I'm a professional soap maker. A few extra tips. Use half ice and half water to make your solution the perfect temp right off the bat. Also mix your Charcoal into your oils before the lye with your stick blender and if will be quicker and easier also. One other thing is the soaping community highly discourages mixing lye in any glass container as it is more than just the heat you have to worry about. The lye can etch the glass and many soap makers have reported exploding glass containers. Especially at higher temps. Especially when being educational. Goat milk is awesome and I do a 50/50 blend. You can add poppy seeds for great exfoliation too. The other thing is no metal unless stainless steel, so soaping community highly suggests silicone spatulas and tools. The last thing is if you haven't tried to CPOP (cold process oven process) then you absolutely should! Set your oven at 170 degrees and turn it off right before you put your soap in. Leave the soap in over night. It makes the bars so hard and smooth and last much longer! It's amazing! It makes me happy to see others make soap! Great job and keep up the awesome work. Always happy to answer questions. I've made tens of thousands of bars just in the last 2yrs.

For your lye water do half water and half ice. It cools it down faster and it helps with the fumes. Lavender is an awesome one for the face also add some tea tree oil that is amazing for your face and helps with breakouts

I've used many different methods (cold process, crockpot, etc.) and my favorite is heat transfer method. I love making soap and somewhat impatient when comes to waiting for temps to range so I can stick blend. Next time you make soap, try the heat transfer method. All you do is add the hot lye water solution to the hard fats. Stir until melted then add your liquid fats. They'll cool the soap even more. Plus with stick blender until you hit trace, add your fragrance oils and your, as I call them, you mix-ins ( lavender buds, poppy seeds, etc.). I could make soap all day every day if I could. Just recently tried activated charcoal for the first time. Can't wait to try it out!

I love your soapmaking videos, I could watch them all day long. I might try to use lye, but I think reading the comments, I will take it outside as I have a very sensitive nose. Thank you for all the tips, I will search for your other soapmaking videos where you're talking about safety.

To be completely safe, you should always use separate tools. Soap making doesn’t need to be complicated, you only need a few things dedicated to the process. Thrift stores always have bowls and pots for a few dollars. Of course not everyone does this. That’s a risk they are taking, and the important thing is to make sure there is absolutely no lye remaining on anything when you are done. You should be able to buy every tool you need (including a cheap stick blender and a silicone mold) for less than 50$. Start small and buy the safety equipment first. Yes you can melt oils in any kitchen bowl, but you shouldn’t be mixing the lye into that bowl if you plan to eat out of it later.
