I received a job offer requiring me to relocate to East Providence April, thank you for this video. Coming from Tampa will be a dramatic change but I’m extremely excited!

Hey Francis, exciting news! Quick note though, East Providence and East Side of Providence are actually two different neighborhoods (welcome to Rhode Island!). That being said they are right next to each other, separated only by the Seekonk River so if you're in East Providence you're literally 2 minutes away from the places in this video.

Hello Jess, thank you for your video it is very helpful. It sounds like the East Side is great for me, but I was wondering if there are any areas further north RI that would be similar? I am looking to work in Mansfield Mass (halfway btw Boston and Providence) which is unfortunately a bit too far of a commute to east side (about 40 min). Please let me know your thoughts and thank you again for the wonderful informative videos!

There is also Blackstone Boulevard and Swan Point Cemetery where H. P. Lovecraft, Rhode Island’s most famous author, is buried.

Thanks for this! That library looks like a dream! I'm curious, with all the historic houses on the east side, are they typically less insulated or more difficult to warm? Anxious West-coaster here pondering the move. Thanks again!

Hi! Great questions! It's a mixed bag for sure but a lot of the homes on the East Side have been renovated. We have a really great program in RI through a subsidy & partnership with National Grid (our electric & gas provider). They've contracted with RISE to conduct free home energy audits. If your home needs additional insulation they cover up to 75% of the cost. As an example, I own a three family on the West End that was built in the early 1900's (~1910), it's a balloon frame construction & had zero insulation. They blew in insulation in the walls, sealed the sills, & did a bunch of other work. Total cost was $13k but my cost was $3k & it made a big difference in the energy bills for my tenants. They also have rebates & zero interest loans for updating older heating systems to new, efficient ones. Great program! Oh wow! Silver Lake has some neat, old multi family properties. I especially like the ones near Roger Williams Park.

Which neighborhood(s) have vintage-style diners? I'm primarily looking to dine at 50's style diners ( when the whole covid thing is over. )

Used to hang there 20-30 years ago. Thayer Street area.

@@rfarebrother Thayer St has changed a lot. Unfortunately it's no longer mostly mom & pop shops like it used to be. Army Surplus is the latest to fall :( It's still a fun area to check out but not quite like it used to be.

@@deejs8652 Swan Point really is beautiful! Thayer St isn't quite what it used to be (used to be all local, "Mom & Pop" stores--there was a GREAT record store called "In Your Ear" that was there for a long time....now it's all corporate chains.
