EASY Beginner Knit Shawl (Detailed, how to yarn over)

A VERY easy knit shawl, great for gifting, as there’s no sizing to worry about, it’s easy to use whatever colors you want, and they’re super warm! I believe I used about 800-1,000 yards, the yarn had no labels but I think that’s about what it was. You can obviously make this as big or small as you want, and it’d be a great stash buster!

@@katieb043 I think most knitting innovations come from people who aren't afraid to keep going and figure things out! Check out Elizabeth Zimmerman, that was her whole philosophy of knitting. Yay, I’m so excited for you! I don’t remember exactly, but I think it was around two hundred rows? You can make it however big you want to. I want to be able to wrap it around my back and tie it. If I want it to start getting wider faster without getting too long do I just add increase?
@katieb043
@katieb043 Жыл бұрын
I did a small sample piece, and I think you’d actually want to increase less. Instead of doing both yarn overs in the center, you could alternate between them, (before the center stitch on the first increase row, after the center stitch on the next increase row.) That would make the center point an obtuse angle rather than a right angle, so it should get wider, faster.

Thank you for the tutorial! I was wondering though, if I wanted the cast-off edge to have the same design as the other edges would I do a row of k2, (yo, k2tog)* repeating to the spine, do the spine as normal, rep again to the last two stitches, knit the last two stitches, then knit that row twice (with the second row getting kfb on the second and second to last stitch, plus the two on either side of the spine)?

Hey Andrea! So I actually just looked into this for someone else too. :) The tie in the back shawls seem to be knitted from top to bottom, whereas mine is worked side to side. That would allow you to make it longer, and it would have more stretch that way. You can find lots of patterns if you search for outlander shawl. Hope this helps! :)

Hello! Thank you for posting this! I'm currently working on my own shawl and ordered the circular needles, but I ordered the 80cm length. Do you thing I'll be able to work the length of the shawl on such short loop? I thought it'd be enough but seems pretty small now that I transferred it. Also, I saw some shawls that you can tie by itself - the corners are elongated. I am a new knitter so I have no idea how I could achieve something like that, is there something I can do?
@katieb043
@katieb043 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! So I can’t find my tape measure right now, but I believe 80 cm should be fine. The stitches actually squish a lot more on circular needles and you can fit a lot more than you’d think. If not, it’s very easy to switch to a longer one. As far as tying it in the back, From what I can find those are knit top to bottom, where mine is side to side. So you would have to find a different pattern, but it still looks like something you could do as a beginner. I hope this helps, and good luck! 💙
