East Carmel Indiana vs. West Carmel Indiana | Is There A Difference? You bet there is. It's a difficult thing to research online but in person you can certainly see and feel the difference. In this video I'll discuss what you might see when comparing the east side of Carmel Indiana versus the west side. One thing to keep in mind though is that it's difficult to find a rough place in Carmel Indiana! It's a different story for Indianapolis. There are plenty of nice, safe neighborhoods in Indianapolis along with some unsafe, very rough places. Carmel though, is extremely nice and very safe throughout. We are just highlighting the differences you'll find between the east and west sides. Carmel Indiana is bigger than what most people think so living on the east side compared to the west side could make a big impact on your day to day with the things that you need to be close to... like work, school, or shopping. Let me know if you have specific questions about east or west Carmel and how it might affect you!

Jason, I’m sitting in Bar Louie in Carmel right now because of you! Came out from California to conduct my own investigation and I’ve discovered you’re right. I love the north Indy suburbs. If I end up taking the plunge, I’ll reach out. Peace from NorCal (Carmel until Monday). ;-)

It looks like you were standing in Northwood Hills neighborhood while filming this. I grew up in that neighborhood. Your video was well done. But those homes were built in the 60s and only a few built in the 70s. It is a well-established neighborhood. We moved to that neighborhood in 1969 and there were only a few lots left. The neighborhood in the 70s was flanked by white river, a farm and a gravel pit but I understand the housing development took over the farm and the gravel pit is now a park. Not bad neighbors after all but one of my good friend’s family ran the farm. It was the most beautiful area to grow up in being surrounded by nature, and of course, having access to class A schools! When we moved that area from Indianapolis in 1969, there were only 27,000 people living there and now I understand there’s over 100,000 people there. But growth is expected within a 50 year period. Again I will say what a great place to grow up!

Husband and I have lived in Carmel since late 2013. Started out just outside of Main, then on the Center Green and finally in WestClay. While a small part of me misses living in the bustle, I appreciate the quiet and beauty of my area. It's still just a bike ride to Main if we want. Also convenient for living. We're about a 10 minute drive from anything you could ever want in any direction. I love Carmel. Took a lot of flack from family, and still do, but others have come around.

Carmel is a great place! Sounds like you've experience a good portion of the city. You're right about being 10 minutes or so from anything you might need.

I was raised in Home Place enclave of Carmel (That hole in the map just east of the 31) and saw a lot of the more recent growth, starting around the early 2010s. A lot of urbanization has happened, and Carmel just keeps growing. The area I was raised in was a little lower income, more working class in comparison to the rest of the city (off of College ave), so it's always been annoying being associated with the stigma of Carmel High Life.

Roundabouts are a mixed bag. If the traffic is symmetric, they are generally good. Definitely better than stop signs for high traffic. But at times such as rush hour, if there is a massive stream of cars coming in one direction, it can significantly back up the direction to the right which must always yield. Each car may have to watch 30 or 40 cars pass before one turns right and lets just one in. And if a cautious person is in front, it can be far worse.

Jason, as Usual I always enjoy your videos. They are professionally done. One thing though, why don't you talk to or interview some local residences for a first hand experience?

I live in San Diego and seeing this makes me really want to move to there! California sucks now with extreme high taxes and properties that are just insane expensive! I almost landed a job at Eli Lilly during the summer. Every day, I wished I had landed the job and move out there! Indianapolis, definitely a dream area to live for me. Thanks for the videos

To me, east Carmel reminds me more of the East coast more trees and the river west has more like a midwest prairie feel the west also feels a lot more wealthy

We live off of 131st and Shelbourne (west Carmel). I have to drive my son to the high school every day (he has to be there one hour early for band) and it takes 15 minutes with little to no traffic. Now...dismissal procedures have recently changed and it now takes 30-35 min to get back to the west side from the hs, when it used to take 20.

I live in SW Carmel (Clay). This side definitely is a bit less conservative than East Carmel. This side has elected democratic council members regularly recently, unlike the rest of the city. Pity we couldn't elect Miles Mayor (sigh). A lot of younger families on this side of town and some more affordable homes. I would say there is generally more diversity on the west side of the city, but that's just a gut feeling. In my neighborhood anyway there is quite a bit of diversity anyway, more than I've seen in other communities. As you move north from here though the homes get very expensive. Some downside being on this side of town; if you need to go to the Carmel post office (yes a city of over 100,000 only has one post office) and all government things are WAY over in the west side of the county. Only one High school so your kids have a bit of a journey in the morning. Not as many restaurants. No dog parks near us. We actually go to the Zionsville Market rather than the Carmel market on Saturday mornings. But we have great parks, West and Coxhall and soon to have another. Shopping is fine on this side along Michigan Road (Target/Home Depot/ Krogers/ etc)

Hey Jason, My family is considering relocating to Carmel, IN from Las Vegas, NV. One of the reasons why we really want to move out of Vegas is because there is no sense of community here and a lot of people come from all over the world, use Vegas to make a quick dollar and then move out. Whenever we tell people that we are moving to Indy, they tell us that it’s too cold there lol Is it really that cold in Carmel and are the people friendly and “accepting” of different races/cultures?
@LivingInIndianapolis
@LivingInIndianapolis 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Cyndi. Ha! Yes... it will be colder in the winter but we in the midwest are used to it. In fact, many like at least SOME cold weather. It's a nice change of pace and makes you really appreciate the spring, summer, and fall. I'd also say most people are pretty friendly in the midwest and accepting. But, you always have some ignorant people in just about every place across the country. I'd like to think there are fewer here but I can't say that for sure.

Eastside is older, older families who have been there for decades (like mine), older homes / westside is newer, bigger more expensive newer homes, younger families who just moved in recently. Meridian is the dividing line. I'm originally from the east side
