The system in my van is very similar to yours, with extra 12v sockets and inverter running directly from the batteries. One thing that the Sargent unit is lacking is any sort of control for solar panels, again like yours mine is separately connected to the batteries via an MPPT controller. Thanks for sharing, I wasn’t aware that the vehicle battery wasn’t charging from the mains hook up unless it was selected from the control panel, luckily my solar controller has an output for the engine battery.

Thanks John. A clear and easy description of the Sargent unit. I haven’t got the van yet but can’t decide whether to go for one of these or build one of my own. There’s a couple of good home built ones on KZfaq. Also Sargent sell bigger units but these are more expensive again. I can call on a mate who’s an auto electrician for help.

Another informing video, I did contemplate one but got the chance of the separate items and went with that, plus was the cheaper option. Great video with easy to listen too info. Keep the adventures coming mate.

Hiya! I've got the EC155 fitted to my campervan and I'm needing to replace my old lead acid leisure battery, as it's dead. I know that the charger inside the EC155 will only charge lead acid, not AGM or Lithium, but I'm wanting to go with a lithium battery! The question is, how do I connect a lithium battery charger into the EC155? Any ideas or advice more than welcome please 😊

Hi...we have this system in our autotrail imala however when we connect to EHU all system shuts down, a green light flashes on the panel along with an alarm sound. Any ideas? TIA

So Im I right in thinking when the engine is running you can't feed power to the 12v fridge? When travelling through hot climates that's the one thing you do want power for.

My sargent still runs all the 12v while engine is running

Hi john on a coach built that I had it had the same system , I found a relay by the fridge that kicked in when the engine was running it kept the fridge working but isolated everything else, naturally I bypassed this and full power in the back all of the time. Maybe there is one by your fridge worth a look. 👍👍

Very helpful video, I really appreciate the effort you've gone to, in the user guide, it talks about a 240v output, I can't tell whether this means i can wire 240 plugs to it and avoid the need for an inverter, my hunch is I still need an inverter?

Hi there I have a Suzuki Swift bolero 680fb Year 2011 I have a solar connection box on top of the roof with a blue and brown wire inside it I’ve connect a solar panel to this point But I’m not getting power into my sergeant EC450 series power supply unit When I’m in advance setting Solar says 0.0 So I’ve took my Sargent box out of the cupboard and had a look behind and found the the cable coming from the solar panel is not plugged into everything on the back of the sergeant EC450 box I’ve had a good look and I can not find a place to plug the cable into Can you point me in the right direction pls thanking you John Now I’ve seen your video I’m thinking do I need different control panel as the control panel above my door dose not have led display screen on Only led light Pls pls help I’ve been out and fitted a solar thinking I can just connect it to the roof connection point. Hi john ive got the same sergeant unit not fitted it yet... how did you connect the end of your wire looms I know they each have a multi plug that connects to the main box (easy enough) but on the other ends ( the load ends ) what did you do? Did you cut off the plugs provided and use spade connectors? Or did you find a compatible connector to fit the connectors they supplied... if so what are the connectors called and where would I get them. Cheers mate Gordon

Hi I have this unit and have been using sites with hook up and everything works fine.ie lights ,battery charges. But turn off 240v supply I can't use any 12v items is this correct or not. Any help appreciated

Now with risk of sounding silly - as I have noted many times in your video that the Sargent is a SIMPLE system! However.. give me some timber and i am an expert but amps and volts.. not so much. I went with the Sargent system and in the next day or two I start wiring. I have loads of questions... I have seen your wiring guide but is there one for the Sargent? (I need help!) -wiring the sockets - the loom only has one cable. I presume thats the +. So out the back of each socket (I have Berker) where is the negative?? I understand the white and orange are the negatives.. is that for all the sockets (or outputs as it were)? - Connecting to the vehicle battery - can i just connect to the terminals or do i have to actually connect to the alternator? - On the vehicle battery loom wire, it has a fuse. Do just get my own bit or cable to plug in the other side of the fuse to connect to v battery? - I heard something about the fridge wire ( i am not using this wire for that purpose) connects to tell the system when the van is running so it shuts power off.. and charges. So does this wire need connecting up? Where? - It the manual it says double insulation over feed to fuses(??? what???) Yes.. i have a few questions! Help please!

In a fit of relief at finding something that seemed to sort everything out I got one. However, when looking about to see how to fit it they didn't seem to be well liked, particulalry as a charger. My understanding is they were designed for caravans/production motorhomes that spend a lot of time hooked up on a campsite. Not in my game plan. Anyway, consequently I have an unused one sitting in my utility room that will end upon ebay.

Hi john I have a similar van to this one and i am in the process of fitting a auto switch h-tronic in the video you have a white plug the wires for the sockets going in to the Sargent unit if I cut this plug out and route the wires to my auto switch that should work?

Why not just plug into vehicle 12v cigarette socket for power.

1 question John why did you not just alter the sergeant system to work while the engine is running just override the circuit
