That's how Phil started off believe it or not. He was still a hard man but he wasn't that angry and was actually quite friendly. Different writers come in and he's turned into a psychopath.

First person grant spoke to except the mecca comment turned out to be his most hated rival a few years later.

Whomever did the Casting for The Mitchell Brothers did a Fab Job. In the US there was a Casting Agent for Soaps named Betty Rea, she casted the cream of the Crop for Soaps some would make names later on in what the Yanks call Primetime and some even do Movies. On Guiding Light she hired Nia Long, Melina Kanakaredes, Calista Flockhart, Taye Diggs not to mention Superstars of US Soaps most notably Michael Zaslow (1944-1997) who played Roger Thorpe on and off from 1971-1997.

I never liked him with Tiffany. I'm watching it again in re-runs and it's so toxic to the point of unwatchable. Was so blatantly obvious that she only moved in with him because Tony broke her heart, then Grant only married Tiffany for the baby's sake. He treats her so badly, even saying she'll never compare to Sharon, yet she keeps on going back to him.

@@rayoflight6505 By the time they renewed their vows I thought it became exhausting. Ross Kemp himself was very uncomfortable with the direction G/T went in. He literally threatened to leave the show when the writers planned a story arc in which Grant would rape Tiffany. You know a show has gone too far when the actors are vocally outraged and have to intervene.

Phil was a more affable character until about 1994/95. Then when he hit the sauce 1997, he turned into the Phil we know today

Phil was the calmer brother in the early years. It’s only when Grant left, that Phil became a darker character, basically Phil turned into Grant.
