Great to ride on that train.I well remember the Bury To Bolton line that ran through Knowsley Street back in the late 60's. Happy days of the smell of steam trains and getting a platform ticket to watch the engines come and go.Happy memories

4.49 spot the bad neighbour - a somewhat dangerous looking overhanging pile of scrap metal bending over the security fence and looking like ti might fall onto railway property.

Does the ELR still connect to Manchester (the main national network)?
@desperatemohammedantheworl58333 жыл бұрын
It connects to the Manchester Metrolink tram network (and as such the national rail network at Manchester Victoria) just south west of Bolton Street Station but I presume despite it being full BR loading gauge most trains are too heavy and/or can't cope with the gradients to use this line, meaning there's no doubt a full railway link elsewhere.

Only at Castleton now. The connection south of the sidings at Bury was disconnected when Metrolink opened.

@@railfreightdrivergallagherGBRf The track is still connected I think but it is not available to be used.

@@TheBrickGuy7939 Was chopped last time was there last year. Even if it was intact, it couldn't be used now as access onto Metrolink for none Trams is prohibited. Will be nice when the ELR get to use a platform at Castleton eventually.

@@railfreightdrivergallagherGBRf Yeah there were plans a few years ago to extend it.

Meant to be 25mph (officially)as with all preserved lines, but the class 14s max is 45mph,as can be seen! 😉

@@railfreightdrivergallagherGBRf class 14s cracking short trip locos, never saw their full potential really back in the day, but they sound fabulous too.👌👍
