Seems like you girls remember about as much as I do. My knowledge of Easter, you have Pancake day then you have to give something up for 40 days, usually sweets, then you get a Sunday dinner but it has to be lamb and get Easter eggs. My mum used to make me sit down with her and watch Jesus Christ Superstar with her and then complain when I sang along to the songs.

Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon on/after the Spring Equinox. But apparently if that full moon is on a Sunday then Easter will be the next Sunday. Jesus is a lunar witch so this makes sense.

Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox. Which is presumably somehow originally tied to the Jewish calendar being lunar based. But it's more entertaining to assume it's a stolen pagan thing in my opinion.

Easter is pretty similar to the pagan celebration on the Spring Equinox called Ostara, which also celebrates the goddess Eostre. The rabbits and eggs were originally representative of fertility. The names are suspiciously close honestly 😂

As someone who grew up in a very religious house and had the resurrection and christmas story drilled into them and wasnt allowed to question it - this is a breath of fresh air. Thank you for explaining these holidays in a fun and irreverent way, that isnt just outright snarky or disrespectful (im not religious anymore and do find many parts of it ridiculous but there is no need to be a dick for no reason 🙂) As for easter traditions, we just do the basket/egg hunt with the nieces and nephews, eat and drink to excess and watch 'the sound of music' for no particular reason.

I love that the Louisiana Purchase somehow made its way into this. Also, regarding Easter bunnies and eggs, there was allegedly a cult of Ostara of the Dawn in Germanic countries who's main festival was at Easter time and the rabbits and eggs were animals that were associated with her. How they have come down through time to us I cannot say, but they have, despite the Christians' cultural appropriation.

In regards Nova talking about how Christianity has similarities to other pagan traditions being coincidental. It is actually no coincidence at all! A religion will take aspects of a dominant religions practices and incorporate it so the new religion isn't totally foreign. Its easier to tell people "You are almost right. We use eggs to represent Jesus dying and coming back after 3 days". Once your religion takes hold, you repurpose important things into shallower, less important things and then phase them out, until you are back to your original doctrine. Its really sinister when you think about it.
