drive on it everytime you're on the freeway without realizing. there arent any joints because that's the point of continuously reinforced concrete pavement, the continuous reinforcement controls the expansion and contraction. you're right that the reinforcing steel reduces blowups due to the pavement expanding and contracting as a unit

They also made that whole stretch of 80 bumpy AF. No lines, all for a few potholes, which aren't nearly as damaging as an uneven roadway. How about making it smooth, every other state can figure out how to make a smooth highway.

I guess this type of thing is widespread! I remember years ago a friend and I were wrapping up a Conference on Friday down in Nashville We made the mistake of trying to leave around 5pm! It took us 2 hours to get out of Metro 🚇 Nashville! We should have just hung out at the Hotel or gone to Green Hills and had dinner 😋🍽️ at the Cheesecake factory! BTW Nashville is the State Capitol of Tennessee! Your State Government at work! Right?
