Thank you for explaining this very simply. Way easier to learn that way, then if you spent loads of time just talking a lot. :) I really appreciate it! I think I've always been afraid to make pie crust because the process always seemed to overwhelming to me. So happy to find your channel and your easy was of explaining how to do it.

Chris - I make a very similar pie crust. Recipe was on an old brand of shortening before your time (Spry). I will be trying your recipe !

I tried the rescipe, like the idea of pre measured , crisco and storing in freezer, time saver,, but I use a mix of crisco and butter, gd tips

I’m trying to make my late grandma’s infamous Apple pie to surprise my dad for thanksgiving. I never got to try it, as she died before I was born, and the recipe is only half scrawled on some index cards. I already messed up the crust once because it didn’t say to freeze the Crisco. But I’m determined to get it right because supposedly the crust was a really good part of the pie. Thanks for the help.

I've made like 6 pie crust so far. To use cold vodka instead of water. Kinda works

Well I just learned why mine doesn't turn out so good. I haven't been chilling my Crisco before using. Nor was I chilling my dough. Thank you!

Well I'm a male carpenter, and I just found out the exact same thing. I ruined 6 crusts tonight. Didn't chill my crisco. The dough just was way to crumbly. No gluten formed at all. I've always had good luck with lard right from the fridge. Was your crust too crumbly and not rolling out either?

Do you prefer Crisco over butter? I have heard from my husband's grandmother that Crisco is THE ONE when making pie crust.

If you use crisco to fry the pumpkin pieces to make pumpkin fries, how do you apply the crisco to the pumpkin pieces? Is it better to melt it first, or some other way? Its messy to just try to smear it onto the pieces.

Yes. See his tip at 4:49. Also, in one of my cookbooks from ATK, they say that the dough, wrapped tightly in plastic wrap, can be refrigerated for up to 2 days or frozen for up to 1 month. If frozen, let the dough thaw completely on the counter before rolling it out.

I just made this and although the dough turned out perfect when I peeled the parchment paper off it completely stuck and came apart. So disappointed but I'll try it again one day

I want to make puff pastry with shortening, instead of butter. Is this possible? If it's possible, can you share the recipe?

You can generally sub shortening for any butter recipe just follow conversion instructions on the can but it does change the flavor and texture depending on what your making. Thanks for watching the video!

Ok tried this and my pie shell feels like wet sand, not flaky but just dissolves between my fingers? So very disappointed. Any ideas, was it just not baked long enough, the color is pale to light brown I am not a professional and I'm a bachelor lol. Thank you.
