Can you imagine the first episode in 1994 when the theme arrangement we all recognise as the EastEnders theme tune began playing? Especially after everyone hated the jazzy theme?

The Millenium Dome was under construction/foundation excavation at the pre-1999 intros. The little river is also gone.

My mother has been watching the show ever since i was four years old. Im now thirty and she still watches it. i watched heavily in the late nineties/mid 2000s. its so hard once you leave because so much happens during this show. i just hate how us in the US are so behind. but this program is awesome

This is USA calling. Everytime we met a British tourist in the States we'd ask for an Eastenders update (the episodes we got were at least five years old!) The reaction we'd get was usually "Oh 'Ell! Don't tell me that show that 'ere! We DON'T talk like that! Do we?!

In the first version, the river is light blue, green in later versions, and the 1999-present intros have a dark bluer river.

The 1991 to 1993 version is a slight remix of the original with some reverb added. I didn’t notice it at the time but this and the recent Drama channel repeats made it obvious compared with today’s version.

The strings in the 1991 version are more prominent. Try listening with headphones and compare 0:06 with 0:35

Eastenders went HD on 25th December 2010 and has the same title sequence as 2009 exept the titles come a bit before that it did on the SD version Note this clip is not actually in HD

the original intro looks so fake,you cant blame them for the technology back then but i just laugh when i see it.The river isnt real(obviously) they probably made a Birdview 2d version map of london and spun the camera round xD and on a side note 93 to 94...WTF

Through out these years the theme song has changed but the characters most them have come died left move on and eastenders isn’t the same how it use to be back in days

Jamal Arshad EE golden age was 1999-2002. Late 80s, 2008-2010 and late 2013- early 2015 were all good times for the show though. For the past 4 years bar a few good episodes it has been terrible. Hopefully Oates improves the show

What's the difference between the 1985-1991 opening and the 1991-1993 opening? Apart from the slight difference in picture and sound quality, they both look and sound the same to me.

The bells are what's missing. Was designed to be reminescent of a pub band /pub singalong type tube hence the real piano and collection of instruments - I think the bells are meant to represent the triangle
