The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local Secret Santa give $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season. Every day, from now until Christmas, we will post videos of the recipients being surprised with these life-changing gifts.
Carl is a hardworking man. At age 72 he still drives a truck, four days a week. He lost his leg above the knee 37 years ago and has always worked.
In 2001, Carl's wife had her first brain aneurysm. Thankfully she was able to recover but in 2010 she passed away from a second brain aneurysm.
Carl and his wife would have been married 52 years this year.
He’s battled three rounds of Covid and his stump has recently started to hurt him to the point he can barely walk. But that doesn't matter. He goes to work every day at 2 a.m.
Carl has always been a person who looks out of others and puts the needs of others before his own. Even though he always works early in the morning and his work days are sometimes 14 hours long, there was not a time he said he was too tired to help with sports practices and he never missed a ball game.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves to pay Carl a visit and deliver some early Christmas gifts. Watch the surprise in the video player above.

"I can retire now" is one of the best reactions to any gift I've seen on here. That's one of the biggest gifts you can give to someone who has worked hard their whole life.

Me and Karel are thr same age a d I have just lost my right leg just below the knee I was going through some mental health over this and watching this guy has made my day !!!!!!!😅😅😅😅😅 This past year has been a rough !!!!? looking forward to getting my new leg so that I can get back to work If I'm not working I'm dieing !!!! I am lucky that I have my rock (wife still with me )my ANGEL without I would be lLOST I wish I could help unfortunately half my pension goes to the taxi that takes me to hospital twice a week All I can do now is too wish you all is a HAPPY CHRISTMAS and a MERRY NEW YEAR Love and best wishes from CYPRUS

The relief he felt when he saw that check and realized he could retire. So happy for him. It's so hard getting thru life as it is and when you have health issues it makes it even harder when you still can't afford to retire and take it easy, after many years of working. Bless him, Nate and his crew and most definitely, Bless Secret Santa for bring joy and love into all that receive the special gifts each year. Love watching all the videos every year. I hope Secret Santa lives forever.

Guessing here...he won't retire straight away. He'll probably slow down a bit. He's built the old school way....work until you've got 6ft of soil on top - not many of those types left. Hell I thought he was ready to hoist Nate and the crew out of his property at the beginning

When he was so overwhelmed at the gift cards I knew he would really be shocked when he saw the amount of the check. It's really wonderful to see people that work/worked hard so many years get something they really need. If only that could happen for everyone that has worked so hard that needs it.

Oh my. This one really got me. When Nate said he was an older man, a truck driver, I thought this one will be fun. And it was for about the first 4 minutes. Then Carl almost teared up and I lost it. Having just read an article where a 20 something was complaining about not having paid lunch time and having to work 8 to 5 instead of 9 to 5, I thought, she needs to watch this. Carl is 72 and goes to work at 2AM often for 14 hours! God bless you, Carl. Thank you, Secret Santa, Nate, and helper elves. Holy crap, I think this will really make a difference for Carl. 🎄🎅🤗

He put on a show of being a tough old bird but inside he is soft as butter. What a wonderful gift, Secret Santa knew just what he needed! Nate...Thank you so much for doing the Secret Santa thing every year for East Idaho News. I watch and yes, cry each year on every one I see. It's so touching and hits me so deep in my heart that this year I've decided to do the Secret Santa thing on my own channel on KZfaq. Though my own family doesn't have much and my wife is our soul supporter at home due to my own advanced diabetes, this is the time to think of others and to give so I put a clip at the end of my November 17th video announcing our plans to donate to Toys For Tots AND to adopt a less fortunate family this season. Thank you for sharing so much love and inspiration and caring. There is so little of it shown in the world today and people who love a stranger is sorely missed. God bless you all and thank you for the inspiration.

Carl is like my mom. She's 87 and retired at 86 from being a nurse for 64 year and the last 30+ as a prison nurse. I'm sure she would still be working if not for Covid. I'm sure she would be the same as Carl and pass it forward. Such a sweet man.

I kind of know what it's like losing a body part. I had a hip replacement when I was 34. It hurts a lot, but you do what you have to do to survive. I am 46 now and need to replaced again.

There's been so many sad and bad things happening everywhere, to see this wonderful man get something from Secret Santa made me break down, happy tears.
