LYRICS (from KZfaq page descrption):
[English translation] Translated by Wakazaemon
Falling tears was the trigger.
I knew I was drowning.
I don’t wanna hear any excuses.
Start moving if you want to change something.
Tied up with rusted chain
Why are you holding as if you are protecting and for whom??
Change sadness to a driving force.
Go and unleash it right now.
Remove the limits.
Melody spreading their wings to a new world.
Can’t stop anymore.
Just follow your voice and smash into the future.
Don’t need to fit in any shapes.
(I will break the mold)
Love this spirit.
Imitations created by this patient world.
Showing off and laughing and who do you think you are?
Leave me alone I’m born to be free.
Shine as much as we get stronger.
Take off your worn out armor.
Break through f×cking rules and normality right now.
Heart beating fast.
Sign the reasons to live in our mind again and again.
I won’t play myself anymore.
Just the way I trust.
Become one and only.
If it’s unprecedented just set a precedent.
(I will break the mold)
Be the light in darkness.
Break! Break! Break!
Break the mold!
I can hear the melody dancing on the score.
Listen to the voice inside
Don’t let them stop you
Remove the limits.
Melody spreading their wings to a new world.
Can’t stop anymore.
Just follow your voice and smash into the future.
Don’t need to fit in any shapes.
(I will break the mold)
Love this spirit.
If it’s unprecedented just set a precedent.
(I will break the mold)
Be the light in darkness.

What a great band. Every member is a top notch musician. That "conversation" between the guitar and violin was just epic! And can we talk about the bass player - she ran a marathon in that one song. She was like the energizer bunny. Just so good. Thanks guys! Yet another band from Japan that I need to start following!

Love this song. This is a super group for sure! They all are well known and respected artists. The guitarist is Yuki of D-Drive, a great instrumental band. Mr, Rat Boots is one of my favorite with their former bass player.

This is a really new band as they were only announced on Aug. 7th. As others have mentioned this group has some star power behind them. Ayasa (violin) is the band leader and producer. Ayasa is fairly famous since she is also in the Bandori band, Morfonica, and you can find her vending machines throughout Japan. Yuki, guitar, if from one of my favorite bands, D_Drive. The bass player is Wakazaemon who is also Marty Friednman's current bass player. The drummer is Mizuki is also in Lonesome Blue. The vocalist is a former idol singer. Not shown, but the music was written by Mao who is kinda like the sixth member of Lovebites. He writes music for Lonesome Blue and many of the Lovebites songs with Asami. Mao came from the band Lightbringer and was bandmates with Fuki from Unlucky Morpheus. This group's first concert is going to be held at Zepp DiverCity Tokyo in October. They just announced yesterday that the show is sold out. For context, the Zepp venues are the venues that big bands like Lovebites, Bandmaid, Nemophila play in.

They are a new brilliant band and I love the way that the Bass player moves around. By the way , There was many Japanese all girl Hard Rock/Metal bands in Japan going around in the 80's but we didn't have KZfaq those days so it was difficult knowing about the bands those days but because I've been to Japan many times back in the 80's and 90's I know that there was many.

The descriptor supergroup gets thrown around a lot but many times is not really deserved. In the case of East of Eden, they truly are a supergroup and I hope they stay together a long while. When I first saw this music video, I immediately felt this band had world class talent and , more importantly, the "it" factor. I had the same feeling the first time I saw Band-Maid and Nemophila.

The talent pool in Japan is truly incomprehensible. Ayasa basically threw this band together by calling a bunch of her friends to say "let's jam". This is a side project for most of them. WTF? I'd certainly pay good money to see them do a concert.

Learning to play an instrument is very common among Japanese girls and middle class families. In the schools there are often working communities. The boys often go to sports and the girls play music. Many start with classical, but then switch to popular like pop and rock and metal. It is also a way of breaking out of the strict Japanese social rules for girls/women. Like cross dress and other styles of clothing. And a Japanese musician goes on stage when he is sure that he can do it 101%.

Found this band by the YT algorithm! Something interesting to me, the Wakazaemon bassist plays left-handed. Japan has a very conformity driven. The fact she's playing left-handed intrigues me. What I mean by conformity - some Japanese people have brown hair, there are schools that make them dye their hair black to conform. Ayasa, violinist, producer, leader started her violin lessons at 3yo. So it's not just the piano. Most of the female band were inspired by the all female band Show Ya, formed in the early 1980's. Still together! Have you read Marty Friedman's JRock interview yet? It will answer a lot of your questions on Japanese music culture.

Tip of the iceberg? I think it's time for you guys to see "the list". This will take two comments because it's too long for one. Japan has had an active all-girl metal scene since at least 1981. This is a starter list of all-female (or in eight cases, mixed gender) metal, punk, hard-rock and post-rock bands, with founding dates where I know them. It's alphabetical, except for the first three, which are at the top of the list for historical reasons. They set the table for the explosion of Japanese female hard-rock, punk and metal bands. Note: I have tried to pick clips that are high quality and are representative of the band's style. If you put the question out there, you are likely to get suggestions mainly for Band-Maid, Babymetal, Lovebites, Nemophila, Unlucky Morpheus and Wagakki Band. You can’t go wrong with any of those, but find time to check out more of the bands on this list. They are all worth the time and deserve the love, and many will really surprise you. My personal favorites include Asterism, Bridear, Doll$Boxx, existTtrace, Hagane, Hanabie, Mary’s Blood, Sokoninaru and Tricot. Ok, the list: Show-Ya (1981 The original female J-metal band, founded before Metallica-this is from their 24th (!) anniversary concert-and they are still touring) They have a strong Deep Purple vibe, and in my view they belong in any rock or music hall of fame: “I am the Storm” kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pbCPaKqnmNyqmoU.html Shonen Knife (1981 The world’s first bubblegum punk band. They have done several world tours, and opened for Nirvana, who were big fans. They also perform as a Ramones tribute band called Osaka Ramones): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rZ98iM-K37XNh6c.html Destrose (2005; This band was never stable, but has become almost mythic in metal history, because so many great bands spun out of Destrose, including Lovebites--you will recognize the drummer and bassist.) Here are two clips-a lot of them get taken down so please let me know if either of these is dead: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gNaprbmdtbCnYps.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m5Nze5B3sbmWm4E.html (This cuts off just after Narumi’s guitar solo-but they didn’t cut that, and it’s gorgeous.) Aldious (2008 Glamorous and kick-ass rockers-one of the first generation all-girl metal bands, along with Destrose) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qcybfbdh19jFXWw.html Asterism (2013 Not all female, but will melt your face off- the guitarist Haruka Noma is off the charts talented and just turned 20) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/f8yogMxhp96YqGQ.html Babymetal (2010 The flagship “Kawaii metal” band and the most well-known Japanese metal act outside of Japan. Combining “Kawaii” (cute) Japanese pop tropes over thunderous heavy metal backing) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbFjgbCLpruvd6s.html Band-Maid (2013 OK, there are 160+ great songs by them. Easily the best known band on this list other than Babymetal, they are more hard rock and prog than metal. Just did a 14 city US tour in 2022 that sold out 48 hours after being listed, and are doing a 2023 global10th anniversary tour) Here is a live clip: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fK6gqKiisqfHdJs.html Bridear (2011 Heavy, technical-and their tiny bassist also growls): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grd5d9Smya3DdIU.html Cyntia (2011 Second wave, hard, heavy, but with prog and symphonic touches) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fNSYgsWZms_DY4k.html D-Drive (2009 Instrumental progressive metal and fusion; Mixed gender. Extraordinary, technical dual lead guitars featuring Yuki and Seiji) Here is a lockdown version of their 2009 hit “Cassis Orange”: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g89grM6D28CVfHU.html Disqualia (2015 Destrose spin-out, featuring Narumi, one of the best guitarists of this generation, and Hazuki, then an up-and-coming talent who is now a member of Nemophila) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y7NlraV817qugps.html Doll$Boxx (2012 Wild mix of metal, electropop, and god-knows what else; a collaboration between Fuki and Gacharic Spin) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o9tirZeGy5-4l5c.html East of Eden (2023 Supergroup assembled by Ayasa, the fabulous violinist whose day job is with Morphonica, one of the BangDream projects. Guitar: Yuki from D-Drive; Drums: Mizuki from Lonesome Blue; Bass: Wakazaemon, from Marty Friedman’s band; Vocals: Minato Akane, from Predia) “Evolve” kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nbJierSIzbDFfoU.html existTtrace (2003: Visual Kei, progressive, technical, some death-metal and goth touches) They have kept their original lineup intact for 20 years and counting. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/heBhf9lpva2mdmQ.html Fate Gear (2015 Super-group, one of the Destrose spinouts-continually changing lineup built around Mina (g) and (until very recently) Erica (b); I consider this video one of the best on this list): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qrKBldagsLeyXWQ.html Gacharic Spin (2009 Founded by two high school classmates, Hana (Dr, Vo, multiple instruments) and Koga (B) who had already been in other bands (and was previously a lingerie model). Everything from punk-pop to heavy metal and progressive; highly technical) Here is their first video, with original singer Armmy (d. 2015): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rMyqfNdjlcXciJs.html Gallhammer (2003 Black/Death/Doom/Punk; this is from their 2007 UK/Europe tour; co-founder Vivien Slaughter is now making electronic ambient music!): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/aMyEnNyAtJfSink.html Galmet (2006 Straight-up death metal, but in prom dresses) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/htSmpbJ9yrjYXX0.html Ganglion (2010 Metal with a hint of electronica): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p5-aZ9dkstmRg5s.html Hagane (2018 Started with Sakura posting blistering metal guitar covers on youtube while in high-school, and the rest of the girls finding her; full lineup came together in 2019. (note: sadly, the group just disbanded in early 2023) Here, Sakura does a magical solo using a Phrygian scale at warp speed: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oZ5-h7V7xN-4qI0.html Hanabie (2019 Kawaii death metal, deathcore, thrash. Technical. Most frequent comment is “That’s nuts.” One of the bands to watch over the next few years, they are playing three North American festivals in 2023.) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fZdorNyntanNhIE.html Kakumei (2013--see Trident, below) Lisa-X Band (Prodigy 16-year-old guitarist Lisa-X and a rotating cast of fellow bandmembers, often including Hazuki (of Disqualia and Nemophila). kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7SPoq-iudHFZoE.html Lonesome Blue (2021 Progressive rock, pop-metal fusion. This was Narumi’s (see below) long-awaited new band; unfortunately it looks like they have disbanded after only one album.) This song is a wild fusion of classic Disco with Metal: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l6uUrKh207O4qWw.html Lovebites (2016 Modern Power, Speed, Thrash and Heavy Metal. Already making a global splash, melodic but face-meltingly technical. Here is their most famous official MV-it’s even better than Shadowmaker IMO) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nrJ2mM96npm6m4E.html Mardelas (2014 Another spin-off from Destrose; mixed male/female; leader Marina Hebiishi has one of the best voices in the biz) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jcpog5qoudS7eqc.html Mary's Blood (2008 The first major Destrose spin-out; Jedi-level lineup.) Here, Saki murders her guitar without breaking any nails: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g7J9Zdifu5bPp4k.html Maximum the Hormone (1998 Crazy, chaotic mashups of deathcore, nu-metal, pop and high-speed rapping. Co-founder Nao (drums) is the female member of the band. She has been a major influence on female drummers throughout Japan.) This clip captures just a bit of the madness: 予襲復讐 (Yoshu Fukushu) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mMt-aMihmrPWlI0.html MergingMoon (2010 Mix of prog and melodic death metal. Vocalist U is Japan’s terrifying answer to Tatiana of Jinjer) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qa98YNmYrbSzpWQ.html Mutant Monster (2008 Punk-pop, really good at it) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fMpmrNB-t5qUfok.html Narumi (solo prog-rock and fusion compositions-a change of pace from a master guitarist who was once the star lead for Destrose. She now has her own band, Lonesome Blue.) kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mbipdsR5z92tl58.html

To me, the impression of "rusted chains" is old crusty customs that keep people from being free and doing what is in their hearts to do. This comes up a lot in Japanese creative artists' subject matter because although there is much beauty in the culture, the socially enforced conformity can be distressing to creative minds. Small example: in school, everyone is expected to have black hair, and hair dye is prohibited. If your natural hair color is any other color, they will probably demand a statement from your doctor confirming that it is your natural biology. Watch the Gacharic Spin MV of "Mindset" and notice what Angie does. She is at school, appears to be suffering outside and dumps her school supplies on the steps. Takes her scissors and cuts her hair shorter. Next scene, she has bright pink hair and is running away. Determined, and happy. The rusted chains aren't specifically about hair, but the school hair rules are one example of the much broader struggle between freedom and conformity.
