A fabulous interpretation of my favourite Duke Ellington tune from 1927. Ewan and the band were serving up pure joy for a Sunday lunch gig at Jamboree in King's Cross. I was in heaven.

Bravo Ewan! Bravo Fleeting Paradise Orchestra! Bravo Jamboree Venue. You make people forget Corona and War in Oekraïne and GAZA .... at least a little bit! Every Town and every Village in the World should have a Jamboree like this.

Check out Steely Dan's recording of this: The plunger trumpet is played by wah-wah pedal electric guitar - and so extremely well!

I did check it out and Steely Dan's version is impressive. Thanks for the tip.

The trumpet is guitar+talkbox and the pep section is a lap steel guitar.

Interesting how one of the themes (played for example from 01:22 to 01:54 and from 01:55 to 02:28) sounds remarkably similar to 'I Wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate' played in E flat.

indeed it does.

Not a coincidence, the Duke, like all other jazz composers, continually plagiariezed others.
