Shadowsight has been one of the most interesting POV characters in years. The way his dynamic with Ashfur mirrors how an abuser manipulates his victim, even how after freeing yourself from them, you can sort of miss them… This is an absolutely beautiful video

I really connected with Shadowsight and I'm glad that's being portrayed. His relationship with Ashfur was scarily similar to that of someone that hurt me a lot when I was a kid. I'm glad more people notice it and acknowledge the heck he's been through

The ending scene, where Shadowsight is looking at the light beyond the dark cave, definitely broke me. Especially with the pomegranate and all of the cats he believed he had let down. In fact, in the books, Shadowsight believed that he should have _stayed_ in the Dark Forest, and Spiresight had to snap him out of it. Shadowsight had such an exhausting life that he believed he should’ve just stayed in literal cat hell, because of all of the cats he believed he brought down. He deserves so much more I want to hug him

I’m surprised there isn’t more broken code animated content? That arc had everything? The Supernatural, suspense, body horror, obsessive love, kidnapping, alternative worlds.

Shadowsight. After everything that’s been done to him, said to him, still cares so much about those around him. He literally walked through hell for those he cares about. It’s such a stark difference with Ashfur, who hadn’t been wronged in any way other than when he was killed. And Ashfur wasn’t even seeking revenge on his killer, he was after his ex. Someone he felt entitled to be loved by. Shadowsight never held it against those who doubted him, yelled at him, or hurt him in any way. Ashfur truly couldn’t have chosen a more opposite cat to attach himself to. And in the end, despite everything Shadowsight missed him. Ashfur tore himself away from him, just as he thought Squirrelflight did to him. I know those are vastly different but, to Ashfur maybe they’re not.

Granted, I have not read these books, but god something about 1:08 onwards just makes me feel heavy. Shadowsight looks so tired and worn away by everything that's happened to him, he almost looks hollow. The different cats looking at the camera feels like they're looking at Shadowsight, and from his view it feels like they're looking at him in either concern or just blankly, and then there's Ashfur looking at him disappointed and angry in the end. And the berry rotting away along with just the music playing...it just hits you how exhausting of a life he's lived, and it shows with his eyes in the end Also, I adore your Shadowsight and Snowtuft designs! I love the broken iris look on Snowtuft, and I've always liked the idea that Shadowsight has a bit of a lazy eye. This amv is so, so well done

Okay had to come back bc the symbolism after watching two or three times now is sooo good!! The way shadowsight goes to attack ashfur but when he looks down hes just attacking himself?? OMG?? like its the way he feels one in the same as ashfur and questions whether hes really a good cat if he helped ashfur in the past. The black, tar-like water/blood that is following shadowsight is so amazing too! Not only is it animated incredibly but the idea behind it ughh. Its pouring over him, it follows in his footsteps and it's in his blood, Shadowsight feels like the darkness is consuming him in the novel and the way you portrayed it is amazing!! The pomegranate yess!! persephones symbolism is everything and such a good choice for a character like Shadowsight who is trapped in two worlds, the living and the dark forest. He feels as though part of him will always be bad and will always carry Ashfurs darkness, yet he continues on trying to be good despite it. He feels he has a paw in both sides and the way it slowly decays certainly is to show his loss of hope and faith overtime. The stars are such cute symbolism of Starclan and his faith in them and how at the end he just no longer has any connection to Starclan at all, if it ever even was there. Plus I just adore his design at the end with the blown out pupil, the flopped ear and the scars. Hes so beaten down and tired, he looks hopeless yet he continues trying for the sake of the cats who loved him (Tiger, Dove, Root, Puddle) or gave their lives for him (Snow, Bristle, Spire, Bramble). I love the way all the cats as just non expressive to his exhausted state. I just love Shadowsight, he is the best boy. I love his thoughts, he is the best representation we've had of an abuse victim (especially since they butchered squirrelflight so badly she somehow came out the bad guy for a decade??) in ages. Its so real, hes so broken but he misses ashfur anyways. He knows ashfur hurt him and cats he loves, but he cant help but admit theres a hole in his chest after losing Ashfur and he misses the way Ash made him feel special. Hes depressed and sad at the end that he never did have a starclan connection, and its honestly such a gut wrenching story. Shadowsight has had a life full of misery and this amv just does such an incredible job of portraying that.

The fact that Shadowsight is Ashfur’s great-grandnephew too is so sad. This animation is stunning and has such a wonderful sense of atmosphere. Feels foreboding, and it’s so depressing that even with all the manipulation and shit he experienced because of Ashfur, Shadowsight still feels connected to him.

absolutely obsessed with the movement in this; the gentle sway of shadowsight's tail as he walks, the dripping of the shadows over shadowsight, the twirl of the stars, the way ashfur's all glitchy around the edges, how *sticky* the shadows look beneath shadowsight's paws UGH (i'm also in love with snowtuft's design- the ruptured globe/pupil is such a cool look for him)

Everything about this is just golden, the expressions, the different scene choices, your style agh I love your work so much, amazing job once again!!

I love the feeling it gives off. The weight of being 'Starclans choosen' like a burden, gift given to you without your consent later turned to a curse so hsavy it weights you down. Always loved Shadowsight

Okay I cannot stop watching this. The smoothness, the symbolism, how ashfur gets more "real" as we get further into the story, the decaying pomegranate. The song choice is brilliant, your style is fantastic this is just so amazing oml. Also how Shadowsight "kills" ashfur and he feels like he's also lost apart of himself is portrayed so well. The design of the darkforest to is so eerie. Mostly it's very harsh red lighting but here its a soft yellow and it's so empty, which makes it seem so creepy. Also how all prophecy sequences are in the shadow just is such a good callback to the book omg. You also showed the amount of control Ashfur has over Shadowsight so well. To Shadowsight Ashfur is someone he feels almost safe with, but there's a clear unnatural disconnect, as Ashfur isn't fully there and when he is it's when Shadowsight sees all his lies and sees what he truly is and then ashfur being glitchy like that. Like Shadowsight can see what he is, but it's really hard to see are of it clearly. Also how hesitant Shadowsight is to go back. Like everytime he thinks of a reason he should go back it comes back to the pomegranate, which he's like taken a bite of like Peresphone did and now he's stuck in the afterlife, he can't go back, he's apart of the Dark Forest, he's apart of ashfur. AND THEN AT THE END WHERE THE STAR FADES AWAY THAT'S WHEN HE LEARNS HE HAS NO CONNECTION TO STARCLAN AND IT FADES. This is such a good amv, one of the best (if not the best) amvs I have ever seen and I am just in awe at the amount of symbolism, beauty of it, the designs, the animation EVERYTHING IS SO AMAZING WHAT THE HECK.

what i really like is how you made the two scenes at 0:04 and 0:45 sort of parallel each other (not sure if it was intentional but it’s a nice detail), with ashfur in the closer view and shadowsight in the further view, and it also kind of reflects on the story, with (a younger) shadowsight seeming in a more positive state and then in a more negative state, all while facing ashfur. this amv is so good and really makes me feel bad for shadowsight :((

Every movement and expression in this is so solid and amazing!! I love the symbolism of how Shadowsight was 'drowning' in the lies Ashfur had told him, and how Shadowsight feels responsible for the hurt Ashfur brought even though Shadowsight had no way of knowing better. Shadowsight and Ashfur remind me of me and my mom. An incredibly depressing take, but Shadowsight was incredibly relatable when it came to his emotions towards Ashfur.

The way his right pupil was larger than the other, unresponsive to his other dilating is a super cool and subtle way to show how injured he was..the floppy ear and everything. The way Ashfur’s weight was literally on his shoulders and the darkness that followed Shadowsight everywhere. ugh I Love it

i will not lie to you, i cannot stop watching this amv. as in i have watched it at least once a day since you posted it (for sake of future-proofing, that's ten days as of typing this) shadowsight is very special to me on a personal level anyway, but everything about this - the acting, the simplicity, the symbolism, it just fucks me right up. the shot of shadowsight crossing the swampy waters of the dark forest and parting it like it's the red sea is SO GOOD. stuff like this really helps remind me why i love this fandom so much. the books give us a thumbtack-skeleton and we're somehow able to spin something so beautiful from it. i don't think any other fandom could. thank you for a gorgeous video, and thank you for introducing me to waveform* too!

I'll be honest, I didn't like the Broken Code. It started off good but went completly off the rails and I wasn't too satisfied with the ending. I remember that at the begining I was such a big Shadowsight fan but I slowly stopped caring after a while, mainly because of how the narrative treated him. So imagine my suprise when I watched this AMV and suddenly remembered why I loved him in the first place, to the point it made me geniuanly emotional. You potrayed his story so well, I especially love that ending. This entire AMV is a work of art

I like how the more the video progressed, the more trouble that Shadowsight seemed to get in, which showed how his life eventually became nothing more than just another prophecy that was yet to be completed, its sad, but the way you portrayed the story with little bits of symbolism like the star and the rotting pomegranate.

I love the inclusion of the pomegranate, as they have lots of symbolism. Life, death, rebirth.. knowledge, wisdom, righteousness.. fertility, beauty, eternal life, innocence and purity.. the list goes on. A rotten pomegranate can symbolize that you are making mistakes in life, and may not have the chance to grow as a person. It’s also considered a bad omen, as misfortune will befall on you.

This is SO PHENOMENAL. The crisp movements and limited frame rate work so well with the tone of the song and Shadow’s story. Your character designs are great too, I love the combo of the rotting pomegranate in between the character portraits.

Shadowsights blown out pupil and flopped ear are interesting design choices tbh! I honestly chose to interpret these as physical reminders of the trauma and wounds Ashfur inflicted on him, and the wounds he’ll always carry with him both internally and spiritually. Not sure how you meant them or if they meant anything but I think they make so much sense!!

I rarely leave comments, but I just must here, after watching this video on repeat for a dozen times. This synthesis between music and animation, slow and methodical... I loved the animation because it has supernatural things, spirits, deaths, alternative worlds, but it remains a smooth and relaxing animation to watch.

Shadow sight has arguably got to be the most depressing main protagonists in the books he loses everything he finds out that he was never meant to see star clan and most likely never will he will probably never be known as anything else to the clans outside of “the cat who helped ashfur” and now he has to sit and look at the moon pool knowing it was never meant for him

This is SO insanely breathtaking!! Each shot feels like a hard yank on the heartstrings, I adore all of your works but there’s something just so viscerally sad about this one in particular- it feels heavy and hopeless in the most beautiful way, and the weight of Shadowsight’s internal conflict and manipulative relationship with Ashfur is palpable beyond words. The end with the pomegranate is nothing short of impactful!! Stunning work, so emotional about this!!

I'm not good with using words to articulate how much i like about specific videos but I come back to watch this every few days. The animation is so good. The pomegranate?? I'm not as well read as I'd like so I asked my girlfriend what the symbolism of pomegranates were, and her first answer was the afterlife. Which just. oh the not being able to connect to starclan. Despite helping to save them, that part of his spirituality and medicine cat duties will just be forever cut.

I have a cat who had her eye clawed, and the way you depict the pupils as an aftermath of the trauma is extremely accurate.

i've watched this video like. a bajillion times, so i think i've gotta comment on it. whenever i feel the need for artistic inspiration lately (a lot these days! art college) i've come back to this video to see how far i could go. everything in this is incredible. it's so well paced, and the emotional ups and downs of shadowsight through the video are captivating. I have not read warriors in a long time, but I can still follow the themes of this video. I love when the shadows drip, due to the timing and the slow oozing way you've animated it, it's like I can feel it coldly dripping onto me as well. what particularly stands out to me is the end of the video. I love to watch it, and have shown it to my friends as well to be like Look! INCREDIBLE cat design! The way every single character shown looks like a cat but is so distinct through lineart alone makes me so happy and excited to see because its just so well done, while still feeling so stylistically consistent. the timing of the characters to the music and their expressions that i can't quite place is so striking, it really makes me uneasy (in a very very good way!) THANKS FOR THE VIDEO i like it a lot, you are a really great artist :D

Really want to thank you for making this, it single-handedly convinced me to catch up on Warriors and now TBC is one of my favorite arcs, and Shadowsight (or atleast the better written version of him in my head) is one of my faves in the whole series! With and without the context, this is a stunning animation about abuse/manipulation and guilt.

i don't know a lot about TBC, but this video just feels so... real to me ? im not sure how to describe the feeling, but from what i understand of it, i really relate to shadowsight's arc. this video invokes a beautiful sense of deep sadness. lovely work.
